    im not sure if a lot of people understand the grip strength involved in this but hes cleaning with double overhand the entire tire which is very impressive

    That's incredible. Just unreal. I'm sitting at my computer drinking a beer, and I'm exhausted just watching this. Unreal man. Just an unreal job Derek.

    for most humans this is a max effort lift. somehow poundstone makes this look like a conditioning lift.

    WSM09 is gonna the best ever this year. It'll be like a rematch of Fortissimus09 just 3 months after.

    I actually met Derek Poundstone today, this video does not do him justice, he is clearly a force not to reckon with, he is a real nice and he will take home WSM 09 for shure.

    @LySeRgIa2 yep i had the same problem with overhead press when i began lifting but i found doing hyperextensions [3 sets of 20] before each of my press\squat\ deadlift training days fixed this tremendously.

  • @ocpowerlifters
    @ocpowerlifters 15 років тому

    I was amazed by the same thing bro,,, he cleans that like butter. WSM 09 USA!!!

  • @Maddolis
    @Maddolis 13 років тому

    @LySeRgIa2 Your best bet is to probably do some deadlifts or whatever back exercises just to strengthen it.
    I'm not a big guy either but when I shoulder press larger weights I feel that the weak link in my chain is also my lower back, so it definitely plays a solid part (and the back tends to play a strong part in most lifts).

  • @razegfx

    I wish my hands were as big as Derek's! He makes the axle look like a barbell.

  • @deadpan237
    @deadpan237 13 років тому +1

    @LySeRgIa2 you're probably getting a lot of spinal compression, try to keep your core tight and do more core and lower back work......that would be my guess

    @LySeRgIa2 Stretch your back before you do any pressing in the future. This will warm your muscles and go some way to prevent any pulls.

    not in boxing, because that sport is the art of punching. takes years to master.
    in a street fight, where wrestling on the ground is the end result, a strong man will break the majority in half with little effort. not to mention their strength will allow them to pick anyone up and have complete control.
    distance and speed is key vs. these guys.

    no derek is a strongman not an olmpic lifter. i mean the guy is a beast and ive been folowing him for awhile but i dont think he would be good at competing at an olympic level for clean jerk and snatch. he has the form of a strongman not a Olympic lifter
