I mostly use alternate picking, but for that intro I think it was a mixture of downs, alternate and sweeps. I think it comes down to your style and how good you are at economy picking. Check out Metal Bryan for a lesson if he's done one. Very sharp player with excellent lessons that are accurate

It's got 22 instead of 24 on the AOD but the 25.5 scale is the same on both. The AOD has a wider fretboard and is flatter too. They feel totally different but the AOD is a great guitar that I love to play.
