Excellent video! I go to WV whenever I can and have stayed at Smoke Hole, Seneca Rocks, and Canaan Valley. We're going to climb Chimney Top the third week in October hopefully seeing some falls colors. Your video helped me with the planning. Thanks.
My wife and I tried to hike to Chimney Top last week. We tried using the Landis Trail 502, but found out that it was to long of a hike to take to Chimney Top. I think the route you took is probably a better bet. We also found the Landis Trail to have lots of incline. I also would not recommend doing this hike in summer unless you can get a cool day. The bugs were bad and parts of the North Fork Mountain Trail were overgrown with shrubs and grass. Bring lots of water!!!
I hate it that you didn't get to Chimney Top! If it hadn't have been for Billy (the other guy in the video) I would have never found the side trail leading to Chimney Rock. It was one of my favorite hikes. Like I mentioned in the video, we hiked it in the early fall. The "bug" situation wasn't too bad except for a sweat bee hatch right on the chimney. I was hiking Spruce Knob-Seneca Creek during this time of year and was carried away by what I guess was horse flies. The video about it is somewhere in my West Virginia playlist. We made a lot of videos in some of the most amazing places in West Virginia. Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
That was absolutely beautiful. You and Billy are lucky to have found a wonderful hiking friend in each other. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us. Take care and God bless.
I did this trial last Halloween, pretty steep but it was worth it! I think it’s the best view of all in all my visits to West Virginia. God bless West Virginia.
That's awesome! Caroline and I were over in that area today. Did a little hike at Dolly Sods. Kind of chilly up there, bring a jacket! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!
It's worth it. If you plan for a few days you can hit Chimneys, Seneca Rocks, Dolly Sods, and Spruce Knob. It's all worth it! Driving from one location to another is awesome too! Thanks for watching! Bill
That would be a great place to camp! Is there water drinking water up there or did you all just bring it with you? We didn’t see anyplace to get water. Love Chimney Top! Thanks for watching and thanks for commenting!!
@@turtlecrawford6468 and that’s why I’ve haven’t considered camping up there l😂😂😂😂 I’m much too lazy for that. I’m interested in camping across the call at Dolly Sods, but it’s really soupy over there!
Not telling you what to do or anything I’d get there towards the beginning of October. One storm out there and fall is over. It’s happened to us a couple of times. It gets cold there quick! I’m hoping to get to Dolly Sods this fall. (Next mountain over)
I would like to thank you for doing the videos that you do. My name is Chuck I’m 46 years old. 20 years ago I used to do this same thing. But now I’ve got medical issues, like diabetes and neuropathy in my legs and feet. So it’s hard for me to even walk 20 yards on a road. So this will be my way Of seeing things that you are. And yes I am from West Virginia I live in Keyser.
Struggling with diabetes myself. If I don't lose some weight, it's gonna get worse! Thank you for watching and thanks for commenting! We're going to keep making videos as long as people are watching, so thank you so much! Bill
Thanks for watching and commenting! Sorry for the delay. Busy day! It's a 5 mile out and back trail. It's one of my favorite hikes in that region. Across the valley, it's completely different. It's compared to Canada. (I think I said that in the video, but I can't remember.) But North Fork Mountain (the mountain in this video) is different. You can hike the entire mountain too. But I'd hike Chimney Top, the drive across the valley to the other mountain (Plateau) and visit Dolly Sods, and do some hiking there too! Again, thanks for watching!
Do you have to climb up any rocks to get to the top? We just did Seneca Rocks and to go above the observation deck, you have to scale some rocks and I was pretty terrified, but I want to try Chimney Rock, too.
It's not that you have to, it's that you'll want to! (I hope that makes sense). I don't think it's as scary as Seneca Rocks, but that's just my opinion. Thanks for watching!
North Fork Trailhead. From what I can gather there are two trails. Coming from Smoke Hole, we parked at the first place on the right. But there's another place on down. I don't know which is better or worse or anything like that. Enjoy your hike!
@@BillMarion my day was amazing. 4 hours down on my motorcycle. 4 hours in the woods with breathtaking views. 4 hour ride home. Truly perfect. I met a bunch of fellow hikers on the way. Good times waz had by all.
the most awesomest views I have ever seen on one of your videos. was amazing. glad I didn't go to that Neil Diamond concert afterall
"Song sung blue...."
