  • Author's note,This composition uses the following compositional techniques:
Polyrhythms, Polymeters, Counterpoint, Modes and Polytempo. Polyrhythms, Polymeters are compositional techniques that describe pulses which are de-synchronous between two.
☆ A polyrhythm is the simultaneous use of two or more rhythms that are not readily perceived as deriving from one another or more sequences of music. Given 2 bars of the same length and tempo (stacked vertically), a polyrhythm would be dividing the upper bar into 4 beats and the lower one into 3 beats. These beats would be in sync on the first beat and drift or phase for remainder of the bar.
☆ A polymeter is where two sequences are played using different meters, but with the same tempo. For example a pattern that repeats a sequence over 5/4 played against one repeating over 4/4. Polyrhythm and polymeter differ in that the first repeats every measure, and the latter at the phrase level
☆ Phasing is a compositional technique in which the same part (a repetitive phrase) is played on two musical instruments, in steady but not identical tempi. Thus, the two instruments gradually shift out of unison, creating first a slight echo as one instrument plays a little behind the other, then a doubling effect with each note heard twice, then a complex ringing effect, and eventually coming back through doubling and echo into unison.
☆ Counterpoint is the relationship between two or more musical lines (or voices) which are harmonically interdependent yet independent in rhythm and melodic contour.
☆ In music theory, the term mode or modus is used in a number of distinct senses, depending on context. Its most common use may be described as a type of musical scale coupled with a set of characteristic melodic and harmonic behaviors. It is applied to major and minor keys as well as the seven diatonic modes (including the former as Ionian and Aeolian) which are defined by their starting note or tonic.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that usually starts slowly and progressively worsens, and is the cause of 60-70% of cases of dementia. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events. As the disease advances, symptoms can include problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, self-neglect, and behavioral issues.
A life well lived is a precious gift
Of hope and strength and grace,
From someone who has made our world
    A brighter, better place
It’s filled with moments, sweet and sad
    With smiles and sometimes tears,
With friendships formed and good times shared
    And laughter through the years.
A life well lived is a legacy
Of joy and pride and pleasure,
    A living, lasting memory
    Our grateful hearts will treasure
Dedicated to my Aunt Olga, with Love/
