R18: I have a 2006 Civic with 398k km (248k miles) with an R18A1. Owned since new. Body rust will end its life after another couple of years of daily use. The engine, however, is perfect. It burns about 2 litres (quarts) of oil per oil change. It needs an oil top up mid oil change interval. Not a problem.

@@chrissimmons9969 My R18A1 had a 10 year entended warranty due to the crack issue. I spent the last two months of the extended warranty period driving it around near the red-line trying to crack it, thinking it was now or never for the warranty 🤣. It survivved. After that it survived four kids learning to drive manual with it. Countless abrupt lurching stalls, horribly balanced starts, and whatever abuse they hurled at it when I wasn't there. 2017 Accord Sport 6MT with K24W1 engine. Changed oil (Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W20) and filter (Honda OEM) when I bought the car at 72,500 km. After 3,500 km of city commute driving, the oil level has gone from full mark on the dipstick to 1/3 up from the lower mark. Oil is clean. No leaks. No smoke. Engine runs great. No other concerns. Have you seen the K24W1 consume oil? I don’t know prior driving habits when I bought the car used at 72,500 km. Worth changing PCV valve and/or switching to Valvoline Restore and Protect in case the rings have some buildup?

    • @BCautosutions

@ I changed the PCV Valve which is a 2 minute job, with a genuine Honda part. When I shake the new PCV valve, there is a clicking/ticking noise that comes from it. The old one doesn’t make any noise when shaking it. On a 50 km drive this morning, I got 6.1 L/100 km on a highway drive; I’ve never seen this car do this kind of fuel economy in the past on the same drive with the same tires/tire pressures, speeds and road conditions. Can changing a clogged PCV valve improve fuel economy at all? It’s too early to tell for oil consumption but I notice a significant improvement in fuel economy??

IMO F20C/F22C from S2000 might be one of the most reliable engines ever put in a performance car. Overall extremely high reputation for an engine that gets rung out to 9k and 8k RPMs, respectively, and are routinely driven well past 100k miles with few issues if properly maintained.

I had an f22c myself and there’s a bunch of them with over 200k. Great engines if well maintained. Some known issues are tct failures, and in the f20c are valve sinking into the head and cracking valve retainers. Some higher mileage ones can also generate a few oil leak spots. Overall probably one of the most iconic engines 💯

Yes to my knowledge New bolts were used as well as the new head gasket of course. I figure going to the dealership they would do it per Honda’s specifications and I’ve always taken my car to them and had a great experience. I really don’t know what to do or even think right now. This is horrible bro.

I do believe it and he’s actually local. Once he hits 1 million, hopefully we can cross paths and make a colab video or something

Love them. Always wanted an Electric blue petal prelude. Instead I settled on a 92 si h23 non vtec which the installed an h22 head. Eventually that engine made it into a hatch with a b16 trans. Fun car 😅
