Kidd Video: Official Music Video Collection (1984-1985)

- "Kidd Video" was a strange cartoon/live action series that aired on NBC Saturday mornings from 1984-1985 (reran until 1987) that centered around a band ("Kidd Video") who were kidnapped from reality & sent into a cartoon world.. each show would feature the band trying to escape the "Flip Side" and find a portal that led back into the real world. The show was designed to cash in on the MTV craze, and each show featured an original music video at the end featuring the live action "Kidd Video" members..
Anyway, here's a sample of the music videos that were featured on the show. Notice that one of the members is played by the kid who played "Cousin Oliver" on the "Brady Bunch"..
The songs featured are; Video To Radio, Video Romeo, Turn Me Up, Automatic, A Little TLC, I Love Rock & Roll, You Better Run, It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing, Where Did Our Love Go, Ending Credits - Комедії
I'm 50 and loved this show as a teen. Since vinyl is back I wanted to get the lp and finally obtained a copy of the soundtrack from Israel
Didn't know they had a vinyl records.

in a way mich, this cartoon describes what happens when artists sign to labels. they go from being music artists to looking like "cartoons" of their former selves. The kidd video series was , in a way, a glimpse into what happens when an artist signs their talent away on the dotted line.
That and how they fizzle out snd never get popular again
Unbelievable. I was driving and “tainted love” came on. After more than 30 yrs it all the sudden came rushing back! I had to Google it. “80’s show where band turns into cartoon”. It popped right up and here I am 15 mins later. And they say time machines don’t exist…I’m there all over again

So happy I got to live in that generation where we could actually play outside and not be glued to a phone ignoring everything around.
I am sooooooooo glad i have all of these on dvd uncut & got the album (rare find) here in my collection. I might just start loading the episodes and the album versions of the tracks on youtube.
I use to like this cartoon back in the 80, especially when they had music videos that break away from the cartoon for a quick minute or so. I was sad they cancled the show. They should put this one on DVD or even a bootleg.
"Cousin Oliver" was played by Robbie Rist, Whiz in Kidd Video and also the voice of Michaelangelo in the TMNT Movies from early 1990s
Mr. Rist also voices Choji Akimichi in the English dub of Naruto

And there was actually a Soundtrack album released in Israel Only!!
@@martymcfly5434 I'm going by character names here, Carla was the oldest at 22 , then Ash 21 , Whiz 20(cousin Oliver) and Kidd 19 in 1984. :)
I also remember seeing him in an episode of Knight Rider (the 1980's version, not the shit remake from the 2000's) as well. Pretty sure it was either right before or during KV.

I always thought Kidd Video were the precursor of the image-conscious music video age. Sounded appropriate for a young crowd on Saturday mornings.
I'll admit to watching this in the 80's. It's so funny to look back at stuff from the past-corny! Anyway am I the only one who thought Master Blaster looks like Eddie Arcadian from The Last Dragon movie? The 80's & 90's were pretty cool & funny at the same time with lots of interesting memories....
Though it is a co-production with DiC, this was Saban's first cartoon they produced.
I liked this cartoon series especially in the early 80’s!

WKYC Channel 3 was our NBC affiliate in Cleveland back in the day I loved the Chipmunks and Mr. T. was my stuff along with Kidd Video
Carla's songs are my favorites! Turn Me Up is legit one of my favorite songs of all time, and I actually think their version of It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing is a lot better than the real song they covered it from.
Their version of It's Over When The Phone Stops Ringing was actually the original. The Eighth Wonder version came later.

I remember this show very well. I even remember writing to them & getting an autographed picture. I always thought Gabrielle was so pretty & Bryan was a dreamboat.
Back in 1984 "Kidd Video" debuted on NBC and lasted two seasons. Later in 1987 it was re-run on CBS!
Oh yeah, I forgot that KV did a nice Pointer Sisters cover.
This was one of my favorite shows as a kid. Seriously needs to be released.

mich , in a way, the kidd video series made a commentary on the real music scene, especially then. When artists sign their names on dotted lines, they become "cartoons". of their former selves. They go to flidside (L.A.) where they have to deal with copycats (tribute bands).
This was one of the few reasons why I enjoy waking up early on Saturday morning, of course, most of my friends never like them but I did. I wonder what they are doing now. Thank you for adding these.

Favorite cartoon probably ever! But this was the 80’s just like the rest of the cartoons of the 80’s favorite 🤩
In October on the 26th I’ll be turning 50, but like I posted many times already on the internet they need to start getting these 1980’s cartoons out on Blu-ray already! Because if they don’t we are still the lost generation that had it good 👍🏻 when it came to those cartoons! Wake up movie and cartoon industry! We’re not dead ☠️ yet!😡😥we want to also pass on the torch to the next generation as well!

And another trivia tidbit : Carla originated the phrase "Ai yi yi!" before Alpha 5 did! They should have done a "Power Rangers"-like concept for this show with live-action instead of a cartoon,lol! But I love this show,I miss it! Thank you! :)

I very highly agree with Byron about the great Danny devito portraying the main villain of this cartoon from my childhood.i mean being an original viewer at three years old.

Call me crazy but I remember them also doing the full version of Video to Radio on American Bandstand (I think, or it was a similar show) before the cartoon was on in the fall of 1984 as some sort of promo.

@mst3k4evr 80's in all its glory I had the same hairstyle as this girl & the girl from the Thriller video when I was in 6-7th grade. This cartoon and Soul Train made my Saturday mornings as a I kid ;-)

Growing up in 1980, was myself being born into the decade of big hair, tacky fashion and different types of music until Kidd Video came into the scene of Saturday morning cartoon lineup on NBC (ding, ding ding) at Sept 1984.

I've got an .mp3 of the full length 3:32 version of the theme song that I found YEARS ago on some .mp3 sharing program... probably on the original Napster, it was so long ago! It was apparently ripped from an Israeli Kidd Video album. I guess Kidd Video was just really popular in Israel?
