There’s also a French comic adaptation of Tarzan of the apes written by Christophe Bec.

There’s a John Celardo retelling lasting in two parts from late 1962 to may 1963. However, it is Tarzan himself who narrates his story to a bunch of preteens.

Thanks. I am almost done reading the 90's Dark Horse Omnibus of Tarzan and looking for the next Tarzan read.

This comparison was long overdue. Thanks Todd!
So the newspaper is the most complete and adds novels 2-4, but it not true ‘comic’ form. The Manning (Gold Key) is the shortest, the Hogarth and Spiegel (Marvel Super Special) only adapt 1/2 of the novel, so no Jane. The current Dan Jurgens is a great 1/2 half also, but the change in artist will make 2nd half look weird. Thus, the Kubert adaption seems to be the most balanced (full novel, consistent artwork).
I have the 2 volumes for Lord of the Jungle (Dynamite 2010) and, agree, it’s mixed.
The Marvel Comics Tarzan #2 flashback by Thomas & Buscema looks awesome. Pity is only one issue (too short, like Manning’s).

Great Overview I was going to go back and look at some of those adaptions, but I will just move forward with the Dynamite Lord of the Jungle vol 2 . I see the first volume of dynamite is a definite skip. Great video.

I like Hogarth's art best (in the covers).

While many other artists fill in the frame with lots of bold statements about the environment and forget about the expressiveness and physicality of characters, Hogarth does the opposite. He rather focuses on the physicality of the characters and their actions and leaves the surroundings to be filled in more completely with our imagination.
Also, he depicts humans with more subtle lines, also more elegant postures and movements, and they are contrasted with the harshness of the jungle and the inhuman, brutish moves of the great apes and animals.

I remember Tarzan off and on...watching the Johnny weismueller movies...I remember a 60s tarzan tv show vaguely the Disney cartoon...but my favorite tarzan was Christopher Lambert greystoke legend tarzan...love his portrayal of tarzan. Kerjack? Wasn't he tarzans father? I remember him from Disney cartoon....im curious I know tarzan went to civilization ,did he ever stay in civilization? I know in greystoke he went back to the jungle.

He's different in the novels than he is in most movies. He learns French and English and travels to American to be with Jane (who is from Balitmore). They eventually marry and he claims his inheritance as Lord Greystoke. They live in England awhile and have a son before eventually moving to an estate they own in Africa. Tarzan is interlligent, fights in two world wars and is constantly having adventures where he discoveres lost civilizations in Africa. If you're looking for modern screen represenations closer to the source material, there's the Legend of Tarzan movie, the Tarzan the Epic Adventures show and the 70s Tarzan Lord of the Jungle cartoon.

You still need to get the French comic by Christophe Bec and the artist Stevan Subic.
