I also live in georgia and bought my 1300 triple black from whoolys, awesome dealer!, bobby and tony are awesome. I did have 2 recalls done to my bike already, for oil pump and starter relay. I'm at the 3000 mile mark, so I guess I'll wait to the 6k service to see if they already have the parts to replace that starter button, since I'm 2hs away and I can not losse a entire day just on that! No problems at all on my bike besides she is drinking too much oil.
They're good folk. Glad your bike has remained reliable. A friend covered several thousand on his trouble free (totaled in an accident). Excessive oil use on boxers is generally down to running them in too kindly. They need to be revved out a little to get a good seal in the initial miles. I've had 9 BMW motorcycles and none have used any oil between services. If you WFH, remember that they have wifi, so you can work from the dealership if you every have to visit.
@RichDunn yep, honestly, I like it, but I don't love it.
@@12masterr I've owned several boxers and unusually this one does seem a bit devoid of any character. Like you, I do admire the engineering and respect its competence, but unlike say the imperfect Ducati Streetfighter V4S I owned, it's kinda hard to love. It's feels like I've kinda settled for the plain Jane girl next door, if you know what I mean?
@RichDunn well, I have been seriously thinking about the v4 rally, just because of the " lack of character " of the 1300. I don't really enjoy going tru the gears of the R1300gs. For some reason, the transmission is only smooth in the 3k/4 k range, I don't find it enjoyable going tru the gears, Like some people say, Is not a bike that I turn over to look when closing the garage door!. Big mistake because is going to cost me to replace it!
@@12masterr My good friend and part of my crew Erik (video of his new 'loud' Z06 out on Friday btw) has about a dozen really nice high-end bikes (M1000XR-C, TFC Rocket, moto2, etc) and a friend asked him today if he could only have one, which one is he keeping. And he immediately said his MTS V4 Rally. So that's as good a testament as any. Both Pandora's and MMS have them in stock I believe - ouch!
Really upsetting when you pay 26 grand or so for a bike and it won’t even start while your out for a ride . I’m sticking with Japanese bikes
Over 30 grand out the day, so its smarts even more! An Africa Twin or a Tenere is a pretty solid bet if reliability is everything,,I'd agree.
Never buy a new BMW motorcycle untill its been in production for 2 years .
Well I did buy 8 others in the first year or production, experienced no faults, and enjoyed strong residual values because they were still very desirable when I trade them. But it's true to say the risk is higher, so if you keep your bike for a very long time, buying a model that's remained unchanged in production for years is good advice.
@@RichDunn I've had atleast seven GSA and GS since 2009, and the quality and finish has gone south while the prices have gone north, I've never known bikes with so many recalls and problems. Not for me since 2021, moved on.
@@mickhep I've only had five since 2006. I think the finish has always been been good and the latest tech and improvements were never cheap. But like you I do think quality control has suffered, and good examples are the Hayes caliper debacle and the GS13 (Shad) panniers embarrassment. I'll probably own something else before they're even available to buy!
Or better still, just buy Japanese and avoid all the drama.
@@Jungleland33 I've owned dozens of Japanese bikes, and they've generally been reliable (apart from the ones with engine failure), but they're often devoid or character, rarely feel special, and often have terrible dealerships, so its a balancing act.
Had three GSs, moved to Ducati and not going back, most of the BMW issues are dodgy sensors but not good enough QC in the factory in my humble opinion, my friend has just handed his back.
ehmm good luck with that - Ducati have there fair share of issues .....
I've had several Ducati's and no problems other than some surging on Multi V4's of you overfill the gas inner filler level. I traded a Multi V4S for the GS, which was faultless for 7k and clearly I should have kept it! Some good updates on that bike for next year, so another is always a possibility.
@@beetleything1864My 2022 Multi V2S has been faultless, can’t say the same for my friends BMWs even though I had no problems with my three GSs, modern Ducatis post the VW acquisition have been a lot better. By the way I ride all year round in a very wet northern England.
Sorry to hear you are having this experience, a bit of a Lemon by the sounds of it. A real shame and I have every confidence in BMW routing out any issues and standing by their product. But I get where you are with it, this is our down time, our passion and if you don’t get a smile on your face when you enter the garage it’s time to move on.
Thanks, Steve. There's no lemon law on GA so the closest I got was to stand next to a lemon tree in Limone, on Lake Garda! Bill says the new switchgear should arrive today, so I'll hopefully get that fitted next week and monitor reliability and enjoyment factor from that point onwards. At this point though an M-bike or another V4 is appealing.
maybe start the buyback process
I'd love a fair trade price credit note from BMW to use against another bike of theirs, but I don't see that happening unfortunately!
@ full replacement would be fair i think or complete refund. it’s sad day when you consider the ducatis more trouble free. i dont put a ton of miles on my multistrada v4 but so far 2 seasons other than not fully filling it no issues
can I ask what the build date on your bike is?
The Certificate of Origin doesn't state it. I'm sure it would have been an early 2024.
@@RichDunn I believe it'll say month and year on the right side of the steering head.
The last 5 minutes of the video won’t play, dying to know how it turned out. Was thinking of trading my 1250 GSA to the 1300 but already changed my mind. Could you please give an update on how it turned out for you ?
I appreciate the feedback. A friend just said the same thing. Very strange, because I've just watched it back through every second and it was fine. Maybe a local broadband polling problem. If it happens again, just refresh the page or open a new web browsing session and reload the video. Please try it again and LMK how you get on!
00:59 shaky IPhone? A new model on the market? again? xD
iPhone 16 Max Pro. Must be the person holding it!
My brothers one spent a lot of time being repaired, and warranty issues, its perfectly reliable now, its been nicked by the local scooter riding scum
That sucks, sorry to hear that! I've just received an email saying the new switchgear is in, so I'll have that fitted and see whether accumulatively the problems are then behind me.
bmw are giggling as they know dopey cashed up old blokes will line up and pay 30k for a shitbox thats as dear as a suv and as heavy---lmao
It's actually the lightest bike in the group and the biggest selling large capacity motorcycle in the world by a very large margin. Dopey old blokes can spell and punctuate, which is probably why they are so well paid, meaning they can afford to roll the dice!
Well, if you want to do a test ride on my 900 GT Pro as an alternative, let me know.
Thanks, Tom. I have actually tested the 900 GT Pro. It's a good bike, very well spec'd, and a worthy peer to the Tracer 900, and MTS V2S. I think the forthcoming Tiger 800 Sport might be a sweet spot. I'm probably not going to buy an Adventure bike next. I've owned a dozen of them (coz they work), so might try another category of bike next.
wow, what an ordeal.
Yeah, it's been a bit depressing. I've just received an email saying the new switchgear is in, so I'll have that fitted and see whether accumulatively the problems are then behind me.
So many issues with this model & some others of BMW what’s happened to their QC?
Sorry your having these issues mate…I’ll be sticking to Japanese motorcycles as I’ve never had a single issue with any of them I’ve owned!
Parts made in China and assembled in Germany by cheapest labour they can find all to save money and pay shareholders more no such thing as Quality Control there now.
I don't like at all this new BMW-s models
I have the same model, this is also my first BMW motorcycle, and I think it will be the last BMW.
Overpaid motorcycle junk. 😠
Its really bloody poor, a major manufacturer like BMW, you wouldn't expect this , KTM are worse, what's going on, Reliability and build quality on everything is crap now, why i no longer want to be in the motor trade, nothing says fixed anymore, parts are very expensive and shit! Cars and bikes are way too tec heavy and unnecessarily complicated. I buy vehicles registered before 2010 . After that they are cheaply made over priced unreliable and expensive to fix , Hope you get it sorted, its a very poor show, but its a common complaint now. 😢
Thanks for your feedback, Ray. I agree with much of what you say. I think they all have FOMO - worried that if they are not first to market and offering the most features in the class, that they'll not sell any. So us owners are slowly becoming the beta version test guinea pigs for poorer quality products. And you're right, it isn't good enough. Anyone that's heard the solid "thunk" of a mid nineties Mercedes Benz door, vs a current one, knows exactly what I mean. I do have a follow up "short" video coming out, post relay and starter housing replacement, and I'm happy with say that a few hundred miles later zero problems. I'll be happier when that's a few thousand miles later though. The GS is pretty much perfect now, heated seat, grips and electric windshield in near zero temps for 250 miles yesterday perfectly highlighted that. But I still mind change it... out of spite!
The heavy rain at garmisch Motorad days this year. A fair few new gs needed the right hand switch gear replaced
My friend had two replaced, a long time BMW issue..
Thanks for the feedback on that - GTK, appreciated!
I had mine replaced yesterday under a technical bulletin (read: if the customer complains), but my dealer's workshop believes they'll be an official recall now. So far (300 miles) so good - wish me luck!
Interesting video, unusual to hear of quality control issues with BMW. Please post if any further problems occur. Thanks
I certainly will. Despite all the problems, it hasn't put me off the brand. The good times BMW has given me way outweigh the bad times.
