hey tekking, rayleigh's nickname is a nod to a medieval european trend where a ruler might place an enormous amount of trust into one particular person to the point where it was rare not to see that person close to the ruler's side. this individual would usually be referred to as "the king's shadow" by commoners. rayleigh being reffered to as the dark king means that roger was seen to have trusted him more than anyone else and rayleigh was never far from roger's side.
that seems likely. "dark king" often refers to a power-behind-the-throne type situation. it's kind how people used to think that zoro is the captian because luffy was so goofy.

Some times in gangs there is a person referred to as the "shadow leader" who is the person that calls the shots but keeps themselves out of the spotlight, usually behind a kind of figurehead leader. Bronze is Copper combined with Tin, and more specifically it consists of 88% Bronze and 12% Tin. So, I'm thinking that Scopper may have a little brother, apprentice, or a literal small friend that he can be paired with on the crew to fulfill the role of the Bronze rank.
Does anyone think that robins mom was in rodgers crew, or at least helped them out in some way. Cuz how did Rodger get to raftel through the poneglyphs?
they are in the right age range for that (ace being 8 years younger 7 really) and i think Robin was around 8 when her mother returned, which would give about a 2-3 years after the return to ohara for roger to make it to raftel/ execution. but shit its late and i can't think straight
He was able to read the poneglyphs because he can hear the voice of all things or some s*** it was explicitly stated by Rayleigh that it was Rodger reading the poneglyphs
I feel like he got his name because he has the same power level as silvers and has the same amount or wiser than rayleigh so was rayleighs stand in (like if rayleigh was off doing his own thing he's the next in command). I feel like rayleigh was just regarded as number 2 because he was always with roger and not necessarily in raw power eg scopper could be just as strong but since rayleigh was always palling around with roger and basically runs the crew he just naturally the number 2 (similar to how people could think zoro is captain in power or nami because she runs the ship).
I thought of that too, maybe it's the sea under the Red line in Fishman Island, I prefer to Think All Blue is the One Piece World after they use Pluton, Poseidon and Uranus to destroy Mariejois along with all of the "Giant Snaked Soaked in Blood" ( Red Line ), Connecting the worlds 4 blue seas together, affecting the whole planet thus no more Paradise or New World or Calm Belt, but only All Blue where Fish can swim wherever they want.
smoker hasdone more chasing of the straw hats, coby wants to be the rival but stared too late, i could never see him surpassing the top 5 straw hats. where as i could see smoker battling it out with pretty much anyone but zoro and luffy
Tbh I say the only villain that wad actually , lets say an equal match was lucci. He really pushed luffy to the limit it was kinda my wish that they be rivals (but ik they can't) . whilst other villains were outright op or too weak
I think that the "dark king" comes from either his haki or (this might be stretching it) it comes from some dark shit that he´s done in the past kind of like Law when he brought the hearts of 100 pirates to the marines so he could become a warlord.
Could the Dark King name refer to Rayleighs armament haki? When using it, the persons limbs/body/weapon turns dark. Armament haki also is the only known haki to have a limited supply, so its possible that the Dark King name refers to Rayleigh because, unlike other haki users, he may not have a limited armament usage.
bigfoot666913 so, north, south, east and west blue, grandline, new world, skypeia, the celestial dragons sea, and all blue, fuck one piece has many seas. is all blue really a sea? I think it is like one part of the new world where you can find all of the fish, not a separated sea.
@@phelps6205 Eh, bit necroposting, but I am fairly certain the all blue is simply a small location where all the water collects. Technically, the top of reverse mountain already combines 4 blues, but I am fairly certain they also mean the calm belts and grand line, which could mean that there is a cave below reverse mountain(raftel possibly) where all water combines. I mean, all Strawhats have a dream. Luffy: Pirate king, ends in raftel obviously Nami: Making a navigational chart of the whole world, which is partially available and just needs some adjustments in accuracy, except raftel is missing entirely. Robin: learning the true history of the void century, ends in raftel Franky: Make a ship that reaches the end of the grand line, which is raftel. Brook: Meet Laboon again, who is at the start of the Grandline, but considering his family is on the other side of the red line, it's very easy to see that reverse mountain is going to be destroyed as it's Laboons dream to reach the other side. Considering the grandline is a circle around the one piece world, it's easy to see where we're going here: raftel is going to reunite them.(btw, remember how there is still a crew spot open in one of Oda's sbs close to Vivi and Merry? Fairly certain it's Laboon). Nami and Brook are a bit deductive, but fairly reasonable. The trend is kinda obvious, so if we assume they all end in Raftel, it means that: Usopp is finally losing all his preconceived fears in Raftel. Zoro is going to take the title of Greatest Swordsman at Raftel(probably a battle between the strawhats and the WG, with Mihawk being summoned) Sanji finds the all blue at Raftel Chopper discovers his final cure using the plants on Raftel. Then the assumptions can go further, meaning Raftel is in an "underground" sea, probably below reverse mountain, which makes the combination of all waters possible. Which makes it relatively easy to assume that reverse mountain is going to be destroyed, which can also cause the all blue to be formed. I mean, it's speculation based on the trend that seems to be aimed at raftel, but it's not unreasonable.
He's the man in the shadow of the king of the pirates. He was the man who stood behind the king, and was the first mate. He is the man behind the scenes, the dark king.
I love to imagine that Buggy and Shanks at age 11 were just hanging out, and some 50 year old man walks up and says " Hey... I like you kids wanna join my grew." And Shanks just forces Buggy coming along
Which makes me think that he might've been involved with the underworld or something, doing shady things like we see with the people that associate with Big Mom or Doflamingo.
About the "Dark King Rayleigh", my initial idea would be that Rayleigh at one point had the Yami Yami fruit and some how was able to surrender it back into the world when he retired from being a pirate with Roger. I don't think this would happen because Rayleigh made no exclamation about Blackbeard after the Marine Ford Arc when training Luffy about the Yami Yami fruit. I mean he was 2nd in command of the Roger pirates and knew the One Piece, and most likely most of the secrets of the world so I would assume that he would know almost perfectly how the devil fruits work. Or I could just be wrong either way, love the videos keep up the work.
They are probably referring to King's haki which is also known as the conquerors Haki, I think Dark stands for Haki since its a dark colour and has a dark Aura
I think the name dark king was given to Rayleigh because he was the 2nd in command on the pirate kings' ship. Roger was considered to be the king of pirates who lead his crew to their position but even the marines knew that Rayleigh was the one in charge of the back scenery so he was operating from the backline, where it's dark.
As I recall dark king/prince, is usually used to refer to the shadow leader like figure. Like in Ouran Host Club, Tamaki was in charge, but Kyoya was the dark prince that actually ran sh*t. I think the same applies to Rayleigh. Roger was the undisputed captain, but Rayleigh was the one running things in terms of day to day operations.
Dark King Dark - he uses and is incredibly proficient in armament haki. King - In a chess match, the king is the piece you want to capture. He isn't the most powerful but he probably was smart enough to think of strategies and plans Roger could use. Quote from the wiki - "Rayleigh is well known for his crafty and cunning mentality: he has managed to evade the grasp of the expansive World Government for over 20 years now" " Calm and level-headed at virtually all times, he was the individual to break up arguments and disputes aboard the "Oro Jackson". " So, he was instrumental in keeping the crew together.
i just found out my basketball coach (who apparently was an actor) did Gold D Rogers voice in the 4kids production i couldnt believe it ! heres the link where he told us : instagram.com/p/BTZ8k0CFX51/?taken-by=frederick_b_owens&hl=en
To be honest Rogers voice was one of the FEW One Piece voices that were really good. Hell I actually like Rogers 4kids dub better than his Funimation dub.
Historically, captains of pirate ships, in addition to being elected by the crew (for the most part), were rarely sailing masters themselves. They were warriors and charismatic leaders, and Roger (and Luffy for that matter) fits that role perfectly.
Maybe the Dark King title was a jab at the fact that, like you mentioned, Roger seemed a lax Captain and was referring to Rayleigh's authority. Take out "The Dark King" and break down a level of control among The Roger Pirates. This isn't to suggest that Roger is a poor captain either, but giving a focus to important individuals around him could have been a viable strategy for the World Government to have pursued. I dunno, my best guess at least, love your channel BTW!
I came from the year 2020, and you mentioned Yorki... You just made a Yorki video... I imagine the planning you do in order to make videos Makes me appreciate you more brotha
Gold, Silver, Bronze.... But who will be called Platinum? All sea's: North Blue, East Blue, South Blue, West Blue, Paradise, New World, White White Sea and i guess the 4 calm belts.
I think the "Dark King" title refers to him always being a subject to Roger. He was extremely strong and maybe an equal to roger that if he had stepped up he could have been the king of the pirates. But kind of like Zoro with Luffy, he always recognized him as his captain and maintained that lower position.
The relationship between roger ad garp is like how Bartolomeo described his own relationship with Bellamy. When you fight against someone you become war brothers
Someone else noted this: Rayleigh's title is Meiou, which is used to refer to Hades and such. It makes me really think that he was involved with the underworld in some way, basically someone that was evil and swayed by Roger's charisma, kind of like Zoro being a bounty hunter and not exactly perfectly good.
Buggy awakening his fruit could be scary as hell. He'd be like an even more OP version of Inazuma, just able to chop anything he wants and control it psychically.
I always thought that the title 'Dark King Rayleigh's' alluded to the fact that he was a man with the conquers haki that served as someone else's subordinate, meaning he served Gol D Roger even though possessing the attribute of a king making him the pirate king's shadow, literally the dark king
12:45 Zinc is actually a much less common metal than copper. Pennies are made of brass. Most things we have that are "copper" are actually brass. Only things like electric wires are actually pure copper. Brass is quite strong and the two properties it has that make it preferable over steel is that it's non-magnetic and it doesn't spark when struck.
I like the suggestion I saw someone make sometime ago (can't remember where), that Dark King was a title given to him cause he's the embodiment a true king's shadow, "the shadow of a true king". Not in the way that Rayleigh was overshadowed by Roger or in a negative way, but that Rayleigh might've been equivalent in power compared to Roger, yet he was not a king. So if Roger was the Pirate King, the king getting all the spotlight (Light King?) then Rayleigh was worthy title of a king of his own, and "Dark" was because he wasn't a true king per say, but worthy of it. It's quite a complex explanation, the person I remember suggesting this described it better. Another suggestion I've seen is because he's the "king" of full body armament haki, hence "dark" since armament haki appears kinda blackish. Though Rayleigh has never shown to do that, so it's kinda far fetched. At the same time, I doubt we've even scratched the surface of his full power in play, even against an Admiral, so it could be a possibility. It'd also fit his name as "Silver" since armament haki has this metallic look to it, and silver, compared to gold or copper/bronze, looks more like regular metal. I still prefer the first one, there's a deeper thought into it and expands on the relationship between Rayleigh and Roger in an interesting way. That they were such close friends and equal in power, that despite Rayleigh not being king of anything and technically following one, he was given such a title anyway because Rayleigh may as well been a king if he hadn't followed Roger, yet being such good friend with Roger, they were kings together and Roger couldn't have done what he did without Rayleigh and vice versa. Not saying that's how it is in the actual canon One Piece story, but I'd like to think that's how it could end up.
Funny thing is, when you talked about dark king being a title from an old nintendo game it came to my mind that Ganon in Ocarina of time was "Dark King Ganon".
The order in which Luffy met Roger's crew is as follows: (Shanks, Buggy)east blue, (Crocus, Rayleigh)grand line . Seeing how the trend goes as:(VERY OP, not so op), (not so op, VERY OP) respectively. Think of it as Support and Fighter pairing. Therefore, I think the next 2 people we meet from Roger's crew are gonna be (Scopper Gaban and Oden Kazuki*) following the trend. * If it is later confirmed in Wano Kuni that he is truly dead, then this position can be filled by any of the Roger's crew members (Or Tom (who knows Pluton, important for EOS), if he is somehow still alive), but I believe they must be important to the story. Oden Kazuki is a historian and can read the poneglyphs making him very important for EOS stuff, and thats why I think he will be the last one Luffy meets. Moreover, each of the 3 'not so op' members have parallels in the straw hats (to some degree). Buggy is a liar and a fool (kinda like Usopp), Crocus was a doctor of the Roger Pirates (=Chopper) and Oden Kazuki was the historian of the Roger Pirates and can read poneglyphs (similar to Robin).
"Dark King" could refer to the 2nd in command position that Raleigh held. While Gol D. Roger was the face of the Roger pirates behind the scenes like you said Raleigh kind of held things together and kept an in line crew. Almost like how Danzo was the leader of the darker side of the Leaf Village compared to the 3rd Hokage being the "face" of the village. Thats what I always thought it meant anyway.
"Dark King" maybe is referring to the way Rayleigh has mastered haki. Maybe in his prime, Rayleigh was known for coating his whole body in haki, hence the "dark".
I believe Rayleigh is named "Dark King," because Roger was the "Pirate King." Considering Rayleigh is the second in command of the Oro Jackson and they did find Raftel and just like Whitebeard was, Rayleigh is probably more than capable of obtaining One Piece but "chose not to sit the seat," (Doflamingo quote,) he's referred to as the "Dark King," essentially in the shadow of the "Pirate Kings seat."
In Greek, the medal for third place is actually called "Το χάλκινο μετάλλιο", which does translate to "The copper medal". I'm guessing that's because it used to be made of just copper in ancient Greece, but I don't really know.
Perhaps Rayleigh got the name "Dark King" because he defeated the previous holder of the Yami Yami no mi, he literally conquered darkness. Also fun idea, what if Roger god the name Gold Roger because he ate that fruit from the One Piece Movie GOLD that allows the user to manipulate and control gold. Maybe that is what the One Piece is one giant solid block of gold made through the fruits powers, probably not the case but a fun theory in my opinion. Nice Video Tekking.
"Dark King" I'd guess means he shared a similar influence as the "King": Rogers. He most likely had a hefty role in Rogers becoming the King of the Pirates.
i think neither buggy nor shanks are trying to go back to raftel because roger might have specifically ordered his entire crew to leave his treasure there. i doubt roger would have been like "since you're only cabin boys, you cannot accompany the crew to raftel"
>someone is named after bronze Money. Gold > Silver > Copper. Well, some pirates in a group can have a known title beforehand, sort of like Brook, Robin, and Zoro having a title to them before being grouped in with the Straw Hats.

There should be a short anime series centred around roger and his crew
Tekking, the 7th sea is the All Blue ;)
I thought of that too, maybe it's the sea under the Red line in Fishman Island, I prefer to Think All Blue is the One Piece World after they use Pluton, Poseidon and Uranus to destroy Mariejois along with all of the "Giant Snaked Soaked in Blood" ( Red Line ), Connecting the worlds 4 blue seas together, affecting the whole planet thus no more Paradise or New World or Calm Belt, but only All Blue where Fish can swim wherever they want.
There's also the white sea and the white-white sea
I think we’re missing the point of the All Blue. Maybe he’s not a sea, but a person. All D. Blue is going to be the final villain.
Do you think that the relationship between Smoker and Luffy will be a parallel to the relationship between Garp and Roger?
smoker hasdone more chasing of the straw hats, coby wants to be the rival but stared too late, i could never see him surpassing the top 5 straw hats. where as i could see smoker battling it out with pretty much anyone but zoro and luffy
Tbh I say the only villain that wad actually , lets say an equal match was lucci. He really pushed luffy to the limit it was kinda my wish that they be rivals (but ik they can't) . whilst other villains were outright op or too weak
Miller 0314 garp and Rodger were equals. I'm sure right now luffy can 1v1 Smoker easily
Most likely
Still waiting for the navy to realize how OP smoker is and make him an admiral. (Will probably happen when Kisaru retires)
I think that the "dark king" comes from either his haki or (this might be stretching it) it comes from some dark shit that he´s done in the past kind of like Law when he brought the hearts of 100 pirates to the marines so he could become a warlord.
The reason Why the call him Gold Roger is because they didn't want people to know he was a member of Will Of D
Szilard Molnar No, it’s Gol D. Roger.
if roger had luffy's devil fruit wouldn't people realize luffy had the pirate kings devil fruit
D is for Destroyer.
Was supposed to sleep but seems I gotta delay that for 30 mins :)
Karl Rehn Sleep is for the weak
I feel like Luffy and Coby are gonna be like Roger and Garp
Oh that's basically a given.
Nah revolutionary army are enemies of the world government same as Luffy they have aligning interests
I think luffy and smoker will be like Roger and garp
lol, Crocus fought with a harpoon. He now looks after a giant whale...
The Calm Belt doesn't count as a sea, but the All Blue does (making 7 seas).
8 seas if you count the white sea in skypeia
+ All Blue would make it nine.
bigfoot666913 so, north, south, east and west blue, grandline, new world, skypeia, the celestial dragons sea, and all blue, fuck one piece has many seas.
is all blue really a sea? I think it is like one part of the new world where you can find all of the fish, not a separated sea.
Phelyppy Lopes i thinks it's all the sea together
Dont forget it's the white sea and the white white sea
@@phelps6205 Eh, bit necroposting, but I am fairly certain the all blue is simply a small location where all the water collects.
Technically, the top of reverse mountain already combines 4 blues, but I am fairly certain they also mean the calm belts and grand line, which could mean that there is a cave below reverse mountain(raftel possibly) where all water combines.
I mean, all Strawhats have a dream.
Luffy: Pirate king, ends in raftel obviously
Nami: Making a navigational chart of the whole world, which is partially available and just needs some adjustments in accuracy, except raftel is missing entirely.
Robin: learning the true history of the void century, ends in raftel
Franky: Make a ship that reaches the end of the grand line, which is raftel.
The trend is kinda obvious, so if we assume they all end in Raftel, it means that:
Usopp is finally losing all his preconceived fears in Raftel.
Zoro is going to take the title of Greatest Swordsman at Raftel(probably a battle between the strawhats and the WG, with Mihawk being summoned)
Sanji finds the all blue at Raftel
Chopper discovers his final cure using the plants on Raftel.
Tekking is the goat of manga/anime reviewers
My god this guy us funny as fuck.
Fallen Fakie you should sub to him trust me its worth it
Fallen Fakie he's not funny but he posts a lot, which I like
Dutt i think its more opinion based. i dont really care if he posts a lot but i think hes funny
GOL.D Roger
SILVER Rayleigh
sCOPPER
the 3 metals I think that sCOPPER was 3rd in command but that's just a theory A ONE PIECE THEORY.
YES!! ive been waiting for you too make this video for ever!
I believe that shanks and buggy were in a circus before they joined Roger's crew
Ace got fisted from behind
Darkking Ice FIRE FIST
Dark King in chinese translation mean "Hades" and original name in japanese write as "冥王" (めいおう), read as "mei ō"
Which makes me think that he might've been involved with the underworld or something, doing shady things like we see with the people that associate with Big Mom or Doflamingo.
I like to believe that Roger didn't have a devil fruit, and that his Armament Haki was gold in color
K-Yem Oooo, that would look badass, hopefully we get to see fillers and flashbacks of him, Garp, and Whitebeard duking it out 1v1.
Scopper Gaban is the dude at the Gol D. Roger Bar in Lougetown.
Or I could just be wrong either way, love the videos keep up the work.
the 7th sea in one piece is the All Blue
Roger was so badass that Whitebeard Big Bitch Kaido didnt want to mess with him
#RestInPeaceKing
They are probably referring to King's haki which is also known as the conquerors Haki, I think Dark stands for Haki since its a dark colour and has a dark Aura
I think the name dark king was given to Rayleigh because he was the 2nd in command on the pirate kings' ship.
Roger was considered to be the king of pirates who lead his crew to their position but even the marines knew that Rayleigh was the one in charge of the back scenery so he was operating from the backline, where it's dark.
why no skull king Brook poster up now? :(
I would love a video just on Roger himself
I imagine the One Piece being like that scene in Goonies where they find gold, treasures, and etc in a cave concealing Roger's pirate ship.
" in one piece it's all about the D" tekking 2017
Dark King
Dark - he uses and is incredibly proficient in armament haki.
King - In a chess match, the king is the piece you want to capture. He isn't the most powerful but he probably was smart enough to think of strategies and plans Roger could use.
Quote from the wiki - "Rayleigh is well known for his crafty and cunning mentality: he has managed to evade the grasp of the expansive World Government for over 20 years now"
" Calm and level-headed at virtually all times, he was the individual to break up arguments and disputes aboard the "Oro Jackson". "
So, he was instrumental in keeping the crew together.
north blue, west blue, south blue, east blue, paradise, new world...Does that mean the All Blue exists? that would make 7
i just found out my basketball coach (who apparently was an actor) did Gold D Rogers voice in the 4kids production i couldnt believe it !
heres the link where he told us : instagram.com/p/BTZ8k0CFX51/?taken-by=frederick_b_owens&hl=en
Jesse Mukama Holy shit ,4 kids has shitty standards no offense to your coach
lool yea i know 4kids was pretty bad at casting voice actors in general pretty sure they got him because of how deep his voice is
To be honest Rogers voice was one of the FEW One Piece voices that were really good.
Hell I actually like Rogers 4kids dub better than his Funimation dub.
He looks exactly how his voice sounds
Historically, captains of pirate ships, in addition to being elected by the crew (for the most part), were rarely sailing masters themselves. They were warriors and charismatic leaders, and Roger (and Luffy for that matter) fits that role perfectly.
It is good that you made a video about this. I needed a reminder on the Roger Pirates.
Maybe seagull went undercover too spy on the marines as the seagull on Sengoku's hat
Thanks for all your hard work on these videos tekking, this has encouraged me to finish off the new world episodes and get up to date !!
I came from the year 2020, and you mentioned Yorki... You just made a Yorki video... I imagine the planning you do in order to make videos
Makes me appreciate you more brotha
When you fight against someone you become war brothers
you forgot the all blue
rouge's name pronounced rooj, not roge
Someone else noted this: Rayleigh's title is Meiou, which is used to refer to Hades and such. It makes me really think that he was involved with the underworld in some way, basically someone that was evil and swayed by Roger's charisma, kind of like Zoro being a bounty hunter and not exactly perfectly good.
after watching like 15 of your awesome videos, the Trivia fact finally earned you a subscription buddy

Zinc is actually a much less common metal than copper.
Funny thing is, when you talked about dark king being a title from an old nintendo game it came to my mind that Ganon in Ocarina of time was "Dark King Ganon".
can't think of many youtubers as genuine as you. fuck your videos are fun
I remember years ago on the One Piece forums one of the crazy-ass theories was that Scopper Gaban was Kaido.
I believe Rayleigh is named "Dark King," because Roger was the "Pirate King." Considering Rayleigh is the second in command of the Oro Jackson and they did find Raftel and just like Whitebeard was, Rayleigh is probably more than capable of obtaining One Piece but "chose not to sit the seat," (Doflamingo quote,) he's referred to as the "Dark King," essentially in the shadow of the "Pirate Kings seat."
love it how Rayleigh's ship got crushed by a wave and he had to swim all the way to Amazon Lilly
He most likely had a hefty role in Rogers becoming the King of the Pirates.
i think neither buggy nor shanks are trying to go back to raftel because roger might have specifically ordered his entire crew to leave his treasure there. i doubt roger would have been like "since you're only cabin boys, you cannot accompany the crew to raftel"
>someone is named after bronze
Money. Gold > Silver > Copper.
Well, some pirates in a group can have a known title beforehand, sort of like Brook, Robin, and Zoro having a title to them before being grouped in with the Straw Hats.
And on December 19, 2018, we got a discussion video about Roger.
