The feedback I've had from my engine builder who has just built a 1380cc unit for next years Lenham race Midget is that it's far better engineered and easier to fit than the one (from somewhere else) he fitted to my 1420cc Modsport Midget engine he refreshed earlier this year. We'll be sticking with MED components for the foreseeable future now.

Okay Good product from years of experience with my mini belt drive set up, the main problem for road car use was oil leaks from the seals and it depended on where you positioned the housing, it was impossible to correctly locate it on the engine with gasket sealant on the surfaces. These kits need to be sold with nylon guides for the cam and crank that locate in to the surface where the oil seal sit otherwise it is not 100% oil tite.
Please for the love of god develop one of these for the reliant ohv engine range. New timing sprockets and tensioners are unavailable and have been for several years, and commonly available chains are not of great quality. Not only that but front cover oil seal leaks are a problem because the pulleys are inevitably worn out by the original leather style oil seal.
Oliver Barnes it'll last longer but for high performance builds we'd recommend a more frequent change. For the cost of the belt and ease of changing it, makes sense.
It's more down to usage - most of these will go on high RPM race engines, so we'd recommend a more frequent change for the cost of the belt vs the cost of the engine. Best to be safe!
@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos thnks guys im just watching ya other vids .... currently building an s class for either this season or next ,, depends on the covid situation,,
Been loving the series thank you. Steve is just as knowledgeable and concise as he was twenty years ago. Superb!

Looks very good, however 15k miles on a belt seems very low when compared to other gates belts, why's this?

Does the very short belt length shorten the belt replacement interval compared to the longer intervals used with modern long belt OHC engines?

@@acrchy Ok give us a call if you need any pointers, as we built one a few years ago.
@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos will do guys already got some of your products on me list ,, scott kendall and ben butler is helping too
Why is this not recommended for mpi block
The block is fine, but the stock crank damper pulley with the multi v belt does not fit.
Cool, thanks
ahh nice, pls strike my other comment I didn't realise rules required a standard setup.
