Aldous Huxley - Sum of Substance
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 бер 2017
- Huxley probes the possibilities of man responding to his immediate experiences, within the limitations of his particular culture. He underlines the importance of educating ourselves in "wise passivity," in receptiveness to the various worlds we experience at any given moment. January 20, 1963.
The fact that there are only 9,000 views on this incredibly enlightening conversation points to 1 of the infinite reasons we are completely failing as a species.

Rocky Squirrel is my favorite thinker since my grammar school.

Wonderful quote
at which point they mute his voice and you see him go on babbling
Damn, wish there was a longer form of this interview
The point we miss is that it's not possible to culture, raise, educate, develop every individual at the same time.
People are born and die everyday.
We exist in a world full of overlapping lifetimes.
People in every state and at every stage of human development.
So moving fast, some moving slowerly.
The reality is we will never achieve a collective unity of consciousness.
We should strive for it individually and let the expression of quality we achieve become attractive to others and the next generation.
17:16 The Red Queen tells Alice that "in this country, you have to run as fast as you can to stand in the same place. To get somewhere else you have to run twice as fast as you can." That was an excerpt out of "Alice In Wonderland," a fictional tale which was written in 1865, and still applies today!
The middle class.

"Intelligence without Goodwill is apt to be inhuman, and Goodwill without Intelligence is impotent. The two must go together." Anyone able to come up with good examples of this in practice?
Anyone who identifies with the source of all things..and not of the mind.
He's simply saying that both intelligence and goodwill are so complementary to one another that when executed on their own they are empty constructs
Example, "intelligence without goodwill", is our scientific community, especially environmental "experts" who blindly think they know better than other mother nature!!
Intelligence without goodwill: creating chemical weapons
Goodwill without intelligence: improper dosage of medicine
There have been many attempts to combine goodwill and encouragement with practical intelligence, the emancipation of the working classes with state education was such an attempt, at least a worker's offspring had the potential to study at university for example, my own older brother was such a beneficiary of this as a Bricklayer's son, he gained good grades and sat for a scholarship that paid for his university tuition and living expenses, that is a poor example I grant you but it is a valid one
"Alert wise passivity" a tool belonging to prophet poet and craftsman. Any problem like fixing a complex machine or predicting the future, best tool is letting solutions passively come to you trusting silent's answer, practice by just sleeping on it!
It's too bad the "important" people lacked the necessary intelligence and good will to devise a sustainable system. The human race had such potential.
Feelings (true feelings) are fact because they can transform facts...
What ever happened to English being spoken with intellect & fluency? He communicates simply and defined, takes the baffling and organizes the human dilemma..."Egotism"

@27:58 "I mean, can't we ever keep our trap shut for a little bit?"
What I understand is that are current language is very old and to many interpretations and hostile . We must purify are current language and way of thinking.
A quantum jump ASAP 🤔
Carlos Valencia it seems to me if the monetary system doesn’t change we can’t never experience a change in our culture
It’s so stupid, the premise. Huxley has a televised interview in the year 1958 .
It’s not “an ancient montage”

did he just call humans amphibians? scientific categories have changed a bit since then, not that life forms should be split and divided into categories in the first place
I always thought Huxley was an intelligent man, but he really has no idea what he's talking about. The intellect will never know the way out, in the absence of intellect, that is where the wisdom is
Explain.
All time is contained in now. Past and future stems from now. Intellect is operated on past knowledge. To see something which is true must be timeless, must be always in the present. Words are only pointers of reality, never the reality. Nothing is written in universe. So, for the man to receive wisdom, he must be not in the view. Virgil - 'Mind moves matter.' Knowledge is in metaphysical unchangeable domain, not in the perishable matter. Because Intellect only operate in the field of knowledge. It can never see something which is intuitive. Only the poet/artist can do it.@@joserivadeneira7361
