- In this video, you will explore Bad Ischl in Austria with me. Bad Ischl was named Austria’s European Capital of Culture. The population is about 14133. It is located in the Southern part of Upper Austria, at the Traun River in the center of the Salzkammergut region.
It was the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth (Sissi).
In the aftermath of the defeat of Germany in World War II, Bad Ischl was the location of a displaced persons (DP) camp for survivors of the Holocaust and Nazi concentration camps in Eastern Europe. The resident displaced persons were primarily Jews from Poland and other neighboring countries. They were provided with lodging, food, medical care, and administrative assistance until they were able to make other, more permanent arrangements. Many left for the United States, Israel, and Canada. The Bad Ischl DP camp remained active from 1945 through 1952.
In 1854, the Emperor's mother, Archduchess Sophie, gave him the Kaiservilla (Imperial Villa) as a wedding present. The villa became the imperial family's summer residence; Franz Joseph described it as "Heaven on Earth". He also granted a nearby mansion to mistress Katharina Schratt, that could be easily reached via a hidden footpath. The villa is still owned by the Habsburg-Lorraine family, although the grounds and parts of the residence are now open to the public.

Thank you for your tour of the village/ city in which I was born… in 1947. My parents were part of the Displaced Persons who lived there 🎉after the Shoah (WW2). Thank G-d, they had this awesomely beautiful place in which to start their healing process.
I am glad to hear about your connection to the city and the important history your family was part of. Thank you for sharing that.
I was born in Bad Ischl in1935,
I am in Chicago at this time. I enjoyed your visit to my home.
Congrats. Your videos are excellent!!!!
Thanks for VDO, that’s remind me visiting 4 years ago. Very lovely and peaceful place.👍

I stayed for 3 nights. The last day enjoy Katrin cable car, very recommendation.
I have been to Bad Ischl few times. It was a lovely town. You did a very nice job showing it. Thanks so much.
My pleasure 😊
Nice, this video and your hotel video helped me to decide a stay here.
Thank you. This city is a great base for those who plan on taking day trips to Hallstatt, St. Gilgen, St. Wolfgang, Gmunden, Lake Gosau, Obertraun, and many other nearby towns.
Efforts are for making this vedio is awesome 🎊 🎉
Thanks!
Thanks for your recommendation, could you please share more detail about bus number or train to take from here to Hallstatt, st. Wolfgang
To go to Hallstatt from Bad Ischl, take a train to Hallstatt train station and then a ferry to Hallstatt market square.
To go to St Wolfgang from Bad Ischl, take bus 546 to St Wolfgang. There are a few bus stops at St Wolfgang, make sure you ask the bus driver to drop you off at the bus stop before the tunnel.
Love this video
Glad to hear that!
Thank you for your great videos. Keep them coming.
Question: Where do you prefer to base to tour around this region, Berchtesgaden or Bad Ischl ?
Thank you for the feedback. Choosing a base depends on what region you prefer. If you prefer to explore Salzkammergut region, then I suggest you pick Bad Ischl as a base and stay there for at least 6 full days to explore all nearby towns including Hallstatt.
If you prefer to explore Berchtesgaden National Park region, then I suggest you pick Berchtesgaden as a base and stay there for at least 5 full days to explore that area. You can watch my videos of those 2 regions to see which region appeals to you more. I filmed many videos in both regions.
Thank you Mr. .....
Where are you from if I may ask ?
Belíssima ❤❤❤

I visited that region many times during different seasons; May, September, October, November, and December. I saw less rain in November and December but the weather was cold.
My Salzburg videos were filmed from late November through early December. You can check them out to get an idea how the weather is like in November. Here is one of my Salzburg videos: ua-cam.com/video/nAjjtnCtrcg/v-deo.html
