Another aspect of the Rodgers trade not mentioned: Allowing the Packers to let go of Lazard, Cobb, Tonyan, M. Lewis, Crosby and others that Rodgers wanted to keep around, without too much drama. These releases cleared roster spots and playing time (and saved salary-cap space) for the development of younger, cheaper players that is benefiting Green Bay now.
The one thing nobody talk about with Rodgers going down so early is that it spared Love the weekly comparisons of how they were doing. Rodgers was compared to Favre ad nauseum in 08. How would that extra attention have affected things when the Packers were in their midseason lull? The way things happened, Love could be Love without that extra pressure
One thing not talked about with the Rodgers trade is the passing of the torch with some of the controversial media stuff that Rodgers provided. I for one am pretty happy that there is less drama. As much as I love Rodgers as the player. My perspective of him had really change the past three years.
I was saying this just yesterday. He really got weird. He was amazing as a player but dang he couldnt get us over that NFC championship game hump. That's the difference between him and Brady. I hate it but Brady is the king. Idk what it is but he does it. The defense has been to blame but so is he.
Whether or not if it was the media that made him more of a villain than he truly was, it was still not fun having a lot of the controversy. I’m all for players expressing their personal beliefs. I think it was just a tumultuous time, in general, for the team.
@@miscellaneousetc.4280Brady converts 3rd downs consistently and isn't always lookin for the big play..... When Brady came up to Lambeau and beat Aaron there was a play where Brady simply gave Gronk something like a screen pass on 3rd down THAT BASICALLY ENDED THE GAME & IT WAS GRONK'S 2ND AND LAST CATCH OF THE GAME... AARON TRIES TO CONTROL EVERYTHING OFFENSIVELY TOO MUCH BUT KEPT LOSING THAT WAY‼️🤷🏿♂️🤯🎯💯💯
You think that aspect is not talked about!? People addicted to consuming Packers content, who also believe media headlines - definitely had their opinions change of him the last few years.
How about some trades that fell through and saved Gutey: Will Fuller, Darren Waller, Chase Claypool. Those would have been a big hit on where we are today.
I agree, I wouldve traded him a year earlier when he heldout. But I see the Packers process and it makes sense. They bought Love another year of pressureless development and bought themselves another year of evaluation. It wasnt pretty for the salary cap, but I get it.
Hopper pick always gets brought up. I would have thought Packers would have went in other ares too. But football draft network had Hopper 41 overall for most of the draft season, then moved him to like 120ish before the draft. I'm surprised no one has has Ian Cummins on for an interview yet. Gb obviously is moving towards a shot gu approach to areas of need. Like draft up to 3 guys for 1 area.
My draft crush that year was Michael Pittman Jr. He's been a good but not great receiver for the Colts. The other player a lot of Packers fans liked at that spot was Patrick Queen, who was underwhelming his first two seasons but then turned it on last year.
Iirc GB also got a 2nd rounder for Favre, and they used that pick to trade back into the 1st round to get Clay Mathews. Lets hope the Rodgers trade also gets us another ring.
16:00 -- For the record, Tampa took OL Cody Mauch at #48 in 2023. He's been good for Tampa, but I don't think the Packers are losing any sleep over that one; O line (especially interior) wasn't high on Green Bay's list, and it's not clear he would've significantly moved the needle compared to what they had, certainly not anywhere near what Reed did for them. Plus, I think if they don't make the trade, they probably just take Reed at 48, so the only difference the trade made is that Green Bay also got the Brooks pick out of it.
I do think the only trade that didn't happen that could have been very interesting in so many regards was the DJ Moore trade. GB would have traded the 15th (possibly lower) pick which obviously would have thrown a little wrinkle in the Rodgers deal in maybe trying to reacquire a first. Does the team make the playoffs with Moore in 22? GB likely doesn't take Jayden Reed in 23 with DJ Moore on the roster, so do they still trade down and get the Wicks/Brooks picks? Does the team start as slow as they did in 2023 with Moore eating alot of targets early on as an established guy? How does it impact the Bears trade down with Carolina since there was a lack of DJ Moore? Chicago said a big reason they did it with Carolina was because of DJ Moore's involvement to get a guy for Fields. So does Chicago end with Caleb still? Its just a wild what-if storyline. Also, how dare you not talk about the corey bojorquez trade??
Everybody seems to forget rasul gave a locker room interview just before he was traded where he said something like he was a loser for the first time in his career, he didn't like being a loser but he didn't know how to fix it. You don't want talk like that in the locker room from a senior player i'm glad they traded him.
Trading Rasul was a direct message to the locker room that they better start figuring it out. And wouldnt you know, they started figuring it out. Hated losing Rasul, but the message was received.
Who knows if Waller and claypool would have turned out better if they were in Green Bay instead of with the bears and Giants two teams that do not have good coaching for offense nor do they have good quarterbacks. This is not me saying that I wish that we had them just giving the full side of things.
Rasul trade may have cost the Packers a Super Bowl. He was the play-maker in the defensive backfield. He knew the defense best, he alerted the young guys to what the offense was doing. He was the best student of the tape, and other guys looked up to him. Lets face it, Gutey at 2-5 gave up on the season, and this was a major blunder. The Davante trade was a mistake the year before, but it was complicated by Rodgers antics and lack of commitment, Davante indicated that his lack of faith in Love, Rodgers hesitancy, and his desire to play with his off-season workout partner Derrick Carr, on his favorite childhood team in the west close to his family, probably motivated him to leave.
I hear you but disagree. Rasul was becoming a problem in the locker room because of his outspoken disdain for Barry. Gute had to move him to save the locker room from splitting even more. This move also gave Valentine and Ballentine experience. We know they can play.
Also the Packers offered less money to Davante the whole time, then only matched the deal given by the Raiders. Proving to Davante they valued him less, while being able to say “we offered the same money” through their reporters.
@@jwestern6038 And yet the Raiders stink with Adams and the Packers are talking super bowl without him. Its almost like Adams isnt actually worth all that money (no receiver is) and Gute was right to not get bullied into paying him.

That's an interesting point I hadn't really thought about too much. Thanks!

Best Packers content out there. Thank you for doing God's work Andy. Listening to the Pack A Day Podcast has become a staple to my day.
I'm Gute's biggest fan, but that 3 year contract extension for Rodgers in 2022 still makes zero sense.

Tampa got Cody Mauch. He played over 1100 snaps at G and ended the year with a 44.7 PFF grade.

Im shocked he fell as far as he did. Butkus Award finalist with 4.49 speed falls to the late 3rd round? Sign me up.

Go Pack Go!
Any reason why you didn’t add in the Jaire trade? That draft maneuvering was a MasterClass as much as I was annoyed with it at the time.
Hard to mention #33 in this podcast. And I do not miss #12 at all.
Some of you guys are so ungrateful for everything Rodgers did for this organization it’s just sad
@@hobertrodric4440 Ungrateful? Heck no. Sad he succumbed to 'god complex"
We won every trade recently besides the Douglas.
They traded Rodgers a year too late but it worked in their favor.
I think if you add rasaul douglas to this team were competing for a superbowl for sure

Biggest trade in franchise history was for our favorite blue jeans model, no?
2022 Rodgers should have been traded and not given an extension. Jordan love could have missed the playoffs and had a great year to get experience
Is it better to front load or backload Jordan Love's contract?
My wife says front load is better but doesn’t mind a back load from time to time
Probably back load
All hail Gutenking.
imagine if the packers got the jets 1st round pick. so sad.
Things have turned out well but trading Rasul was a mistake, head scratcher.
