Celisse is Lizzo's guitarist and also plays with Jon Batiste. You can see her in his Tiny Desk Concert. PLUS, she is an OG student of one of your "co-workers" Marty Schwartz! Truly a gifted musician, love her work!
Have to add how much I LOVE the way she uses her voice as the "lead instrument" when she does that run in the higher notes -- does just a beautiful job using her voice as the lead guitar, saxophone, or whatever else could have gone there.
The best thing about the whole UA-cam phenomenon is we get to see all these people that throw us a curve ball with what we expect based on appearance, the rig they paly and so on. Im not at all a huge jazz fan and this feels that way to me but she has something we all should appreciate and her technique is really nice.
didn't expect too much about it but fortunately I was proved wrong... this is the way that works for me, nothing flashy or over the top, but organic and raw... feeling and musicality always beats fakery and showing off
Michael. Love your channel. (Particularly liked the recent first lesson video. He was soo good). Thanks for introducing me to Celisse. Not heard of her before but I will check her out. I will say I can’t watch your video without you reminding me of Lance Armstrong! (That’s an intended compliment)
Absolutely fantastic. As much as I love your vids for the guitar insight it's also a great opportunity to discover something new. Michael you looked a little worried, running out of fretboard following that vocal. 🤣. Keep them coming chief
I've seen and heard a few songs by her. She's the real deal. So happy for you to see her -- and of course the other excellent acts -- at Playing In The Sand soon. Really cannot wait to hear your reaction to the whole experience. Enjoy, Michael!
Love your reactions, hoping one day you can react to a highly underrated Canadian 3 piece band called Triumph, recommend Lay it on the Line from the US festival in 83. Rik Emmitt and the whole band are very talented. You could actually do any song from the set, they are 🔥🔥🔥.
I would kill for a video on Jeff Loomis. I think he's the most underrated guitar player out there. His band Nevermore and his solo albums had some really great songs. They have a song off their 2005 album "This Godless Endeavor" called Psalm of Lydia which has 6 (yes 6, the intro, the acoustic solo, and the 4 solos in the main solo is the two guitarists going back and forth) in under 5 minutes, it's a really killer guitar song with some really neat riffs. I've spent literally months getting my sweeping up fast enough to play the intro solo (maybe I'm a slow learner). I think you'd really appreciate it and give some love to a guy who doesn't get enough. ua-cam.com/video/oqag2lXDmgY/v-deo.html
