Victor Hugo'nun Bir İdam Mahkumunun Son Günü adlı romanını okuyordum ve kitabın ilk sayfalarında bu parçanın adı geçiyordu, dayanamadım baktım. Gayet etkileyici...

Very nice performance of a piece which is seldom heard. I had performed this with my choir, Zamir Chorale of NY. It should be noted that Palestrina did not score the entire text of the psalm. He ends with the exiles weeping by the river, whereas the psalm itself ends with the enemy being vanquished. Still, it is a delightful piece, musically speaking, and well performed here.

One of the most affecting performance of this jewel of the Renaissance. The immediacy of the despondency is so apparent. Of course this is the lamentation of the Jewish people after the destruction of Solomon's Temple in 586 BCE by the Babylonians and their forced migration there.

Curiosamente el texto es el mismo de la canción "Rivers of Babylon" de Boney M 😁

What an amazing choir. I really can't speak highly enough of it.
But I have a question. If the composer died in 1594, how did he write this motet in 1604?
The Grove says that Palestrina published this one in his second book of 4-voice motets (1583-4). What amazing stuff.

It was published after his death in Venice...

That's because it was composed in 1584.

So far, everyone is guessing. If the published version of 1584 is different than the 1604 version, just say it.
