The way the movie portrays Andy's escape, and the downfall of Warden Norton, is so much better than the book.

    • @user-lb9xw4xf2q
      @user-lb9xw4xf2q 2 місяці тому +20

Plus, the book had multiple wardens during Andy's time, but by using one, it helped establish a solid consistent antagonist authority figure that could also have more impactful emotional pay offs by his defeat.

    • @IDiggPattyMayonnaise

Books are always better. They have unlimited pages to be as descriptive as they want. Movies have a finite time to get the reaction they want from the audience and depending on the director/writers they interpret what think is the best. So far not a lot of examples of it paying off. Best example are the Harry Potter books. They have more characters, backstories, and plot lines than the movie possibly had time to include, which were essentially to the final battle. And the final movie fight was just God awful compared to the book.

    • @MegaForrestgump

@@IDiggPattyMayonnaise this is a book that pales in comparison to the movie. The novella is only 110 pages long.

my son and I met Clancy Brown after leaving a Capitol 6 movie theater in Vancouver back in the late 90's.....
he saw me recognize him, so I nodded, and turned to my son (who hadn't recognized him, yet) and said.....
"we haven't seen him since he was sobbing like a little girl."
they both laughed and Mr. Brown offered his hand to my son who was just 8 years old at the time, saying, "you watched The Shawshank Redemption?"
while my son was nodding, I said, "yah, I didn't think he was old enough to see you in Bad Boys yet"..... and he smiled again..... really cool dude..... imdb like War and Peace.

As great as this resolution was of Hadley and Norton getting theirs, it is nothing compared to Red and Andy’s reunion on that beach.
Andy: “Hope is a good thing…maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies.”
Red: “I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope…”
That ending is soul stirring. 😢

There are several possible reasons for the film's initial failure at the box-office.
    1. "Forrest Gump" and "Pulp Fiction" were dominating theaters that year
    2. Audiences were increasingly attracted to "action" films
    3. The lack of any female characters in the film.
    4. The film's title was seen as clunky and unattractive.
    5. Prison films typically do not attract large audiences
    6. Overall poor marketing of the film
Thanks to the many Academy Award nominations and home video/cable TV, the film has made a LOT of money. The actors are still receiving big income from the residuals, thanks to the constant playing of the film on television.
