James Brown OK let me start by explaining the video to you, as it is apparent that you and many others here are missing the point. Its a joke. Its is a video done for the sake of humor. When people employ humor one avenue is hyperbole or exaggerating the truth. The protagonist here is playing the part of a Jersey boy guido meat head. This is not a video meant to be taken seriously as a work out instructional. One of the exaggerations here was that "using the Smith at all" was un manly or a rookie mistake. You, James Brown, as well as others expressed the same feeling as real, not a joke. There is a grain of truth in everything this guy says, but its a grain not a mountain. I do not disagree with your argument about the superiority of free weights such as the bench press for strength conditioning and overall "health". I would agree that the only utility of the Smith is in bodybuilding programs and potentially for individuals with injuries. I take exception to those here including yourself who have proposed that this guy is not joking and there is really NO ROLE for the Smith whatsoever. If you truly believe that you are either ignorant or like the character in the video an insecure "guido" type who only does manly exercises, and as such u likely drive an obnoxiously loud and overly large truck as those two often go hand in hand. I do not recommend the Smith to anyone just starting out, and I believe it has pretty much 0 utility in power lifting or strength conditioning. One other use for the smith is training through a rotater cuff injury, often times depending on the injury free bench or shoulder press is impossible yet light smiths can be done to prevent atrophy. There is a reason that you will find at least one smith machine in every single gym in the world that has a reasonable amount of equipment and most big gyms have several. I have lifted for 32 years now and never missed more then 3 weeks time at any stretch of that through Medical School residency, marriage, children a ruptured quad muscle and a ruptured bicep as well as every other run of the mill health issue. +Herman Garcia I had to wait for a squat rack to open up for nearly 30 mins after i did my Dl's. Dude was doing shoulder press and shrugs all the other racks were being occupied by actual lifters. PLEASE GTFO of the squat rack if you are not squatting.
I hate "squat rack curlers" at my gym, especially since these are the guys that think they're curling 135lbs but they're really just keeping their arms at a 90 degree angle and swinging them back and forth.
ahmet memo Been lifting for about 2 years and there are 2 annoying weirdos who curl in the squat rack. One is some pakistanian/iraq/afghanistan/middle eastern guy who has the most annoying grunt and seems to decrease in weight that he's lifting every week, then there's an old black guy who has the horrible form that I've been talking about.
I go to gym regularly and as you guys know the New Year has just recently begun. Well anyway I was working out and about to squat 190 (my reg), I was setting my weights up and a group of boys (rookies) were closing in on me trying to 'help' me if I gave out. I was so pissed off, these boys NEWCOMERS were trying to help me out! I saw their benches and curls, they wouldn't have helped with anything. Anyways I hate people that underestimate me at the gym.
After having been going to the gym regularly for over a year now, I can honestly say that pretty much everything in this video is true and legitimately helpful, especially the first couple of minutes.
now i might just be shitting all over a dick, but i read somewhere that blender balls are insanely bad for you because of all the built up bacteria it eventually carries, what do i care i only swim bro
I saw one of my brothers lifting buddies at the gym on legs day... I walked up behind him curling in the squat rack. He dropped the barbell and was like "Please don't tell your brother about this!!!! I swear this is the last time I use the squat rack to do curls!!" The look on his face was priceless. I took a picture of him and sent it to my brother. Needless to say my brother no longer has a lifting buddy...
Theres no argument here. 22 years of lifting experience. 5lb can mean the difference between a successful lift and a failed lift. 5lb can make deference in getting a set weight x 12 vs x 13/14. Ive been there. Ive seen tons of others there over the years. To simply dismiss 5lb as completely insignificant or to look down on someone that puts that on the bar or stake is the most "bro" thing i ever heard.
There’s a guy at my gym that benches with his feet in the air. He’s also wearing Birkenstocks. And also has at least 1 set of DBs to use while he’s resting on the bench.
i randomly thought of this guys vids i first seen them when i was 14 when i started weight training in HS crazy to come back 10 years later to see these! still mad funny! W vid
Thumbs up for the video. There is a reason to use fractional plates, however - linear progression strength training programs may have you add weight every workout, or every week, until you fail.
I kind of disagree with the 2.5 lb plate point. I don't want to use 5 lb plates to add 10 lb to whatever weight I have on the bar all the time. Sometimes I feel more comfortable adding just 5 lb with 2.5 lb plates. With my bench press, even small weight changes make a difference in whether I can lift the damn bar or whether it's just going to sit on my chest as I struggle to push it off. I don't use the little plates for the other two big lifts.
"If you keep dividing the weight, you'll never reach your goal." Wow, that's a clever way to talk about Zeno's paradox in a video about weight lifting. I'm impressed. :D

+cRaB jUiCe Literally just made this mistake last time I was working OHP :') I thought "I got this" 4 reps in... "I've definitely not got this".
try adding 10 pounds to laterall raises (:
always using 2x2.5 pounds when i put more weight
No one does lateral raises with a straight bar though
The squat rack is the club house for the hardcore gym rat lol
Heck yea, pisses me off when rookies be usuing it lol
+Herman Garcia I had to wait for a squat rack to open up for nearly 30 mins after i did my Dl's. Dude was doing shoulder press and shrugs all the other racks were being occupied by actual lifters. PLEASE GTFO of the squat rack if you are not squatting.
+Josh Estipona Shoulder press or OHP/military press?
OHP which is fine but shrugs dog please GTFO if you're gonna make me wait that fucking long.
Josh Estipona Personally, I find shrugging w/hex bar better or dumbbells.
I hate "squat rack curlers" at my gym, especially since these are the guys that think they're curling 135lbs but they're really just keeping their arms at a 90 degree angle and swinging them back and forth.
I haven't seen one before lol
-brb been lifting for a year
ahmet memo Been lifting for about 2 years and there are 2 annoying weirdos who curl in the squat rack. One is some pakistanian/iraq/afghanistan/middle eastern guy who has the most annoying grunt and seems to decrease in weight that he's lifting every week, then there's an old black guy who has the horrible form that I've been talking about.
I call bullshit.
Gjvon Graves Ok. I mean, I see no reason to lie about that. Who am I honestly trying to impress?
Curlers. In the squat rack. With a belt. And a spotter. I hate my gym.
Up until now, I didn't know you could destroy a blender ball by just stomping on it.
Anyways I hate people that underestimate me at the gym.
no body does
Sniff? Like dogs?
Your sarcasm, it's beautiful
captain sum ting wong You sir, just won the internets. Congratulations!
You're super smooth, congratulations captain sum ting wong
4:48 was that Bradley Martin?
+Master Potato nah bruh bradley looks like dom with a pump
***** yeah and he's a whole lot shorter than dom is too
He’s too big to be Bradley
"If it was meant for curls, it would be called THE REST OF THE GYM!" I fuckin died laughing!
how to NOT look like a gym noob would be a funny episode. stuff like stuffing your hoodie so you look swole and other shit like that
Please tell me you haven't seen this
+Prog47 is this the hoodie equivalent of synthol?
haha it could be
+Prog47 Stuffing your hoodie? Never seen anyone do this lol
+Al C. immmmm deaaad 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
his gym etiquette is like a bro code for gym goers. amazing.
Lol was that a crossfit session you interrupted in the end?
He has to be one of the funniest guys on youtube, and I couldnt agree more about people loading up the bar with shitloads of 10's and 5's like wtf
4:39 fucking blender ball. I was dying
my heart stopped when you stomped on the blender ball =/
After having been going to the gym regularly for over a year now, I can honestly say that pretty much everything in this video is true and legitimately helpful, especially the first couple of minutes.
I love my blender ball... please don't step on my blender ball D:
now i might just be shitting all over a dick, but i read somewhere that blender balls are insanely bad for you because of all the built up bacteria it eventually carries, what do i care i only swim bro
SIurm There's a little thing called "washing". Look it up.
This is Dom before he left humanity behind
It's nine years later and I still can't understand what he's saying when he's tossing the lighter dumbbells on the floor.
I think the joke is that they're flat out useless if you want results lol
Just randomly viewing some of the original Broscience vids I first saw years ago, and this one has to be one of the all time best!
Therapist: Dom without a headband isn't real, he can't hurt you.
Dom without a headband:
That's dom's rookie mistake
I saw one of my brothers lifting buddies at the gym on legs day... I walked up behind him curling in the squat rack. He dropped the barbell and was like "Please don't tell your brother about this!!!! I swear this is the last time I use the squat rack to do curls!!" The look on his face was priceless.
I took a picture of him and sent it to my brother.
Needless to say my brother no longer has a lifting buddy...
my ab workouts are 100% comprised of watching broscience vids. they shredded
Man do I miss these old videos.
a personal trainer in my old gym used to put clips on the smith machine, a true face palm moment
Theres no argument here. 22 years of lifting experience. 5lb can mean the difference between a successful lift and a failed lift. 5lb can make deference in getting a set weight x 12 vs x 13/14. Ive been there. Ive seen tons of others there over the years. To simply dismiss 5lb as completely insignificant or to look down on someone that puts that on the bar or stake is the most "bro" thing i ever heard.
hence the name "Bro Science"
You're either an idiot, or trolling
Bro, do you even math?
i always come back to the OG vids
Can i get in between your set of squats to get some curls in?
Provided you're curling 225, yes :).
John 225, that's cute ;)
This happened 2 weeks ago and the kid is arrogant so instead of saying something I continually crop dusted him with chipolte farts
Robert Hale ohhhhh snap!
How does this guy get access to an empty gym to film?
could be his gym? dunno.
Action6Man i think it's like a 24 hour gym and it's very early/very late, or something like that
There's always at least one weird old man at my gym when I go at 3-4am
10Dante4 yeah true bro. i usually train at round 11pm and theres very few people there.. dont have to wait for the bench or anything, its great!
Maybe he has a friend that owns a gym that isn't 24/7, and let him in to use it before he opens it.
Hahah 35's - AKA fake 45's
There’s a guy at my gym that benches with his feet in the air. He’s also wearing Birkenstocks. And also has at least 1 set of DBs to use while he’s resting on the bench.
U gotta ride a few ponies before u can run with the bulls! Where is that on a shirt?
Ikr?
I was lifting 250, but now I'm up to 252.525!!
grats, you're almost up to half of my 1 handed curl max
@@clerpington_the_fifth pounds little guy, not milligrams.

Yo Dom is ready,
My calves weak but my arms are ready,
Ya mom's on heh knees already,
Sucking my spaghetti.
Your spaghetti? You need Viagra old man?
It could be uncooked.
i randomly thought of this guys vids i first seen them when i was 14 when i started weight training in HS crazy to come back 10 years later to see these! still mad funny! W vid
He’s the Gordon Ramsey of the gym
" as noticeable as a rack of dumbbells below 15", best analogy ever.
Hey, I only wear the oversized hoodie so I don't turn all the bros gay with my glorious physique. :3
Thumbs up for the video.
There is a reason to use fractional plates, however - linear progression strength training programs may have you add weight every workout, or every week, until you fail.
Another rookie mistake: wearing zebra striped pants
Nah that's alpha af
JOG homie took 5 years to respond
@@SickUserName and you took 5 years and one week to respond.
and dad took 16 years and still hasn't come back from the store
@@spicenight5634 Why
35's AKA fake 45's LOOOOL
I kind of disagree with the 2.5 lb plate point. I don't want to use 5 lb plates to add 10 lb to whatever weight I have on the bar all the time. Sometimes I feel more comfortable adding just 5 lb with 2.5 lb plates. With my bench press, even small weight changes make a difference in whether I can lift the damn bar or whether it's just going to sit on my chest as I struggle to push it off. I don't use the little plates for the other two big lifts.
SL 5x5 uses 2.5 plates to increment by 5 lbs each lift.
Chill it's just a joke brother
even after all these years i think this is my favorite broscience ever
I'm skinny, just started out bench pressing and I kinda agree about the 2.5lbs weight.
I hate when people do squats in the curl rack.
I've never seen his forehead
"Nobody's lookin' at you, you're not even big enough to see." xD
Dom's hair and hairline looks much thicker and fuller in his latest 'bros vs' videos compared to when this was taken. Wonder what his regime is
Hair transplant or he was able to reverse some hair loss through common medications like minoxidil and finasteride (then maybe hair transplant).
Do you own the gym? No one is ever there
Holy shit, Dom has a receding hairline. That's why he wears the bandana
His hairs probably just running from his fearsome biceps
He trippen , that shaker ball is everything .
"If you keep dividing the weight, you'll never reach your goal."
Wow, that's a clever way to talk about Zeno's paradox in a video about weight lifting. I'm impressed. :D

"If your gonna work your core... wich im pretty sure was a chest" 😂😂😂😂
I hate those people who bring a ducking gallon of water as if gonna drink the whole fucking thing. how long are you planning to be at the gym? and those people who bring a gym bag that has their entire house in it and their wardrobe and shit
+Tesid Ape I fill a gallon up at the start of everyday and drink it throughout the day. Yes, I bring it to the gym.. No, I do not plan or expect to finish it after or during the workout.
That's your problem
Don't be hating on the galloners
Dude the fucking croissant as a metaphor for the metric system, holy hell that's prime
can these fucking youtube commercials be longer orrrr
+adblocker?
dat youtube red son!!
“Here’s some mistakes to avoid”
Starts throwing every singe dumbbell below 10 lbs on the ground lmao
Bro do you even math?!?!
Missing the old videos. They teach me a lot
People who wrap themselves in bandages and then max out on squat are called Mummies. They sometimes imitate the same movements and groans as well.
"Don't try to reinvent the wheel. it's already been invented, and it comes in cheese form."
This guy...
Not gonna lie I've committed about 3 of these crimes
Which ones?
+Sharkslayer all 2 of them
I had to scroll back through all the videos to see if Dom exists without a headband.
