Last scene was telling us, whatever we're going trough, we're all just human. RIP Alex. Thanx for everything you gave
I'll never forget that moment. RIP Alex Higgins. Genius
😥😥😥😥R.I.P. Alex thanks for the memories
What a player he was. Such lovely scenes at the end there.
You only have to listen to what Ronnie has to say about him.alex was the most exciting player ever he'd pot a ball nobody else would even attempt.hed miss pots you'd never expect him to miss you'd never know what he was going to do next.LEGEND.
He was ENTERTAINING and a Joy to watch, unlike the boring money making machines today. Sure they pot stuff that looks impossible, but they are yawnworthy which is why I no longer watch or play snooker. I watched it for the excitement of watching Alex play, not to be bored out of my skull by someone who can consistently clear a table from a break.
Alex & Ronnie both unorthodox but brilliant !!!
There are moments in sport which transcend the game. They're rare, unpredictable and magical. Watching Ray Reardon smiling as Alex clears the table. Watching Alex hold his nerve under the unimaginable pressure only to see the emotional release as he called to hold his baby daughter. For me, it brings tears to my eyes.
Reardon smiling was a thing of beauty and great sportsmanship. Nice to see, indeed.
Watching this live as a kid was fantastic, I mean jumping around the living room fantastic only to see all your neighbours doing exactly the same thing 😊🙏❤️❤️❤️ Everyone loved Alex Higgins like no other sportsman. This was special and the sport owes him so much RIP Alex
To my knowledge, still to this day the highest break ever made to win the world championship. Use the word sparingly but we’re talking about a legend here who inspired so many of the great players that came after him 👍👍👍
I once had a break of 148 at the snooker hall beside the Dog n Duck in Chepstow
This is why we love sports. I've seen this many many times. Still brings a tear to my eyes.
I was stationed in the UK while in the U. S. Air Force and watched this when broadcast on TV in 1982. Higgins made watching snooker fun and was an amazing player. If your opponent never gets the chance to shoot---count that toward greatness--in any era.
Alex put snooker on the map and players like Jimmy White And Ronnie O’Sullivan have carried on his legacy , RIP Alex .
I'll never forget that match in 1982 RIP Alex one of the best exciting players of all time.🙌
Seen it live on tv all these years later still
Pulls at the heart string rest in peace Alex you made snooker the game it is today
You have to look at the full picture with Alex...he grew up playing for the equivalent of 50p or £1 and had to play quickly as the light went ...
Truly blessed ..as we are to see him play...I did at Assembly rooms in Derby...just a month before this....incredible talent
Absolutely loved Alex. His unorthodox style of play won me over. R.I.P Alex 🏆
A real genius and he was so entertaining to watch. Much missed.
Why do I feel so sad watching this game from 32year's ago,it only seems like yesterday I was watching this match but hard to believe it's been 32years and you have departed this earth but your memory lives on in our hearts ,God bless you alex, you were a brilliant snooker player and I'm so proud to be Irish with great talent such as you,🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🌈🍀🌼🌻🌹🌸👏✊😘✌👍💖
These days there are a lot of people that would pre plan or playact emotion on TV to get a response. Alex did everything spontaneously and straight from the heart!
For all the ups and downs Alex we all love you for being real!!!
Championships and records are one thing, but your story and the legend is Immortal!
Snap shot in time when the man had everything.. RIP Alex.
The scenes at the end when he calls over his wife and child😥 #legend
I remember watching this match live , absolutely transfixed throughout & two of the best players of their era , fantastic how Alex held his game & just overwhelmed himself at the end of the match , you can see & feel the moment it all clicked in his mind .
Absolute legend thanks for the memories Alex will never be another .. a true legend of the sporting world 👊👊
He was & will be the the Hurricane always.A great player
That red at 1:23 is miss-able across the nap, especially on early 1980's cloths, but he just got down and floated it in, like it was a certainty. He was a genius and captivated audiences with his flair.
So good to hear Whispering Ted Lowe
Ted Lowe, Peter Alliss, and Sid Waddell the 3 best that I have ever heard
And Terry Griffiths. Slow but a great player. I think he won the world championship once.
I was 25 years old when Alex gave this display of pure genius, Now 65 years old and still love watching, Thanks for the memories Alex,R.I.P The hurricane😪
This genius of the table should have won more titles in his career. I remember this final and what a final it was. A true champion. RIP Alex the Hurricane Higgins
😁😪
Fantastic to watch when I was a kid back in the 80s, Alex was a magical player
Amazing - the dedication required for any pro snooker player to win this, is off the scale; but for a bloke who also had to battle the snooker institution, battle the press, and indeed battle his own multitude of demons and vulnerabilities on a daily basis?! *Breath-taking.* Alex's journey to this victory, the events of the years, and indeed the events of the previous match(!) with Alex's famous _"impossible break"_ against Jimmy, all go to make this an amazing and meaningful story. It wasn't just the indefatigable will of Alex beating all the foes, external and internal: it was a victorious message of hope: it told us all *_"yes humans are flawed, but they can prevail and excel and do wonderful things"._* Truly a _"People's Champion"_
A style of playing that hasn't been, can't be and never will be replicated. RIP Hurricane
Alex Higgins & Jimmy White made the game famous❤️
They took the game out of the smoke-filled halls and clubs and put it on everyone's telly - where it still is 40 years later. Supreme talents, the pair of them. Alex here at his imperious best.
No Davis vs Taylor did
@@martinsmith8487 The 1982 Higgins win was the event that put snooker as the first item on national news. It was only topped by Davis v Taylor...

Rip Alex thanks for the memories growing up in the 80s 😎👍🎱
Always hope that Alex's brittant world championship winning break never beaten. I was only 16 in 82 . Every time see this l get goosebumps RIP total Genius Alex.
I remember this well, i was 22 and now 63, Alex Higgins was my favourite snooker player,so many great memories 😮
Wonderful snooker vid. Interesting to see how different the positional play was back then. Less spin on the ball. More angles. Higgins was a fantastic player. The most exciting enigmatic player of his time.
absolutely brilliant player with so much talent, joy to watch him play
The very first shot was amazing. To stun it from that far away. Wow
without doubt a classical bit of snooker history
True People's World Champion ...Once in a lifetime 👌
Total Respect to the Hurricane 👊
Thank You Sir Alex
RIP
Sir Alex Higgins. Touched by the hand of God. Thee most gifted player ever. RIP.
One of the greats if not the greatest.
An absolute snooker genius that we will never see again sadly Alex was his own worst enemy RIP my snooker hero bar none.
Snooker at that time was so cool , looked like they’re the cast of movie godfather smoking while playing , the hairstyles , the evil smiles.
A absolute genius on the green base he took snooker to another level
When my son was about 11 years old he entered a Jaycee Relay Race. He’d never ran track before and didn’t know everybody wore shorts. He came in jeans, to everyone’s amusement. He ran the last leg for his team - and came away the fastest runner of the day, and made up considerable distance to win. This video made me think of that day. How I wish I had been able to see it, instead of only hear and read about it. I was a single mom and had to work. My son was an amazing athlete. ❤️
Great work with the "rake" by Higgins. Brilliant playing.
I’m born in 93 and watch snooker on and off and enjoy playing sometimes - grown up with John Higgins and Ronny and even caught abit of Hendry, I do like mark selby too.
This is the first time I’ve watched this legend and the way he just swaggered around the table like he was in the club, straight faced as a bulldog, and his technique and the way he moves is so unorthodox. Tremendous clearance, might watch more of him now.
I don't know how in the world Snooker got on my recommended, and I don't quite understand the rules, but Higgins is fun to watch.
One of the all time greats.
What a sensational player he was …great stuff
The peoples champion, no one had or will ever have the charisma Alex had at the table. A trailblazer. The legend Alex Hurricane Higgins.
Mesmerisingly great snooker, awesome 👍
I love this man so much. He was a legend .. the most humble person
You got two out of three right anyway.
Lol the camera cut back to Ray having a smoke, once he knew he had lost, was hilarious.
No flashy , no calculated shots. Awesome
LOVE THIS GUY!
I wasn't born when he was at the height of his powers but people still talked about him for years. Not because he was the greatest of all time, but because he was the most exciting, the most daring, the fastest, and the one who put on the greatest show.
I was emotionally touched.
Love you Alex. RIP ❤️❤️❤️
Scenes. A simpler time in the world. He was a true champion that day.
He was a genius 💥💥😢💥
Un mounstruo tan simple lo hacia ver .y tan lindo premio tu copa tu cheque y lo mas importante tu hijita y señora descansa en paz alex higgins inmortal jamás te superarán
I'd forgotten just how elegant a player Alex was. Played some VERY difficult shots and made them look routine.
I wonder if anyone watching this had any idea how historic and timeless this moment was?
You wondered correctly..
Its a classic by a classic
Oh yes!
I remember it so well. Was supporting Alex all the way in 1982. This break and the infamous one v Jimmy White in the semifinal are timeless
@@nobsjustreason3287 which infamous break? which frame?
That was an outstanding game Excellent Q Ball control Outstanding Job well done
Insane talent way ahead of his time .
Pure Genius!!!
81-89 classic years snooker darts golf, legends setting the standards.. A golden era…
I was stationed at RAF Upper Heyford from 80-83 and I loved watch snooker, darts, and cricket on TV. Never cared too much for "football."
Loved watching Alex brilliant player
Este é incrível parabéns ,joga demais 💯💯🏆
Im not even born yet, but the quality of the video is mamazing
Man who single handedly made this game famous. Alex was truly a people champ
The most well deserved and earned championship of all time. Alex a flawed man, showed the world he wasn't done just yet, RIP the man who changed snooker into a watchable sport for the whole world. Even to this day not a soul has rivaled his impact and charisma.
Alex epitomised the freedom of expression and sheer talent, willpower and raw courage to succeed, he dragged snooker from the murky smoke filled working mens clubs to the living rooms and hearts of his adoring public. He had flaws but he alone put snooker not only on the back pages but front pages. Think George Best, Sevvy Ballesteros, Ian Botham, game changers who changed the sport they played forever.
GOAT...Legendary Alex Higgins...RIP...
We use to watch this on tv and we only had a black and white one still enjoyed watching 😂
I remember this like it was yesterday 😢
In Snooker, there have been 2 Geniuses
Alex Higgins
Ronnie O'Sullivan
Put snooker on the world stage 🇮🇪
What a Player!
Alex is the most important player in history. If it wasn't for him it would never have become popular in the way it did. He was an artist and for one reason or another you cant keep your eyes off him when you see him play. He's fascinating
Legend 🙏
Wow he’s so good - I saw this live in 1982 as a 12 year old 😮
A true artist deserves emortallety
Simply the best.
Best break and moment in snooker history
Alex you were a hurricane and whiz with that cue, what a game that was, you were amazing and it's never been forgotten and neither will you ,you may be gone but your still in our hearts for as long as us old timers live, even to the younger generation who love snooker and know you from hearing stories about alex the hurricane, you will live on ,as I said you may be gone but your not forgotten,God bless you alex amen🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱 🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱🎱it's people like you that made us proud to be Irish, thank you, hope your at peace now and happy where ever you are,🎱💖✊👍✌👏😘🌸🌹🍀🍁🌻🌼🌿🍀🌈🌈🌈🌈☀☀🌈

Alex was elegant and a terrific player to watch..So much better than the lifeless robots of today..RIP alex.
What a legend
A stunning performance
Love his game
What a talent he was!
He lived his life on his terms and ended it that way good for you Alex you only get one life
Always got me that when Alex won the World title he was British when he headbutted the official he was Irish. He was the first the original not the best obviously in terms of titles but the reason snooker got 18million viewers never forgotten Alex rip.
Champion 🙏❤️
The Hurricane ... God Bless you Alex rip.....
