- Cranfield Lightning - T5 - XS458 1st Thunder Run 6 August 2011. A Big thank you to Russell Carpenter and crew for making this an enjoyable experience and an exciting day.
Just to see these beasts fly again
@Dave Kent One in America will
Never will here, CAA will not allow them too. 👎👎
Avon 300's started with Avpin, ( Isopropyl Nitrate.)...same as Canberra PR9...
My old friend used to work at Coningsby when the Lightnings were there. He said you could tell the Lightning ground crew because of the state of their berets which were always “distressed” from where they’d tried use them to put out AVPIN fires when that hateful fluid had been spilled or leaked then lit off spontaneously.
They need to do a better job of announcing these! I’d happily pay some money to watch it
i live a 5 min walk away, in 2 months they will be doing an engine test
On the leftside the tail, is that from 92 Sqd Gutersloh? Been there a lot in the early days with the "Silver" and blue tail Lightnings, great memories
Mom: We have MiG-21 at home.
The MiG-21 at home:
What has happened since anyone last posted here? Has the aircraft now been scrapped, sold to the usa, turned into a static exhibit or what? Anyone know?

Why not a fast taxi run...seems pointless..
Can't do that unless the aircraft is considered flight worthy. Looks better on the accident report.
