we rinse practically wash before we put in dishwasher so no big food particles. There's residue and micro particles of all kinds of things. I cleaned per video, then i sucked out the water with the wet vac. I connected the wet vac hose to the water hose coming from the dishwasher, wrapped a towel and hit the go button. It sucked whatever was clogging up the line. Great fix. So easy I did it. My husband has himself fixer wife. Also, i am ordering the maintenance product by Bosch to keep clean from Amazon.

Clean or change the "Air Gap" (usually chrome cylinder with a small window, sticking out of the sink next to the faucet). This video helped immensely but felt like only bought time by addressing the symptom and then problem reoccurred over and over. I was using this vacuum method almost every week sometimes 3 or 4 times a week and ready to dump the dishwasher. Since the "Air Gap" was replaced ($6 to $30 part) dishwasher has been problem free for over six months now.

Keep us updated. It’s been awhile for mine. That is a vent the chrome cap… but it could very well be blocked by food & such. I think we all have a very very weak drain pump.

I tried cleaning the filter, the impeller, running hot water down the drain, clearing out any debris from the drainage hoses, but none of it worked. This did though!!!! Thanks so much. Saved me a couple hundred bucks.

So, I recently had the same issues with my dishwasher so I watched a bunch of videos and none was able to deliver the most simple, yet best solution. Just use the shop vacuum WITH THE TOWEL to create the powerful suction needed. I used work as a handy man in real estate years ago and it’s videos is the best for 2023! Thanks dude!

I gave this a shot, and when I hooked up my shop vac, it wouldn't even suck anything through. It was laboring, so it wasn't a matter of the rag-seal not working. So while I had it disconnected, I put the blow-gun on my air compressor and blew everything from the drain line back into the dishwasher. Ewww. Cleaned out the nasty backlog (including a couple of pieces of hard plastic that were the apparent major obstacles (and which I have no clue where they came from). Then hooked up the shop-vac again, and it worked a treat. Thanks for the video!

I had the same E24 issue with my 1 yr old Bosch - drain tube had the food residue. Big food particle was trying to pop out and it was stuck. Just cleared it and didn't go the extreme of suction..all worked - took just 2 minutes. Thanks for this video, very helpful.

Hey again, TexasNova. I've tried your method twice now, due to some repeated clogs, and it worked beautifully. My dishwasher drain hose fits very tightly in my shop vac hose, so it has great seal and suction.
One word of caution, don't ever put a used food jar with a paper label on it in the dishwasher. That's what I did. The paper shreds and spins through your drain system for months before you can extract it all. The appliance we all own is not really a dishwasher like Mom's old KitchenAid, but a dish sanitizer. As another reader commented, clean off all loose food and grime before loading your dirty dishes.

Ok, was still having problem after shop vac, had to clean out a big plug of gunk that was blocking the drain tube vacuum on top of the sink. Was surprised to find that. Hadn't cleaned it in years. It must have been retarding the pumps ability to drain the system effectively.

Really smart thinking to shopvac from the sink side. Worked like a charm. In my case, the clog was right where the drain hose attaches. What makes this technique so good is that if it works, you know for sure that the path is clear from the bottom of the dishwasher to the sink. Thanks a bunch!!!

We had a clog at both ends. The shop vac got the water at the garbage disposal end, but it couldn't get the water at the dishwasher end. Do what I did was take the hose from the dishwasher and connected it to my faucet and turned the water full blast, and BOOM- the water broke through the guck at the dishwasher end. The shop vac was then able to suck up all the water at the dishwasher end. Thanks sir!

Thanks for the fix; you video came in handy. We have just moved into a new -to-us home, and had a Bosch dishwasher installed. After just one wash, we had this problem. It seems that in our case, it turned out to be the pipe that the dishwasher drains into was severely clogged. Maybe some of you don't actually have a problem with your dishwasher but with dirty grease-clogged pipes. Everything is working well now. I was surprised and disappointed that this should happen to a brand new Bosch when previously I had gone 15+ years, no repairs or problems.

Used this method to evacuate the drain water and in the process it occurred to me the air gap is possibly the root cause. I noticed later that someone else had also reached this conclusion. you came up with a good idea but I might add I thought it was I disappointed at how slow it was draining with the vacuum. So I filled the dishwasher trap with vinegar let it sit for a few minutes then vacuumed like you said. I did this 3 times then I poured water in the dishwasher trap an zip it drained quickly. Thanks for the great idea.

Thanks for the tip - it did the trick! One tip to add. The watertap error doesn't necessarily clear the minute you do this vacuum trick. In my case I had to fully run the dishwasher. It complained at first with its error beeping, but once the unit realized everything was clear, it started washing like normal and the error cleared itself.

A good fix. I almost didn't try it because my shop vac was in the shed...on the far side of a 3 ft snow drift... but I'm glad I did. 2 refinements: I joined the hoses with DUCT TAPE then flushed out the drain by sucking 2 litres of hot water thru. Got a lot of greasy glop back.

    Hi
Here is another quick fix that works. The filter in the bottom of my dishwasher dishwasher was clean, yet clogged with mineral build up. I soaked the filter in vinegar (like cleaning a coffee maker) for an hour and it was like the second coming of the messiah--the dishwasher works 1000% better, the sound of the washing cycle is much more vigorous, and no more water tap error--for over a month.

  • @tonymarek286
    @tonymarek286 5 років тому +16

This is a good strategy for bad clogs. But before you go to this much trouble, check the air gap first: take the cap off of the air vent on the counter top, then remove the inner cap to see the hose that leads from the dishwasher pump to your drain. Many times you'll find the debris causing the clog right there. You can remove the clogging debris, replace both caps and restart your dishwasher cycle. You don't need any tools other than maybe a butter knife or screwdriver to help remove the inner cap. Takes 5 minutes or less.

    • @fred306801
      @fred306801 3 роки тому +2

Mine does not have a air cap on the counter. Only thing I have under the counter is the drain hose. And it goes into the drain. I took the drain hose off and put the shop vacuum the hose blew air in. Then got into the dishwasher, took out the cover and filter and removed that plastic clip that covers the motor and vacuumed that out. Then took drain hose and connected it back to the shop vacuum and let it suck it out. While the shop vac is running I pour a few gallons into the dish washer. It will work perhaps another 4 or 5 times and then I will have to do it again. The first month 3 different service guys came out to fix it. This thing has never worked like it was suppose to. $550 for the POS. Would be interest to know if this has some kind of air gap on it. The only other thing I see on this is some kind of float thing inside the dishwasher seems to regulate the water level.

I usually never comment on these things but had to comment as my E24 is happening during Coronavirus (for the 3rd time) and I had to hunt down this video to remember which tube to disconnect. I cleared out the drain filters in the dishwasher just in case, but when I disconnected the dishwasher drain tube and no water came out, it was obvious that the blockage was in the tube and not in the dishwasher.

First, thanks for posting. You saved me a service call. I was getting the E.24 error and after watching the above video, I decided to check the drain-airlock thingy that is about 2 inches tall and 1 inch wide and is on the sink which is attached to the dishwasher underneath the sink by a hose. Once I lifted the cover on the airlock thingy and unscrewed the cover, I found that the drain hose (about the thickness of a pencil) was clogged with food particles! I cleaned it out by hand and by using a vacuum cleaner for about a second to suck out the debris I could not reach, the dishwasher worked perfectly. So give this a look-see as it's a very quick solution that works. I'm wondering if you are missing this step (and missing the root cause of the clog) as you are cleaning out the tube before the obstruction? In any case, your guidance on thinking about a clogged drain directed my thinking to find the root cause in my case. Thanks again.

    • @TexasNova
      @TexasNova  7 років тому +1

      Gary Excellent point!
I did miss this & did not think about it. This makes perfect sense. I did just look at mine & even though it was clear it did show signs of build up. But if it were to be clogged then it would definitely kick out the error code once it started up again. So I dodged that one.
Glad I saved you that service call!!

I saw this video the other night. We have a 7 year old Bosch. The “water tap” error message came up. I went out and got a Craftsman 5 hp wet vacuum on sale . I used the tip from one of the responders below and used duct tape to create a tight seal between the wet vac and the drain hose. A lot of gunk came out. I then opened the dishwasher but the message was still there so I turned off the breaker and put it back on. Message was still there. So I held the start button down for ten seconds and hit in and the message was gone. Just ran the washer and it ran flawlessly. Thanks for the great video and help.

I have a Bosch dishwasher series 2 silence plus! Stainless steel. I find if you use the cool washes a lot like 45c 50c it can clog up after a few months. So when I got pots and pans or greasy items I use 70c intensive wash! And never had any problems and I don’t rinse before I put them in! As it just leaves white marks on everything… my sister has the slimline version led version and her impeller has been jammed with glass and food before (she doesn’t look after hers as good as I look after mine) unblocked it and it’s worked fine after! There’s a plastic clip you slide out in the sump pit! You’ll be surprised what can get stuck in that little gap.
But I see your point my old hotpoint ultima 1997 version never had this problem the motor was definitely more powerful than this Bosch. And it was 24 year old when it stopped working. But i gave it away and it still goes just gets stuck on rinse a lot. But it never ever got blocked ever!!

    Hey,
TexasNova, I had the dreaded E24 message and used the shop vac from the inside thinking the suction might be enough to clear the clog. It wasn't, and I half thought about your method from the drain hose end, but wasn't sure. So, I was glad to come across your solution and will try it later today. Thanks again, bro.

Thanks for solving my problem. It was coffee grounds that clogged the dishwasher. I guess I'll have to empty the coffee press before I put it in the dishwasher.

Under the coarse-mesh tray-filter there’s a fine-mesh cylinder-filter. Clean it. It sits loose, below dirty water. For me, this worked: remove the the fine-mesh cylinder > clean cylinder with an old toothbrush > reinstall it > reset the dishwasher to start a new cycle (in the first minute, the dishwasher will pump out the dirty water). A second time a plastic blockage fell out when I released the drain hose from the drain pipe under the sink. I think it was caused by the slight choke point where the hose clamps to the pipe.

Looked like a great idea, but first I thought I would try something simple. I selected Express cycle, turned it on and it drained immediately. I then held reset button for 3 seconds and turned it off. Simple.

  • @yoya7164

Quicker fix.... when you start dishwasher, let it run for a minute. Open/close door. Let it run again for another minute, open/close door. Cycle will run completely. Give it a try. You might have to play around for exact timing. But it works! I taught appliance repair man this trick. He was in disbelief. Been doing this for 2 years now. It's part of the routine. Sad Bosch.

Thanks for that tip. I've had my bosch for 5 yrs with no problem until recently. I can hear it draining and when it throws the code, I'll open it up and there's no water in the bottom, so I don't think mine is clogging problem.

If all else fails, try this:
    1. Start machine, then wait for maybe 30-60s until after the second time the machine makes some buzzing sound (pump running). When it goes silent, open the machine.
    2. Wait for maybe 5 s, then close and let it resume.
This workaround works well. A bit of timing is needed, so might need a few attempts.

  • @TheJRD89

1, ALWAYS and periodically (every week or two - it only takes 2 minutes) take the screen and filter out of the bottom and clean with bottle brush in the sink.
2 And always remove large hunks of food from plates. If you do both you will never have a problem. It is a dishwasher not a garbage disposal.
If it does give E24. Then do step 1 - clear screen and filter 2. Reset and start and it will drain clear.
This assumes your garbage disposal is not full of food crap. Before every use of your dishwasher, ALWAYS first run the garbage disposal clear then the flow from the dishwasher won't be impeded.
The drain tube should run directly to the garbage disposal and if the dw is full of crap the dishwasher will not drain as the flow is impeded to the plumbing. I have had a BOSH for 10 years and the only single time it gave E24 and plugged was one a family member left a bunch of waste in the garbage disposal impeding the flow. I ran the disposal. Cleaned filter. Turned off and restarted and it drained and ran fine. No need for wet vac.
Final word on wet dry vac. ALWAYS take the paper filter out when vac use for liquids. Otherwise it will become moldly. Filer is for dry use only. If it is a true wet dry vac it is designed to be used without the paper filter for liquids. Nothing will spray out if you have the top lid oriented correctly to the body of the vac. They are designed that way. If you are 180 out of phase, then problematic.

I solved this problem byreading the comments below and found this simple solution without having to use the wet/dry vac: I turned off the dishwasher, turned it back on, I put the dish washer on the "Rinse & Hold" cycle and it worked for me. I had to do this a couple times, then it started to drain.
Once it drained I cleaned out the food trap in the bottom.

Thanks for the help....the only friendly tips I might off is that instead of using a wet cloth as a seal...use a small plastic bag. It will get sucked into every crevice, and create a tighter seal...plus you don't have to clean another cloth.

I have had my bosche dishwarster for about 3 or 4 years now. Had this error happen once, cleaned the screen etc, ran the diswasher and got the error, tried a couple times, and eventually it cleared itself out.
Just got the error for the second time ever today. Will pull out the shop vac and give this a try!
I don't have one of those air lock things though - perhaps it is the model of the dishwasher?

  • @tracysaunders

TexasNova, thank you so much for this helpful video!
First, I would never buy a Bosch dishwasher again. Of 2-3 other brand dishwashers I've owned over 30+ years, I've never experienced this kind of persistent nuisance problem. (The E24 drain error code has occurred in my dishwasher at least six times in the last year, and machine is less than 3 years old.) The filter at the bottom of any Bosch dishwasher is supposed to be cleaned periodically, but this should not be a CONSTANT need/problem when I very thoroughly (old-school) rinse my dishes before putting in the dishwasher...there are virtually no hard food particles going into my dishwasher drain.
Second, there is a Bosch UA-cam video where you pull out the filter in the bottom of the dishwasher, and the thingy in the bottom of that filter compartment, and disconnect the hose that runs into your sink drain or garbage disposal, and check all these areas for and clean any debris. I have done this before, and I can tell you the process is unnecessarily more complicated than TexasNova's brilliant Shop Vac solution. (Unless you have a legit blockage...what, are you putting leftover lasagna in your dishwasher?!)
Third, I took the lazy approach to TexasNova's Shop Vac solution, and merely sucked the water out of the drain in the bottom of the dishwasher (instead of the hose connecting to the sink drain) and it worked like a charm. Just completed a successful dishwasher cycle, so that's a win!
Finally, even if you rinse dishes thoroughly before placing in the dishwasher, you can still get build-up of scum/minerals that reduce the efficiency of the filter in the base of the dishwasher. I've replaced my filter once (pretty easy to find and order online using your dishwasher model number), but you can also extend the filter's life by periodically removing it and soaking it overnight in a container of household vinegar.
Let me reiterate, no dishwasher I've owned before has been such a pain in the ass. Would never buy a Bosch again. But hopefully TexasNova's and my suggestions will help you extend the life of your Bosch until you're ready to buy another brand. :-D

I do not have that silver thing up on counter. I have a silver metal hose that connects to a connector under sink. You are right I will never buy a Bosch. Unfortunately mine is only a year old. 2nd time for this last time I cleaned it my self but now I think debris is further down and suction sound like it will be needed. I am not comfortable unhitching the metal connectors.
