Just to settle the debate. She was Mariah Carey's Vocal Director. Mariah's mother was and is her vocal coach. As Mariah's vocal director she was tasked with leading and arranging for the back ups singers and choir vocals. Yes Ms. Melonie has a vocal coach and has taught EVERYBODY how to sing but she was Mariah's director.
I used to be the biggest Melonie fan and I still am i awe of her range but at the same time I notice she is an incredibly self-indulgent singer who is in love with the sound of her voice. Sorry :-(
That could be said about many singers. Yes, singers who sing like Melonie can be but I've heard and she actually tasteful to me! Most of the singers I hear that aren't are usually non-black singers trying to imitate and end up falling each time because they don't understand that it's not just about the agility in the voice but the tone and the intent.
