- Aston Villa have recently sold off some highly touted academy products, netting big financial windfalls for players with relatively little top-flight experience.
This summer’s sales, including Cameron Archer's £19M fee, Aaron Ramsey’s £14M fee and even Jaden Philogene’s £5M fee rank among their top transfers.
Despite having billionaire owners, Villa must ensure the books are balanced due to Financial Fair Play. Since 2020, they've spent £364M but earned only 44% of that amount back in sales, unlike Brighton's profitable model.
With top clubs earning big in Europe, Villa must rely on player sales and academy developments for revenue.
And while these academy sales certainly have made a lot of money, do they also make sense?

The buyback clauses makes them the right decision without them then no. It does leave us light with our injuries especially to JJ which is mad to think our entire left hand side (LCB also included) had a injury since the first game of the season. Which just goes to show Emery is a beast. I reckon we do get them all back at some point down the line when they're better then they're now.
True, the buyback clauses show that Villa hold the cards. Funny enough i did film this before JJ had the injury reoccurrence. With Sheffield United looking really dire, i could see Archer coming back next summer. If that's the case, it will be perfect because he will have gotten some good PL experience. UTV
