今日茶席，第265席【鷹乃學習】
小暑第三候，梅雨溼悶，苦夏難熬。中國古稱這一候為：“鷹始鷙”。鷙是兇猛之意，一種說法是，由於天氣悶熱，猛禽受不了地面的高溫，往往高飛來散失熱量解暑。古人認為此時人會因氣候而急躁、好鬥。日本明治維新雖然廢除了中國農曆，這一候卻仍沿用《禮記》中的說法，稱之為“鷹乃學習”。過去有“曬伏”的說法，說是這個季節正好要晾曬書籍、衣物。潮溼無法曬書，入鄉隨俗，改品茶讀書。“鷹始鷙”說的是人在江湖中的躁氣，“鷹乃學習”卻顯得動中有靜。調心還是讀書，養性之餘，培養眼光，無論觀人還是察物。

🍵今日の茶席　第265回【鷹乃学習】🍵
小暑の第三候です。梅雨で蒸し暑く、耐え難い夏です。中国ではかつてはこの候を「鷹始鷙」と呼んでいました。
「鷙」とは「獰猛」という意味で、一説では蒸し暑さのせいで地表の高温に耐えかねた猛禽が体温を逃して暑さから逃れるために高い空へと飛ぶのだと言われています。
この時期には気候のせいで人々はせっかちで攻撃的になると昔の人は考えていました。
日本では明治維新を機に旧暦が廃止されましたが、「礼記」の記述に従ってこの候は「鷹乃学習」と呼ばれていました。かつては「晒伏」という表現も使われていて、書籍や衣類を日干するのに最適な季節だと考えられていました。
じめじめしていて書物を干すどころではありませんね。郷に入っては郷に従って、お茶と読書をすることにします。
「鷹始鷙」は江湖の人たちのせっかちさを表現していますが、「鷹乃学習」は動きの中の静けさが現れていますね。
心を整えるには、読書をして人格を養うだけではなく、人や物を見る目も養う必要がありますね

It is the third peropd of 小暑/Xiaoshu. It is the rainy season, and the summer is humid and unbearable. In China, this season used to be called 鷹始鷙(literally meaning ”hawks begin to be ferocious”).
"鷙" means "ferocious", and one theory is that birds of prey, unable to bear the high temperatures on the ground due to the humidity, fly up into the sky to escape the heat and release their body heat.
People in the past thought that the weather made people impatient and aggressive during this time of year.
In Japan, the lunar calendar was abolished with the Meiji Restoration, but this season was called “鷹乃学習(hawks’ learning) according to the description in the 礼記. The expression 曬伏 was also used in the past, and it was thought to be the perfect season to dry books and clothes in the sun.
It's so humid that it's no time to dry out books. When in Rome, do as the Romans do, and I'll have tea and read.
"鷹始鷙" expresses the impatience of people of the world, but “鷹乃学習” shows stillness amidst movement.
To calm the mind, it's not just about reading and cultivating one's character, but also about cultivating the ability to observe people and things.
