I feel fairly comfortable finding the various chords (at least in their full caged version) but I really don't think I could do so with confidence in a jam situation - partly because of the cumbersome nature of some full chords and partly because of lack of proper practice in progressions - so this is going to be a very useful exercise to work on. Gotta say, though, your videos are a really valuable addition to youtube - what took you so long?? I think what I really like most about pretty much every video you've posted so far is that you simply offer a great jump-off point - it's always immediately apparent that what you've just shown is just cracking the door open a little bit and, if you're curious enough (I love that phrase "curious guitarist") there is so much more to discover if you put in the effort - noone ever learned anything by having it all explained to the last detail. I'll definitely be setting aside part of the xmas period to really dig deeper into this. Many thanks!
Great lesson! Learning from the internets is so caged heavy, and I have heard mention of inversions, but this is the first time I really saw that caged and inversions are just pieces of the same puzzle. This vid has given me a great new way to see the fretboard!

You got a new subscriber. For years I more or less stumbled over the fretboard. Some days ago I thought "leave that lower strings alone" and ended up connecting the little triads. Why didn't I do this way earlier... I would have improved much more faster and melodical.
I come back to your lessons as I progress. It's amazing how much I missed during my first view/attempt at this lesson. More specifically, the first time I was hyperfocused on the triads themselves and now I am more interested in the general context of it all (the I IV V). Gosh I haven't felt so excited about learning guitar since I was a teenager and I'm in my Young sixties lol, an excellent follow up to your triad series and well paced. I'm processing the arpeggios and triads sessions and because now I have a better understanding I'm better able to see them mapped out clearly and has enabled me to keep up in a practical sense and also appreciate the underlying concepts that has thrown that door wide open! Hey Chris, I just watched this again and i picked up information I missed the first time. Thanks for explaining this in such an easily digestible way. Using root notes as anchors to attach information to is such a good way to learn, that’s how I learnt the caged system, using 5 different minor chord shapes with different starting root notes as my foundation, then attaching the correct minor pentatonic scale to that chord shape, I was able to quickly learn how to play in any key anywhere on the neck. I had to hear you go through the triad shapes again to pick up which shape uses which root note. Love Eddie playing that opening part to the eruption solo, such a smooth dreamy melodic phrase.🤘🏻
I appreciate how thorough you were in this video, including the exercises using the different inversions together in different ways. It really helps to ingrain not only the forms but see their different chords. The forms are one thing to learn but playing different chords and really knowing them is another. I think if you create some song tutorials based on these triads even if the main chord progressions were covered for a group of songs in one video, they would be appreciated by a lot of your subscribers. This video would be a great reference link for those videos.

I have to say that as a beginner I have avoided triads for a very long time. But this lesson absolutely did it for me. I feel the the key was the containment on just 3 strings. I had so much fun with this and I'm still having it a month after first time watching this lesson. It also helped me to unlock major scale and noodle around it. Further more it helped with mapping the neck. There is so much information to extract from this single lesson. Thank you for producing such valuable lessons!
@@curiousguitarist what resonates to me changes with my level so in this case I'm right at that stage where I'm learning to familiarize myself with the string sets and the inversion shapes and order that go with each. This lesson was just right for where I'm at. For me the best point was near the end where your went to the next higher 451, rather than the starting inversion. The next thing I need to wrap my mind around and make my own is learning the minor and diminished degrees shapes in the same position as the 145 to the point that it's second nature

Hi Chris, thank you again for the lighting bulb moment from the other video on voicings, i got instantly gravitated towards your videos because of that. besides ive started couple days ago again play and learn about triads, i wanted to spicy up and having fun again with some demos like this. So ive decided that those are perfect video in begining when you showing us demos or usage of certain topics you are talking about. This Van Halen demo is wonderfull, but when i was about to practice it, ive kind of having it down, but i couldnt figure out the timing for this specific demo. How youre actually figuring out the timing in the metronome of specific songs when you trying to create or replicate it, i usually have real problem, i usually can learn it as it is, but when i try to learn it through metronome i cant never figure the rhytm with metronome. Thank you agian for your video, theyre masterpieces

I have to say that as a beginner I have avoided triads for a very long time. But this lesson absolutely did it for me. I feel the the key was the containment on just 3 strings. I had so much fun with this and I'm still having it a month after first time watching this lesson. It also helped me to unlock major scale and noodle around it. Further more it helped with mapping the neck. There is so much information to extract from this single lesson. Thank you for producing such valuable lessons!

@@curiousguitarist what resonates to me changes with my level so in this case I'm right at that stage where I'm learning to familiarize myself with the string sets and the inversion shapes and order that go with each. This lesson was just right for where I'm at. For me the best point was near the end where your went to the next higher 451, rather than the starting inversion. The next thing I need to wrap my mind around and make my own is learning the minor and diminished degrees shapes in the same position as the 145 to the point that it's second nature

thank you again for the lighting bulb moment from the other video on voicings, i got instantly gravitated towards your videos because of that.
besides ive started couple days ago again play and learn about triads, i wanted to spicy up and having fun again with some demos like this. So ive decided that those are perfect video in begining when you showing us demos or usage of certain topics you are talking about. This Van Halen demo is wonderfull, but when i was about to practice it, ive kind of having it down, but i couldnt figure out the timing for this specific demo. How youre actually figuring out the timing in the metronome of specific songs when you trying to create or replicate it, i usually have real problem, i usually can learn it as it is, but when i try to learn it through metronome i cant never figure the rhytm with metronome.
