I find these excessively expensive considering you can get the Ikea Shortcut buttons that work with home kit for less than $10 a piece

I've been using these since the Flic 1. My wife and I have it setup for when her boyfriend comes over, he pushes a button and all the lights turn red, so I know not to disturb their fun time. It also automatically turns on my Baby Yoda lamp and starts up Disney+ automatically. Keeps everyone happy!

Fantastic video, Brad! I really am surprised at how reliable these buttons are, especially working over Bluetooth. Good stuff!

Great video, Brad. I felt the same way as others about the excessive pride of these buttons. But, once again, you get what you pay for. I have about 10 Flic2 buttons throughout my house, including 2 hubs (my outside office was just a bit too far).
It’s funny how everyone who uses these buttons comments on how good the press feels. It’s true. It’s also true these buttons make several SmartHome tasks wife friendly. I recently added Eve SmartPlugs to all of my A/V equipment as these draw a ton of electricity when they are theoretically off. However, this frustrated everyone else and telling them the Siri commands to turn everything on did not go over well. Now, each room with a TV has a flic button and they all work the same way: single press = AppleTV and TV on, Double = all A/V on, and long press to turn it all off. I also turn all of these off in my goodnight scene. Now, everyone uses the buttons regularly.
I also use them in the laundry room to set timers that announce something is done over the HomePods and in my office to control various scenes for client calls, vendor calls, and “Interrupt away: I’m just working on deliverables” scenes.

I have these and they’re great! Even more so for kids to control their lights in their bedrooms. Set for a dimmer light in the morning when waking up, full on for during the day, and the final long press to shut down lights and keep a nightlight/LED strip on at a low level.

Can this work without using a Flic hub... just an iPhone or iPad and a HomePod mini?

I have a couple Hue buttons and an Eve one for controlling non-Hue lights but these do seem cool. My issue is that they require a separate hub but still use Bluetooth. Not sure why they can’t just connect via Bluetooth to your home hub like Eve’s button does.

Hi Brad, can you setup a flic button as a doorbell in HomeKit to make a sound through a HomePod? Love the channel, thanks

  • @m.j.r.technologyreveiws1075

Caseta Pico remotes can do all this with Homebridge and the Caseta bridge, and 1 Pico has 5 usable buttons for the price of a 1 button Flic and uses ClearConnect to the bridge.

how did you add your bathroom exhaust fan to homekit?

    • @Dr_Cole

You can do it as a wall switch that controls the fan or there are SmartHome enabled bathroom fans now.

The hub(s) expense on top of the buttons themselves is way too high a barrier to entry. They need to make a Matter over Thread version.
