Hi Naked Bob! They are cool 8-bit synths for sure! I just did a video on showing that side of the "chiptunes" ability - have you checked it out? Opinion: it's a great bit of kit, the 8-bit synth sounds very retro! - and I picked mine up for a steal - when Roland were having trouble moving them :)
Hi, do you know if it would be possible to overcome some A-01 limits by sysex, for example: the midi cc >97 ? I'd like to pilot my Bastl Microgranny 2 with A-01, Microgranny has some midi controllable parameters on cc > 100, and I'm stuck with my A-01 not showing these. Also, it seems that microgranny can cycle the 6 sounds on the shown preset by the first midi octave but again, this seems unreachable by the A-01 (while it works on my keystep, for example). Thank you!
Hi, the MIDI CC is limited to 97. Anything above that would be NRPNs, and the A01 doesn't seem to have this feature. However, in SYSEX normal mode you would be able to enter any SYSEX message - completely without restriction. To do this, you would need to consult the Microgranny manual or do some reverse engineering and look at a MIDI monitor to see the SYSEX messages coming.

Thanks for sharing the info! You mentioned that it's possible to store only 4 SysEx messages. Does that mean 4 per patch or 4 total?
Hi Martti, thanks for your questions. The SysEx is for controller mode, not for the internal synth patches. So yep - because there are only 4 physical knobs, each are available for a custom SysEx message :) Have an awesome week!

Thanks! Meanwhile I stumbled upon a gearslutz forum where someone confirmed that SysEx strings are indeed stored at patch level so the thing can hold 64 different SysEx messages. I guess I wasn't too clear about what I was asking.

I guess I am kinda randomly asking but does anyone know a good website to stream newly released series online?
CAN YOU SAVE THAT AS A PROGRAM OR PART of the patch on A01 to avoid having to re enter all those sysex info upon restarting the A01..?
Hi, Yes, you can save up to 16 patches in controller mode.
