Dora I just wanted to say how much your journey has helped me. I illiberally got everything you got for recovery and I’m day 5 post op double jaw surgery!!! This is the worst thing I have ever experienced but it’s going to be so worth it in the end!!!! I hope your doing better now it’s driving me NUTS not to blow my nose but I’m making it Thankyou again girl for sharing your journey it’s helped me soooooo much❤
I’m actually 9 months post-op as of right now! But I totally agree! by week 6 I was nearly back to normal. By the sound of things, I assume your surgery went well, and I’m so glad of that! A tough, positive mindset like that is what carried me through recovery. I encourage you to keep it up! :)
Just had mine done, double jaw and genioplastry, I’m on day 5 post op, worst week of my life so far I’ve had about 3 milkshakes for food in that entire time still can’t feel my chin at all, completely numb but I guess it’s all worth it in the end
It totally IS worth it!! Before you know it, you’ll be chewing again. Take things one day at a time and remain goal oriented. I was just like that on Day 5 too - no feeling in my chin. IT GETS BETTER THOUGH I PROMISE. I’m praying for a speedy recovery for you!
I’m so glad you feel okay, I need to go for it. Who was the surgeon you selected? Is there any insurance plan they do accept? I’m in Virginia , please let me know Thankyou
@@innocentwhite2775 My surgeon was Dr. Robert Mower in Valencia, California. I was advised to get insurance through anthem blue cross, which covered nearly my entire surgery cost. However, depending on where you get the surgery, you would want to inquire and research which insurance would work best for you. Best of luck!!
I was told 2+ years ago before I can even get braces I need SARPE Jaw Surgery ! Not in a position to do it now , ZERO support and a ton on me. But researching , tons of prayer 🙏🏻 and watching things like this to prepare. Mine is a birth defect because my mother didn’t get enough Vitamin D & K2 in pregnancy…..plus my mother ISNT entirely to blame , she wasn’t healthy herself to have kids, my brothers and I, but her biological mother didn’t care for herself in pregnancy with my mother drinking Coke and eating bad and my mother has suffered 73 years due to this, and in a sense so have I.
i’m on day 3 now, and so far it’s been better ever since. the first day was fine, the second was awful. blood was dried up in my nose and i couldn’t cough. then the next day they told me i had a collapsed lung. so now i’m staying another night in the hospital.
@@yelenatersargsyan2899 i think it’s pretty uncommon but i had mucus in my throat and i couldn’t cough, and when i breathed in you could hear my throat was clogged. so i was only able to clear my throat. i told them and the next day they gave me a chest xray and told me my left lung had collapsed on the bottom. all i needed to do was cough, take deep breaths, get up and walk around the hospital, and then breath through a device a couple times as an exercise for my lungs. so after that i was okay. just a minor issue
I had double and the chin. After week 2 I was all good but the numbnesss. Took me two months for top lip to unfreeze, bottom still a bit numb 6 months later
You have my sympathies... I hope you are in a better place now. I am recovering from single-jaw surgery at the time of this writing. Movies like The Martian and Dune have kept me entertained.
@@dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney thanks! I'll keep you posted. I'm about a week post surgery and I'm able to move around now that I'm able to eat soup and mashed potatoes
I'm actually at day 3 post-op, I had a lower jaw surgery + genioplastry (and also got my wisdom teeth removed at the same time). It's quite hard to undergo. left part of my lower lip and my chin are completely numb, I'm just wondering how much time it will take me to feel them again. the hardest parts are my appetite (I don't wanna drink anything but at the same time I'm craving food so bad) and also my saliva, I produce too much but I can't swallow it so I juste have to spit it I guess. I'm also at my swelling peak. Hope I will get better overtime
Hey there! From my experience, I probably started to notice some tingling in my chin and lip starting at the 3 or 4 week mark, which went on for an additional month or two before I could truly say, “I have my feeling back.” It will come back though. It’s just a process, as your nerves have to awaken and sometimes regrow in those areas. Tingling will always be a good sign though. When it comes to the food, I know it can be so tricky. The first few days, I just got by from drinking juice. As long as you’re getting plenty of water, at the very least, then it’s okay that you can’t make yourself drink actual sustenance. And remember that healing isn’t linear! Sometimes you may drastically improve, and then it’ll be followed by a regression, but it’s all normal! Keep your focus on the end result, and keep your body moving (go for at least a half mile walk a day, outside, if you can). I found that moving my body helped my healing to accelerate drastically. Praying for you and your recovery 🙏🏼
Hey again, I was curious if you had an update! Would love to hear how you’re doing now with your appetite and, honestly, everything 😄 I’m hoping for the best for you!
@@dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney Hey there, I totally forgot it lmao So here's my update : My infection was gone by the end of week 1 post-op, which is a good point because the oveproduction of saliva I had just stopped. My swelling went down pretty quickly after its peak, and now I'm almost completely deflated (My jaw isn't completely defined yet though, and my chin is still a bit swollen because of the genioplastry). I transitioned to soft food such as steam cooked vegetables (that I crush with a fork because I still can't completely chew) or mashed potatoes, and I try to chew my food step by step. However my recovery has slowed down because I just went to my surgeon's today and he told me to put elastics on my braces, which hurts bad and doesn't allow me to open my mouth as much as I want, so I basically just have to keep eating soft food for like a week or two. But in general I recovered quite quickly, so it's way better than I expected before my surgery. The only bad part is that I still can't feel my bottom lip or the left part of my chin, I keep tickling but I think it will take a while before the nerve recovers from the osteotomy. But as I said, I'm recovering quite fast and I'm happy with the results so yeah cheers lmao
The mouthwash and brushing my teeth is definitely the worse. When my surgeon's dental assistant brushed my teeth in the back for the first time, it was so painful I started crying.
Also, seems like the walks really helped with the swelling! I am glad I watched your video because I have been afraid of cleaning my face, but also don't want to break out.
I’m so glad that you’re nearly at the the 12 month mark. I hope your recovery picked up after this video was made. Thanks for taking us on your journey. Is the taste/smell bad on your breath when you can’t properly wash or slosh mouthwash.
My recovery definitely did pick up!! Things have been smooth sailing since the 6 week mark :) YES, the taste of my breath was HORRIBLE for the first few weeks. My top jaw/pallet was widened, leaving a ton of scar tissue forming and floating around inside my mouth. And since I couldn’t open my mouth, I couldn’t spit any of it out 🫠 on day 7 though, that was when I first tried opening my mouth and spitting stuff out, and the knowledge that I could do that helped tremendously in keeping my mouth clean thereafter. But I was never fully able to clean my mouth until the splint came out on week 5, so you can probably imagine just how gross things would get at that point, even with brushing my teeth 😆
Congrats on making it to the two week mark! I would definitely suggest that you take thing one day/week at a time and celebrate every little accomplishment of healing. It IS hard, and every bit of healing IS a big deal. I also would suggest that you keep your body moving (ex:short 10-20 minute walks) to not only keep you distracted/busy, but also to speed up the recovery process. Wishing you all the best & praying for you!
I’m on day 5 and go bless my mother. I know she’s just trying to feed me but for the love of god I cannot open my mouth let alone chew. Can I get syringes?😭😭😭😭😭😭what happened to a fluid diet.? I’ve been eating pap since I left the hospital I’m sick of it. My jaw hurts and I really don’t know how to make them understand that. Chiles
For me it’s so hard to feed myself. I can’t find a Little spot :( and My splint always fills in with food, My face muscles are tired From sucking liquid diet.. What am I doing wrong? On the right side doesn’t enteres at all…
How many days along are you? If you don’t already have any, I would suggest squeeze bottles with a curved end! That way you can squeeze the liquid into your mouth, giving your facial muscles a break.
Hi Anisha! Would you mind describing your situation a little more to me? Do you have a splint in your mouth right now that is covering your teeth? Or, perhaps, are you trying to say that your lips won’t move when you try to show off your teeth? For me, I had a splint covering my top teeth for the first 5 weeks post-op. If you’re a similar case, then that’s would I would imagine it’s like for you, but please correct me if I’m wrong!

Hi there I'm new with your channel, and it inspires me to undergo with double jaw surgery. May I ask how much is the total cost of the surgery and which hospital? Thank you so much and have a great day!
Hello RJ! I’m so glad to hear that! I personally made sure to get an incredibly good insurance for the year I was to undergo djs, so that they would cover the cost. The surgery was supposed to cost approximately $50,000. But because of my insurance, we only had to pay $500 a month for 12 months, and just a few hundred dollars on the day of surgery. For a total of about $6,100. Such a good price compared to $50,000!! As for my hospital, it’s not that I can recommend the hospital to you, but rather, the surgeon. My surgeon was Dr. Robert Mower who works at the SCV Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Center in Valencia, California. His work was and is tremendous!! I wish you luck on your own journey!
Yes! I found myself experiencing uncomfortable to mildly painful muscle spasms in my jaw, as my nerves and muscles were attempting to “wake up,” in a sense. No TMJ, but my jaw would get tired if I talked too much within a day - but even then, that was my muscles tiring out, not my jaw.
Sorry, I should have clarified in my original message - Yes, it goes away! I experienced the bulk of it between month 1 & 2, and then only occasionally in month 3. Sometimes I would find my teeth or muscles to be extra sensitive in the third month, but it wouldn’t last very long. And all of this was gone by the fourth month :)
Oh my goodness congrats! (on the surgery, not the mouthwash) How did your surgery go?! I’m currently 9 months post-op, but even now looking back, that mouthwash seriously was the worst part of my recovery. How are you holding up? I’d love to hear all about it :)
