I miss the small trucks we had in the 70s in the 80s. Even Tacomas are too high & big.
They should be Legal at all times. American Car Manufacturers should be building and selling to the American People. There's a Gas Shortage. Perfect example of the Government destroying the Country saying "We are here to help you"
Japanese people are shorter and slimmer than tall wide americans, thats why manufacturers in the USA dont want to build small trucks like this.
@@educated_guess I think it has to do with Collision Integrity. US Standards say a Car has to have so much strength to protect the Passengers, but you can ride a Motorcycle...
@@educated_guess that doesn't make any sense, I'm a Chinese born in america.
@@educated_guess How about if american manufacturers just brought back trucks they used to make in the 90s. If the environment is so important why are cars/trucks getting bigger and heavier with every new model?
@@educated_guess more like automakers don't want to, because they care about profit more than anything else.
The Honda Acty Street!
Japan's vehicle inspection (i.e. SHAKEN 車検) is the toughest and most expensive in the world. All vehicles have to pass a government safety and emission test every 2 years to be driven in Japan. It's why JDM car imports are generally in good conditions, and are imported by many countries from Russia to Africa. (The ones that are not road-safe don't make it to the auction and are used for spare parts or scrapped in Japan.)
As for Kei-Trucks imported to the US, they re purchased through car auctions in Japan at low prices because people in Japan don't buy 25 year-old vehicles unless they're special cars like GTR, Celica, Civic Type R, Supra, etc. The import/custom/shipping cost is usually more expensive than the vehicle price in Japan.
Who remember “Suzuki jeeps” I had ‘em in the 80s
Thank you for sharing about small trucks..
Now I want one
Honda Acty Mini Van driver right here !! 😇
I am puzzled why US automobiles do not build cars and pickups these small, even if there's demand for it.
Instead they made their cars and pickups bigger to skirt through government regulations.
The ranger exists
25 Yr Old Used Japanese truck is always better than American made truck in Detroit
Still safer than motorcycles and mopeds.
That's the best for Hawaii small island should have smaller vehicles, come on now with the safety I mean people from the past have been driving without this high tech safety technology and the result people are more responsible in driving but the reason really to buy this kind of vehicle is the fuel economy, ordinary people are tight right now please understand
I seen some nice custom k trucks in japan
You be stylin' in a kei-class
To DOT The trucks are being bought because you DOT have not done it. They get great mpg and are useful.
Japan had the right idea America not so much.
$6500 is a lot of money to pay for a 30 year old truck that has little power.
You don't need a lot of power to move around islands. Especially in these times that fuel prices are skyrocketing.
25 years? That's a lot a depreciation for the trucks. You have to do a lot of repairing for the old truck.
Japanese vehicles are quite tough, especially those built in the 80s and 90s.
Wonder if there are a supply of 25 yr. old vehicles with low mileage ? Starting to see original Mini Coopers, with 12" tires. From NZ.
There cool, but don't get into an accident. You know what I mean? Yeah. You'd be history! Aloha
People want these! Small cars like these should be an option in the U.S.
Honda civic?
new civic is too big

I'd take the savings over safety right now
Saftey 1st
what about motorcycles?, ban them before you ever ban a 4 wheel vehicle. Mom was a trauma nurse and the amount of motorcycle deaths from minor accidents was insane.
Just ask.
Treat Williams.
Most of the trucks seen here are the honda ACTY with a 3 cylinder E0 series engines produced from 88-21. Parts are plentiful for these shipped, because this is a utility vehicle in Asia. Similar to trying to get parts for a US domestic that shares parts with multiple bodys. Here in Cali they aren't legal for freeway use, but some people put 1000cc motorcycle engines in them, and they start flying.
Interesting. I guess once imported, any engine you desire could be installed.
Bruh Hawaii should’ve had these way back in the days. US lame af with this import rule. And 6500?? You can bring in your own straight from Japan for 2-3k instead of buying it from some US dealer with Mark ups on a 25 year old 3 cylinder car
What website or broker are you using for that price? Right now the shipping costs alone are just around $1200+
My Truckolla is more reliable & has better AC. $6500 is kinda pricey for a dinky old car. I bet Auto Zone doesn’t have parts too.
@@markpang8847 i was thinking the same thing. Shipping has got to be $1200 - $1500. That means this person is estimating the truck is a $1000-$1500 truck.
Small truck = big ....
Dumb?
I want a Ute.
That does not make any sense that it has to be older. So they making u wait longer if u want to save money. Something is wrong.
Federal anti-competition laws.
Stupid laws hurting the competitive market. How do you think they can charge so much for cars that aren't worth what they are charging?
Mercades Benz lobbied to have the 25 year rule decades ago to help them compete for sales in the US market.
When the Government starts talking about regulation it means they want to start collecting taxes and fees! They will find a way to get their money from people buying these truck one way or another!
No emissions control or Safety
Cheap. Would love to buy a bigger truck but can't afford to. What would it take to get it through your thick head. We just need basic transportation. Even used unreliable cars are price out of range. Like everything else in Hawaii.
Rather have Chinese EV. Those old petro vehicles are very polluting and not efficient. Japan must be so happy to recycle those to foreign land with profits.
dude they have super small scooter engines how would that pollute
It’s a 25 plus year old vehicle THAT YOU CANT GET PARTS FOR AND VERY FEW MECHANICS WILL EVEN THINK ABOUT WORKING ON. Buying one of these IS STUPID!!!!
Jax k truck sales has parts
WHERE IS THAT??????
these old truck are very easy to work on comparied to the new trucks with a ton of electronics. Old trucks the owners can easily work on with a service manual book VS a new truck where you need a computer program to diagnose the issue. most people dont have this computer diagnosis computer program because it's very expensive so they have to go to the dealership for maintence which is very expensive. These old trucks are a much better financial option save money on gas & save money on fixing them.
YOU CANT FIND PARTS!! Friends already dealing with this issue and they’re sorry they bought the damn things. A mechanic won’t work on It if they can’t get parts. It’s THAT SIMPLE!!!

YOU CANT GET PARTS FOR THEM
It is tricky, but you can if you know where to look or import from Japan.
Gay
We know u are
@@ClarkKent-tg6ls you must drive one😂
he’s probably not from Hawaii 🙃
