I saw The Tommy Bolin Band perform in Hollywood California at the "Roxy" in 1976! What a performance the whole band put on that night!! The song that just blew me away the most was "Delightful". I remember Tommy was playing a beat up sunburst Fender Stratocaster at had a lot of ware off the finish but the sound it produced was killer. During the performance Tommy with feeling the soulful energy of the band as well as the audience and his playing was outstanding. Reggie McBride (bass) would occasionally lick the fingers on his right hand in between notes (it looked so old school cool) and his playing was funky. Norma Jean Bell (sax) had a really big Afro hair style and she looked very pretty and her playing and singing were superb. During their performance the whole (including: Narada Michael Walden (drums) & Mark Stein (keys)) band held the audience captive. The Funny thing is I had never heard of Tommy Bolin until about one week before the Roxy performance. A good friend of mine and bassist Howard Tsukamoto. Howard was a friend of Tommy Bolin and Howard had said to me that I should go and see Tommy perform at the Roxy. I will always remember and be grateful of the awesome experience I had seeing The Tommy Bolin Band perform at the Roxy in 1976!
I bought Teaser and loved it then poof! he was gone. When I describe that album to people I always talk about the range of music on it. I shake my head over what might have been every time I listen to it.
..Tommy Bolin RIP was one of the heaviest ever..check out especially his work with drummer Billy Cobham and drummer Alphonse Mouzon RIP, and his James Gang album Bang..he played with Deep Purple on Come Taste the Band but was facing a lot of hostile Ritchie Blackmore fans on tour which hurt his playing during that year..and check out Mike Stern if you’re feeling even more adventurous..stay strong and stay safe..New York April 19, 2021..
It's not very often that someone comes along that's way ahead of his time. So young, talented, promising, and electrifying to watch! The real shame here is that just now, the younger generation are hearing him for the first time! His works are timeless. Must have run in the family, and a hello and hope you're doing well to Johnnie.
Saw him in 1973 w the James Gang. Lots of people there had no idea Joe Walsh was no longer w the band. By the end of the show everybody was going, "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT:?!!!.. Rainbow hair. Silver suit. Just the most mind blowing guitar performance I had or have ever seen. I was deaf for two days. Went out the next morning about bought the James Gang, Bang album and played the grooves off. He was already into the long delay, Echoplex, really psychedelic sounds my 15 year old ears had never heard. DAMN he was great!!
I saw that tour too in Charleston SC. My first ever concert. Hah! I had no idea who that guy on guitar was but I have been going to live shows for 45 years based on his impression. My second show was Joe Walsh on the smoker you drink tour. Man.

SO great!!!! Love this... It's incredible to remember how young this crew was when they were making this quite sophisticated new music. Does anyone know if that was saxophonist Norma Jean Bell on vocals as well? Because, DANG! Smokin vocals. Love the overall vocal mix here, and Tommy's lyrical melodic sensibilities coming through on the lead guitar excursions. Wonderful stuff. Thanks for sharing. Peace.
No offence to Ritchie Blackmore, but could you imagine him playing on Spectrum? Even Jon said Tommy was more fluid than Ritchie, and he could solo for longer without pausing, though in fairness Ritchie did this brilliantly on the concerto in 1969.

From everything I've read Tommy was really out of it toward the end. But from the music posted on UA-cam he was still playing well a month or less before he passed away on December 4th, 1976. It's such a shame his life ended the way it did. I wasn't aware of him until hearing the James Gang- Bang album. I became an instant fan and sought out everything he played on. I was super bummed on hearing he'd died so suddenly.
He had incredible talent and importantly with style, and was just finding his individual musical identity when it all ended - very sad and all too common.
I've sent Mr bolin. All of the previous comments. Can you imagine. The sounds he's making now. Yeah. You can. Tuffenuf. Tuff tuff. Tuff. N that. Ain't enuff

Hi... is the first set in CD1? Unfortunetelly this album is out of print but we can buy in flac files. Thanks.
I'm from Detroit I did not know Norma jean Bell was the same girl that played at the club I worked at in Rochester I missed my chance to tell her her work on privet eyes was the best rock n roll sax ever
Mr. Richard Thomas Bolin Rest In Peace 🎤🎸😭🙏
I'have never heard this.song before 👍🏻
He's got the best band.
ebbets 74 had everything shame a big loss
He had incredible talent and importantly with style, and was just finding his individual musical identity when it all ended - very sad and all too common.
The speakers on that Rhodes are about to implode lol
Tommy was not sloppy. Very articulate clean playing.
Any more from ths show? The recording is first rate and Tommy's playing sounds great.
If you only know Tommy Bolin from vids of James Gang or Deep Purple, he can kinda suck. This is Bolin doing his thing and it's great.
Young Narada Michael Walden... cool.
I've sent Mr bolin. All of the previous comments. Can you imagine. The sounds he's making now. Yeah. You can. Tuffenuf. Tuff tuff. Tuff. N that. Ain't enuff
That would have been great to see.
