Thanks Adam. Great explanation of how expo works. I see the settings on my radio but I have never messed with them. As a newbe I get all excited about just getting out and running my cars. Today I am sitting here with my radio, manual and youtube videos like yours and honestly I'm learning all kinds of new things. Awesome !!! 🏆🏆

Great info, glad to hear your testing the expo feature. I remember asking you about radio adjustments about a year ago (either on y-tube or fb) and at that time you really didnt mess with the radio adjustments. I've been testing them out myself and they can come in handy but like you said I did find myself forgetting the radio adjustments and trying to adjust settings on the car which really had me out of walk lol. Yes, the settings work well, but was something I didn't really adjust in the past.
When you showed me this at the Barn last weekend it legitimately gave me a full lap. It was great racing with you man, see you at LCRC next month!

Nice been wanting to do testing with this. Lutz told me it saved some races for him on throttle in low grip situations. Been wanting to test it, after clinic been wanting to test it even more now. Thanks good video.

I found personally a mix between expo/dual rates/ and servo speed really helped me to get the car to react the way I want. I'm no pro, but for me it makes more sense to get the radio dialed in an then work on the car tune
Yes, there's a lot of adjustments that can be very helpful.
Great info Adam. I know for me I use dual rate for my steering if I feel I’m getting to much over steer. Helps calm down the buggy.
Yes, dual rate will work to adjust the overall steering throw and feeling.
I like to use expo to add just a bit of precision around the neutral points, mostly to keep the car from twitching and upsetting weight balance when hitting specific marks on the track. Dual rate is something I'll adjust if I have too much overall steering, if that makes any sense.

I use expo (rarely more than 20%) to fine tune response and 'settle' the car/truck. Not just on high end radios though, most mid-level radios have this adjustment as well.

I've been running -30% expo for years now and it helps calm the car down around neutral. Only time it's hurt me is when I set it to -99% on accident and had on/off steering.

Thanks for the video. Ive been playing with this adjustment but seems to me running it flat is my option. I have no idea if its because of the terrain im on or if it just means my electronics are perfectly tuned already without adjustment. Feels like a just because its different doesnt make it better type thing.

Have you ever had an issue with switching out a stock receiver to a futaba receiver and lose your brakes? When I go to hit my brake it throws the car directly in reverse
All this time 😂 ive been playing with endpoints 50% , but that just limited full throttle.. exponential is the one I need.
Any tips on setting up a switch to be a momentary switch? I’m running a winch and would like to be able to run it in and out by holding a switch down.
I’m pretty sure that’s easy to do but it’s not some thing I’ve done personally for Racing.

Yes, still always using 70/30 trigger rate.
@@AdamDrake 70/30 for nitro or electric? Is that because you're just used to that, or you've found the longer "travel" on the throttle is perhaps more forgiving or evens out throttle response for efficiency? I have a Futaba 4PV, and it almost seems that the physical travel of the actual trigger is 70/30 vs. 50/50, which is the default mode for the 4PV (and most modern Futaba radios, I believe). So perhaps trying 70/30 will create a real aggressive brake. Of course all linkages would need to be readjusted.
@@charlesbonkley 70/30 or 50/50, you get the exact same servo travel. What this does is not to change the travel, but rather move the precision around. Imagine the trigger movement maps between 0 and 50 for brake and 50-100 for throttle. Changing it to 70/30 maps 0-30 for brakes and 31-100 for throttle. This means the throttle side has 70 "steps" it moves through whereas the brake side now has only 30 steps to represent the same range of servo travel or esc signal for electric. Hope I explained that clearly, not so sure
@@malATX You did. Thank you. I have a Futaba 4PV, and the manual confirms what you have said. They provide a graphic that illustrates the 70/30 vs. 50/50 even split of servo travel. So if one wants to try 70/30, that would mean either the servo horn would need to be repositioned and/or trim adjustment on the radio would need to adjusted, correct? Other than giving the driver 70 steps instead of 50, for throttle, what other benefits are there? Why would anyone want to do 70/30?
EDIT: One of the benefits--correct me if I'm wrong--is to utilize that 70% to help even out throttle movements, especially if one is a little trigger happy. Is that right? Yes, brake travel is shortened, and is more sensitive due to the 30% allotment vs. the 50%, but braking, IMO, is harder to judge and feather anyway. So adjust braking (ESC or linkage for nitro) to provide good and solid braking at full back-trigger is a good start.
Kind of surprised Adam didn't expand on the feedback/answers provided. I'd be curious to know why he prefers the 70/30 mode. He's the same age as me, but there's no way he was racing with, and got used to, a mechanical speed control in 1991. Certainly he would have upgraded to that sweet T4 or 411P! Maybe that's all radios did back then, was the 70/30 "feel," so the newer radios (with 50/50) felt totally off. Adam, care to expand? I'm curious, as you can tell! 🧐
BONUS: Also, Adam, which was it? A Novak T4 or Tekin 411P? Or maybe you went the full upgrade: the one with the pushbuttons!
I hate it when placing a new gas/brake servo. Or too much throttle or brake pads touching the spur without braking. FML!
