My husband was pre diabetic and couldnt eat carbs in the USA. When we were in Italy he ate bread, pizza, pasta and didn't feel bad. They use fresh, good quality ingredients in Italy.
I hear that a lot from people and in fact I was gluten free in the US but I cna eat it here no problem. I think the American food supply is so toxic that people come here and they immediately start getting healthier.

HI Anamaria! Mola is about 3.5 hours for Praia a Mare by car. It takes longer by train because it is not a straight shot. Than you for the kudos on the property tours! I love Pete''s drones too!

All the points you've raised are what I think about and consider constantly in terms of choosing a place. As you have said, It's extremely important to think of the future and not just the 'now'. The town and home I choose will one day become my teenager daughters home when I pass, so I need to choose a place where she will be happy to live and call home. Mola, Sorrento and Manfredonia top my list for now but I still have 2 more years to research. Thanks for sharing!!

It's interesting when you mentioned the Italians reaction to drunkenness or public drunkenness. In 2001, just before the 9/11 I was traveling in Ireland and met up with two young Italian travelers, appx mid 20s. We were hanging out, and having a good time but the dynamic changed when we went to an Irish pub - how shocking - an I had a few beers. I rarely drank back then, nevertheless, their attitude completely changed towards me after I had 3 or 4 beers max and I always wondered about that. After watching this video I understand. As an American, I think my generation (boomer/ Generation x) going out and drinking with your male peers was a sign of friendship and trust. And of course life here in USA is tougher than Italy, so it's also a form of refuge with friends. So I did look at these Italian guys kinda as chumps after that, especially since I had gone out of my way for them, even taking their portraits on my 4x5 film camera. ) I later discovered via ancestry testing I'm 2/3 British Isles so I definitely favor American British sensibilities. There's no perfect retirement home, but if I could afford it, id retire here in California. The other thing I realize is that North America (particularly USA and Canada) have some of the most beautiful nature in the world. I.m still searching for a good place to retire in Europe - just in case.
Yes it is a cultural thing. It is very different in England and America where alcohol is widely promoted. Good luck with your search. I am sure you will find the best place for you!

the information on the weather is useless, one outlet says it's hot and dry in the south, humid in the north. The next website says it's humid everywhere in Italy. I've been many places from Rome north, and can attest to the humidity there, but what's it like in the south?
Well, when you are closer to the sea it gets more humid. The mountains are a bit dryer and cooler. It seems t me that Puglia is marginally less humid than Calabria but once you head south, anything along the sea will be hot and humid in Summer. That said it is not lie Florida which is like a sauna on the surface of the sun. Come check it out!! Bring your bathing suit!

I have loved the health care I have received here. I think it is very high quality. .I paid out of pocket as I do not have my health card yet however it was very inexpensive compared to the US and so so so so much better than what I have in California.

My Italian is not bad, I have live in Western Europe, and I am well aware of the prices in that area. What I am really concerned about is the migrants issue.
