  • *Update* the cause was the driver wire for fuel injector 6.... ran a new wire, working perfectly now, weird that it didn't show up in the continuity test or voltage test
    a video on how to change a fuel injector on a 2002 Dodge Caravan 3.3L. I'm not a licensed mechanic so this is for entertainment purposes.

    Fantastic! A big thank you to your daughter for the good camera work and a huge thank you to you. I have the identical van. Been chasing a hesitation gremlin for a week now. @ about 1800 rpm while driving it starts to shake and hesitate. Once I push past that, it's ok as long as the RPMs are high. I've changed the plugs/wires. No dice.

    fact that the BAT light on the dash comes on and then goes off as well as the one code stating the 5 volt supply is low, certainly wants me to check out all the wiring first before replacing such an expensive item. Thanks so much Steve, you have certainly ended my anxiety and now I can proceed to troubleshoot in a much more logical manner.

    I didn't have a fuel injection problem with my van at all, but thank you for the video, I watched for the sole reason that like you said, lack of video's on Dodge Caravan's, very informative, you pinpointed too many helpfull areas to list, bolt, computer, injector, hose, reservoir locations, harness connections... and camera operator was on top of it.. Thanks.

    Really only came here to see where the petrol/gasoline injectors actually are, since I've got 12 injectors on my Chrysler Voyager instead of the usual 6 (I've got 6 for petrol and 6 for LPG), but I never would have guessed they are under there. In the end I watched your entire video, because it helped me a lot to understand what's where. Thanks for that. 👍

    Nice vid, not many out there. Did this on my own without the vids...there isn't really a need to disconnect the fuel rail from the fuel line. I was able to swap out the injector seals and reseat, and continue on. Great vid!

    Hi, I just wanted to take a second to thank you and all who do these videos. Your videos are very thorough and great for a novice like me. I'm sure many others either forget or are in a rush or just don't know how, but all appreciate. Wish you had shown the back wire and plug removal so I could have had a better idea of how much will be involved. These videos are important and a tremendous help, especially in this bad economy where a great majority of one time middle income Americans, now working poor are doing work they never would have thought of doing 20 years ago to save a few bucks.....Keep em coming!!!

    Thank you for showing how to disconnect that electrical clip! I'm just starting to work on my "new" van (1996 GC) and those electrical clips have been driving me crazy trying to figure out how to get them apart. The trick for disconnecting the throttle cables was GOLD! Also how to "relieve pressure in fuel line" but hey, don't get that on your skin, might as well drink it. no bueno... anyways, really appreciate the DETAILED descriptions. If I knew how to do this I would n't be watching u-tube.

    This is one of the best how-to videos I have seen yet. Easy to understand, easy to follow, and makes a seemingly difficult repair job very simple. Thank you so much. I learned a lot from this video. Sometimes it is not about the video as much as being able to take what I learn from this video and apply it to a few other videos to make my trouble shooting my 2002 Grand Caravan Sport a lot more informed and knowing what to look for. This is association, and for which I will now tackle the job

    I have a '98 Chry. T&C AWD with 253,000 miles on it. Bought for $500, from salvage yard before it would have been titled as salvage, needed some repairs. Water pump, ignition module, tranny shift module, O2 sensor. I performed all the work, saved quite a alot of money. Had shop do wheel alignment. Latest MPG check old school method, not by the on board trip computer, divide miles traveled by fuel used resulting in 23.779 mpg. I am a happy driver! ;)

    Doing this now got one of these vans for free for the family. Not much on this van works or runs maybe someone just swapped the good for bad parts. This thing floods and won't start without holding the gas pedal down. I'm going to attempt to clean the existing injectors then replace as needed. Thanks for your video not so much the quality but so much your demeanor and explanation was easy to understand. New Update just replaced all injectors. Now to address low fuel pressure.

    I just completed mine today after receiving my fuel injectors. For whatever reason, my 06 did not have the fuel pressure release. Perhaps I missed you say something? I'm pretty tired lol. I do want to say, thank you so much for this video. It made it really easy to do. I can't even tell you the amount of things I've done to this van already by myself (definitely helps make it a bit easier I'd say). I'm not really sure what my issue is as it started around 160k miles. But my fuel mileage is horrendous. It was really good when I first got the van around 130k. I figured I'd just replace whatever I can that affects the MPG until it's fixed (hopefully). She deserves the new parts anyways. I love this van so much!!!

    This all points to a bad PCM. However, I found pink insulation jammed up under the plenum and around the injector wiring and around the injectors. Codes also set for Open #5 and Open #6 injectors. Mice may have chewed into the wires under the plenum. This video has shown me how to do the continuity checks from the PCM Wiring Connectors to the injectors by removing the plenum and how to do the resistance checks as well in this area. Also your update of bad signal wire proves I need to....

    0:10 My 2002 Grand Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6 was getting code P0206, I watch this video which was real good and led to
    do it, what I did first is that I only changed number 6 injector. That did not work still P0206, so I decided to change all six injectors but no change I also changed the injector wire harness before I did the testing. I tested the injectors ohms and all of them were 1.28/12.8 and the voltage was 12.4 Volts that meant they were ok but still had no pulse on that injector 6, (Use a long screwdriver to listen for pulse). After reading for a while came up with the PCM problem, that probably was the injectors drivers gone bad. After I pulled out the connector of the PCM there was a Black oil like liquid inside. But I decided to purchase a refurbish PCM, I put it on today and the problem went away. I would advice to check injector, do the testing with a multimeter and the connection of the PCM. In my case it was that Black oil that probably damage that part of the PCM injector drivers and cause the P0206, Well it surely work for me, Thanks for that Video help me a lot on dismounting and mounting again engine parts. Miles on VAN is 173300 miles.

    A few complaints here: As long as we're going through all of this work to actually get to the fuel injectors, why not take the time to clean them out as well? Obviously, due to the costs of new fuel injectors, most poeple won't be replacing all of them at once. Usually, when one has failed, the others aren't far behind the failed injector.

    I think that by taking off the fuse of the fuel system you relieve the pressure . For most cars anyways good video helped a bit I took off the black trim for more room space but I have a 2000 so a little different

    • @TheRealDarkbreeze
      @TheRealDarkbreeze 9 років тому +3

      Taking the fuse for the fuel system out does NOTHING with the fuel pressure, on ANY vehicle. The fuel system fuse stops the pump from running and maintaining pressure, but it does nothing to relieve the pressure that is already there. In some cases, removing the pump fuse and then cranking the engine WILL relieve SOME of the fuel pressure, as the injectors will bleed off pressure when they are energized by the PCM during cranking. The best method is to do as Steve has shown and manually relieve the pressure. This is the correct method.

    • @paulreed563
      @paulreed563 9 років тому +3

      +Leonard Ratliff Actually removing the relay / fuse is EXACTLY what you are supposed to do. The way the author does it in the video is absolutely the wrong way to do it - from a safety perspective.
      From the Chrysler FSM:
      STANDARD PROCEDURE - FUEL SYSTEM
      PRESSURE RELEASE PROCEDURE
      (1) Remove Fuel Pump relay from Power Distribution
      Center (PDC). For location of relay, refer to label
      on underside of PDC cover.
      (2) Start and run engine until it stalls.
      (3) Attempt restarting engine until it will no
      longer run.
      (4) Turn ignition key to OFF position.
      (5) Return fuel pump relay to PDC.
      (6) One or more Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC’s)
      may have been stored in PCM memory due to fuel
      pump relay removal. The DRB IIIt scan tool must be
      used to erase a DTC.

I drove the van a few more miles, and the check engine light came on, van began to barely run. The Bat light came on, yet the alternator was putting out. Had Autozone check the alternator, check out OK. Day before no codes set. Rechecked after check engine light came on. Found 17 codes set, mostly low inputs and low 5v supply

    Continuity test the harness from the end where it plugs into PCM make sure all injector wires power up and any that injector that doesn't power up then the PCM is the problem for sure Ebay sells the PCM but they require all your Vehicles info so they can Re-flash software to new PCM can work on your vehicle new PCM from EBAy around $150-$180 injectors are easy to clean with carburetor cleaner and saves money reusing old ones they are loads of VDOs on You tube to show how to clean Injectors hope this helps. What do you think caused the wire harness to fail on these vehicles? Could back firing damage wire harness say if timing is off a little.

    • @steve45ca
      @steve45ca  10 років тому +2

      no, the heat of the engine and the wires getting too hot is the culprit, usually the harness melts where it wraps around the head.

    Fantastic video ... and I have the same problem ... with injector 6 ... going to try access the wiring harness without pulling everything... if you are still following this thread, how far back from the injector was the break, or do you even know... Did you spice onto the wire at either end, or did you replace wire and connectors at either end... ? ? ? Well done... great video..

    Just in case someone with a 3.0L Voyager/Caravan comes across this video, it is v.v.v.v.v.v. important that you replace all the fuel injector-to-fuel rail retainers whenever you service the injection system! Moreover, if you choose to install the yellow Ford Explorer injectors that are available for the Chrysler 3.0L motor, be sure to also install pintles on them because they dont come with them! I accidentally totaled my Plymouth Voyager last month due to fuel related fire, so I know better :[

    just a subjestion u checked contuinity but what if it was grounding elsewhere at the same time i would recommend getting something such as a powerprobe to check for grounds with the harness off just to triple check and make sure u got no other shorts to geounds else where

    Hi Steve and everyone that subscribes to his posts.I just bought a 1996 Dodge Caravan with the 3.0 liter SOHC V6 Mitsubishi. I just paid $285.00 to have the injector replace,but the engine is missing badly when I drive it. I am not a mechanicley inclined. What should I look at first? Thanks

    wait... I was always taught you disconnect the negative terminal of the battery

    • @rickanderson8088
      @rickanderson8088 4 роки тому

      It really doesn't matter, as long as you disconnect one of the two there will be no power from the battery. Usually I see the recommendation to disconnect the ground, but some believe the positive is better. Regardless, if either one is disconnected, electricity will not flow from the battery.

    Thank you for this video, we took it all off easy and now are replacing all of the injectors. Three of the small little caps were broken so my question is can they be replaced ? Just the caps? and if so, how do we find them to buy?

    • @steve45ca
      @steve45ca  Рік тому

      I don't know if the caps are available by themselves. Cheers

    Also tested all the fuel injectors and cleaned it with carburetor fluid and test each one of them work with no problem so I know it's not the fuel injectors themselves
