😱SHOCKING! Electric Car Charging Time and Cost Vs GAS
Вставка

- In this video I examine the claim that electric cars are a waste of time and money as many in the comment section have stated. The commenters stated that because EVs take longer to charge on road trips than gas cars that EVs are a waste of time, and therefore, a waste of money.
Check out the video to which vehicle saves the most time and money overall!

we still have an Truck RV which is diesel , we are just back from a Trip to Chiang Mai - 600 mile trip, what got me was waiting in gas Stations - not at Pump but for food and Toilet - My wife likes to sit in Toilet , but me nah use the RV, after 30 minutes we did leave , The EV we left at home , granted we don't have super fast chargers 50 Kl and a few at 120 kl , is does take 30 minutes to get 30 % it is slow , but the way my wife eats at food court well we could probably get filled up in half her feed times, ahhaha , so far charging at house /with solar ongrid system you can't compare because of house electric is cheap compared to states.
@@thedukeofmiddleville great video the out the box analogy is on point. When you measure the ⛽️ visit time and stuff. Me in FL we have the flat rate deal for off-peak ours. For my used it amounts to like 3 cents per Kw. Is good you pointed at how much more moneny it is while public charging. It is as much as gas or more when on road trips. Excluding the free charging at hotels, malls or Airbnb's.
I have 2 ev's, a level 2 charger in my garage and I'll never go back.
amen
If they catch on fire, the fumes are toxic and will disintegrate the marrow of your bones. It may take years for your bones to recover-if they do. So never help anyone burning in one unless you can hold your breath and smash a window in seconds- if not go faraway. Don’t breathe it in even passing by for a second. You also have less than a minute to get out of them if they do catch on fire. ..but they lock you in because they’re electric. Plus your sperm count goes down like 80% driving one. You’re driving a microwave. Time charging it is time you can’t get back. Time is more valuable than money. That half an hour at the plug just took another half hour of your life/pay. Is it as inexpensive as you think? How about the cost of replacing the batteries? How about the strip mining to make the batteries? What is the real cost of an ev?
lol, exactly opposite, WILL never go back to gas. NO MORE going to gas stations, NO more changing OIL, no more giving money to stupid Dealers.
Same here for the same reasons! Did you watch the video because you said exact opposite?
Thank for commenting!
I think the thumbnail suggesting otherwise was the confusion. I don’t own an EV and hope to own a Rivian one day. I love that SUV. Also I hope they increase the charging rate to 350kw to improve battery charging.
Agreed! I can't live without regenerative braking, one foot driving is a game changer for me!
I so agree! I will never EVER go back to gasoline vehicles in my entire lifetime
I have owned my EV for six months now and I can say I’m at a point where I don’t think I could go back to an ice vehicle!
I will never go back to a ICE. We still own a 2011 Toyota Venza and i hate driving it. It’s now my husband’s car (no bells and whistles). He’s a simple man. 😊. I drive my BLAZER EV and am so happy with the vehicle.
1st generation Venza has the most comfortable seats ever created. I miss mine all the time.
@@leafnutz2341 second Gen are even better and it has a 700 mile range too. Venza is a great hybrid.
Glad you found the right EV for you.
I never thought about the lack of brake dust on the wheels. Added to my list 😊
That is one of the benefits I love!
I read that 95% of EV owners say they will never go back to ICE vehicle. Seems like an overwhelming vote of support to me.
I am part of the 95%. There is no way I will go back to gas.
Thanks for commenting!
What was the survey sample size? Three people. As a four time BEV owner, I just went back to ICE vehicle. Two issues concern me are battery degradation ( which is a real thing) and over the road range. At higher speeds of 75 mph or more, BEV are not efficient at all.
Why was the Stellantis chief just fired last week? Because people still want Hemis,
Once you try a proper modern EV, there's no going back. It's more like 99%. Those that say otherwise, are those that have never had one, or had a crappy, slow charging EV, like a Bolt or Nissan Leaf, bZ4X etc. Anyone who says otherwise are just online trolls who have never been in a proper modern EV, nevermind owned one.
@ yeah OK, keep on rationalizing your choice. Many have gone back to ICE because they don’t have modern charging convenience or need the range at high speeds and not hop scotching to charger and charger. I’ve has S, X, 3 and Rivian. Yes, the lack of maintenance is nice. Other than that charging on the road can be slow and painful and insurance is certainly 30-40% higher as is tire wear. ICE now is not ice from even 10 years ago. You can do 10,000-15,000 between oil changes, never need plugs and maybe a belt or two. Modern fuel pumps at 13 gallons a minute. Plus, I can fill up in less than 3 minutes from empty to full . Can you ?
@@alexnutcasio936 Guess we'll have to agree to disagree. Obviously you're happy with your ICE; I hope you'll understand that lots of us are happy with our EVs. Arguing is obvously fruitless.
Duke, your headline SCARED me! I should have known that you’d be teaching. We bought our first EV in 2022 and have two EVs for the past year. We will NEVER buy another ICE vehicle. Thank you for your attempts to educate the ignorant.
I think the EV really starts to shine when you start to add in all the maintenance costs and time with an ICE vehicle. My Truck needed oil changes every 6000 miles along with tire rotations. Don't forget about the radiator, transmission and brakes. Rivian came to my house and did that on my time, I didn't have to waste 2 hours at an auto mechanics. You need to have that oil changed regularly if you want the engine to last, the longer you keep a gas car the more you spend on keeping it going. Most people get rid of a gas car when the up keep out paces cost of new(er) car. Most people don't think about the times savings in the reduced maintenance schedule, they get hyper focused on charging time. It takes 15 seconds to plug in and walk away to do something else.
A regular gas car is a money pit, I'm happy to spend a little time at home charging to avoid those expenses and the hassle.
@@thedukeofmiddlevilleSo true. My EV replaced a mid-80's Bronco which was a money pit.
I always say that I spend less time charging my car outside of home per year than gas car owners do getting their oil changed
Another good video and fine detail. Thanks for your efforts with the comparisons. I’m convinced and look forward to my first ev one day soon. Waiting on some of the 2025 models to hit the market.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video!
Lots of good points Duke. Thanks for helping dispel the anti-EV FUD machine. EVs are just a better technology, and once people try them, a vast majority never go back to ICE.
I just came from another video of yours and this intro SHOOK me! You jokester😂
That was EV hater bait🤣
This video made me excited to be an EV owner again. Love preconditioning my little Bolt EV in the garage with out worrying about the fumes coming out of a gas vehicle.
I'm glad it excited you!
😂😂😂you had me going with your headline. I’m an EV owner as well. I have an VW not the Rivian ( out of the range of my pocket 😂 ). But I love my EV and planning on buying another one. 99% of my fill ups are done at home. I also live in a colder climate, and love the fact that I get in warm vehicle every morning while plugged up to my home charger. Love the video!!
@@bakerland111 I'm glad you enjoyed it😆
Great video. I have a 2023 Chevy Bolt 2LT. When I pre start it, it automatically will turn on the heat, seats and steering wheel or AC depending on the outside/inside temperature . 😎👍
I love those features! Glad you are enjoying the Bolt.
I like your point about garage and home safety while idling. I never thought of that. One safety thing I have thought of though, probably 49 out of the 50 times I've ever been approached by someone asking for money, guess where it was. A gas station
That was the final factor that made me switch to an EV. I did go back and thank the guy that harassed me for money at the gas station for helping me make a great purchase decision.
Hey Duke another well put together video and thanks for your efforts. I’m on board with you. Well, I’m on board the Lightning but similar stats. And if gas goes up, cuz comin down more is looking like a no go, the savings numbers balloon. You are so right about being spoiled by the ride . And the garage door thing is something I haven’t seen on a video yet.
Glad you are enjoying the video!
They always compare old vehicles to EVs....don't know how many times I've read about the 15 year old Toyota
I know right!
Most of the struggle is coming from a gas powered vehicle and treating an electric car the same way. Thinking the only way to charge a vehicle is with a fast charger at a pump. Based on how many miles most people drive in a day, they could easily charge off a wall socket. Most cars sit, parked with no driver in them. They could easily be charging off a level two or level one charger.
You are right about the charging. It's not always as complicated as some make it seem.
EV owner for near four years, and never had an issue. Mine is not even a long range model, only getting 120 miles total. Just hit 98k miles in it, and going strong.
Hi Duke! We just picked up my wife’s R1S gen2 on Friday and yesterday we got an airbag alert. Also I’m noticing some other issues that owners had previous to the latest update, but we have the latest update and it’s the garage door not popping up when we get home or popping up in random places, media not resuming or saying there’s nothing there for Apple Music. Just curious to see, but can you do an update on any issues you’ve had lately with your R1’s or R1S? Thank you!
Have you tried a soft reset? You press the outer button on the steering wheel for about 15 seconds, an that should clear it.
@ Yep and the chat agent had me do the hard rest but it still didn’t go away. They schedule an appointment for the 23rd ugh! two days before Christmas, but they did tell me that I can bring it in sooner so I’m gonna take it tomorrow in the morning cross fingers that they can just fix it on the spot. The girl was nice and she said that will prioritize your vehicle since you just got it three days ago but still it’s frustrating.
As we get more charging stations, ICE will go away.
I also considered a PHEV before I got my Mach E because I had anxiety about the 2 road trips I take a year. The one I test drove felt like a snail after experiencing a full BEV 😂 I made one last road trip with my ICE vehicle stopping at all the DC fast chargers on my route so I could see in person that they were working and felt pretty confident that I could go full EV. No regrets. Nice view of the Arch btw!
Thanks! How are you liking the Mack E so far? That is a really good looking vehicle.
Thanks for sharing!
@@thedukeofmiddleville I love the Mach E. It doesn’t have quite the tech I’ve seen in Tesla reviews but it exceeds everything I need it to do and rides really nice!
Thats true its so hard to go back to using the brakes. I love 1 peddle braking man, and that Instinet acceleration. I'll charge at home with my LVL 2 charger just fine,
We only have one ev now but I would love to get my hands on a good used Tesla. We will always keep an ICE vehicle around for back up or other task we dont want to use the ev for. I also think I forgot to turn my ice off before 😂
I'm sure you can find a great deal on a pre-owned one!
Thank you for this content as always. We still have the Chevy Impala also to tote and fetch the dog.
Love the comparison! Very cool. You are right on target.
I love my electric vehicle. I charge it in my garage and will never go back to an ICE vehicle.
Like your calculations
Bought a Tesla Model 3 couple months ago. Never going back to gas. Way too easy to charge at home and here in Oregon where electricity is still pretty chap its more affordable. Plan to get solar and storage batteries soon.
Thanks, I am glad you are enjoying your new car!
When I drove my gas car. when I needed gas. I could shop around for price per gallon. Do you know before you charge. what the price per kilowatt. The convent access to facilities. When pumping gas or charging station.
This video explains the route planning: ua-cam.com/video/nzZnxLBlI6s/v-deo.html
I prefer to rent a car when I go on a road trip. I don't want my good car getting torn up lol.
Not a bad idea, a lot of people use to do this to keep the miles down on their cars.
It's funny how those who own gas vehicles especially when they have never driven an EV keep bashing how impractical they are and take too long to charge. Honestly, there are some people who will never get it driving an EV and that's very fine too. If you have a dedicated parking space with a 240V outlet for charging, go for it. Even if you DC fast charge at the cost of paying for gas, it's not a big deal because for the most part, you charge at home which is much cheaper. Thanks for the showing the comparisons on this.
Thanks! I'm glad you got some value out of it!
Drive 20k miles in a gas vehicle or better yet, 50k miles. Calculate the gas, oil changes, brake job, fuel, and maintenance schedule. Then and only then measure 20-50k miles of driving and “charging” an ev which is the only 1 real expense. ICE car is 5 times more to operate. My brokerage account which used to be my maintenance account can buy my second EV with the dividends. I reinvest my former “ice maint” slush into my brokerage account instead of the dealer and my Tesla has made me pretty rich in that account……never had that driving an ice car. $530 in dividends a month in GSBD, NEP, BITO because I don’t use money for my car anymore. Keep those rivians!
There is now way I can go back to an ICE vehicle.
Thanks for sharing!
Personally, I think electric vehicles are great daily drivers if your communite is small. I bought a 22 chevy bolt euv for $18k with 20k miles on it. I live in a very cheap state for home electricity. Our current rate is about $0.08 per kWh. I charge my car at home only. I drive less than 30 miles per day. I charge once per week and cost about $5.30 per charge. So I'm spending about $21 dollars per month assuming I even feel like charging my vehicle to 100%. I own a gas vehicle too. That is for travel, a backup, and or a very long journey. Having a mix of both worlds is a great thing.
I like the Rivian, hope they offer a lower cost but good quality vehicle. Does the range drop drastically in cold weather. What about maintenance? What do you have to do?
You got me with the title. But yeah, we still need some better charger setups and more chargers for those of us in rural areas. I would like to see what it would cost for a charger with fast charging to be set up in Chester. Over the river the Perryville airport has a charger but it isn't' a fast one, and Perryville has a Francis Energy charger that is not great.
Is that in Missiouri? If so, check out the Aging Wheels video from 3 weeks ago titled, "Do EV Road Trips Still Suck Without a Tesla?"
He compares the stark change in just a year's time on a route he took a year earlier from St. Louis down to chattanooga, TN. Especially now with the addition of the Supercharger network opening up. He uses 2 different EV's, one with NACS access, and the other still awaiting it with only CCS access.
You'll be surprised. And of course, since it's Robert, very entertained.
@ I saw that video and the Perryville charger still kind of sucked. There should be chargers at Bloomsdale, St. Gen, Festus, and Perryville and they should all be over 250 kW at this point.
@@ryanfraley7113 Let's see what happens in another year's time, then. Chargers are going up on a daily basis all over the country. These are not gas stations which took many, many decades to build out all throughout the country.
Part in the NEVI infrastructure bill is to put chargers in rural areas and low income areas. So a lot more chargers will be installed over the next few years.
Curious Duke, how does the Rivian make heat? How does the preheating affect your range?
My Gen 1 Rivian uses resistive heating like an space heater. The benefit is that it heats pretty fast. The Gen 2 Rivians use a heat pump. Using the heat will lower range, but its not noticeable during daily driving, but you may notice on a long road trip.
I've been warming 2 vehicles up in my garage (when its cold) 5-10 minutes, for years with the door closed. My family hasn't died yet. lol
I did a trip of around 2000 miles which included the georgia traverse of 400 miles off road mainly adventure. I did it in a gas car and the rivian and i was able to calculate how much time i did spend stopping for gas or charging etc. And you would be surprise of how close it was. It was a group of people so stop were more of a thing than a rush. And money was a bit less too. I have not included maintenance. Anywho
Thanks for sharing your experience!
the cost to drive a gas owered vehicle will go up and down according to the cost of gas per a gallon. with an all electric vehicle if you charge mostly at home the cost most of the time stays the same except for the winter season it may go up. here in missouri ameren missouri is asking for an increase in cost to produce electricity over 15 percent for 2025
I live in Vegas and drive 10 miles a day in a Cadillac LYRIQ. I love it for the city. I charge it once every 2 week usually have 120 miles left full charge In 8 hours or less. But for road trips no way I’ll rent a gas car no time to wait around and risk Tesla station not working. I say for local use only and 150 miles a day max in total driving to recover to full over night.
Lyric is a vehicle, and a good road tripper with supercruise. Also, it's very rare to find a Tesla supercharger that isn't working.
Thanks for sharing!
Stick to 80% max charge unless you're doing a road trip, better for battery longevity.
I’m going back to gas also I bought a fisker ocean and karma. Between having to charge and 12 issues I’ve had enough
I agree with you 💯
What happened at the 4:21 mark on the vid?? Weird voices came on as you were describing the no brake dust on the R1S wheel.
It is a glitch in the sound processing in Adobe Premiere. It happened a few times on this video and a few others.

Ghosts in the machine…..
@@alexnutcasio936 😂😂😂...you ain't lying! Lol
I agree with everything, however I don’t think investment is a good way to go with it, as the two vehicles in comparison have a LARGE price difference.
I have owned 10 EVs and currently owned two Rivians. So I get it, I fully support you. But the investment logic is what gets tricky. As the price gap between those is 30k. It would be better to see a comparison with vehicles much closer in price. But I know you are doing your best! Keep up the great work! 😊
Great for city people, not for country or cold weather. My next vehicle will be a diesel pick up
I don't live in the city and it gets pretty cold in the Midwest, and my EVs perform just fine in cold weather.
One piece of I might have missed you putting in was cost of vehicle or payment. I have talked to someone with $700+ dollar payment on ev and my last truck payment was $300 ish. So the monthly payment would be far more than the cost of gas per month.
Doesn't that entirely depend on the vehicles? If people lease a huge expensive EV that's certainly not going to save anything compared to smaller gas vehicle.
with my lightning im saving 400 a month in fuel compared to my ram
Normally there is a premium when buying an event so the cost is more when comparing similar modrls. This should be factored in when looking at the savings of charging and how long so you need to own the car to break even and have true savings.
what kinda truck do you have? How do you have a $300 a month payment? That’s like $16,000. Your not comparing apples to apples
I am not trying to compare different. He is. He is comparing a $75,000 minimum or low end $650 a month lease to a Mazda. I watch this to learn a bit. But he is not giving all the info. Car payment is a huge part of how much it costs to drive monthly. A pod cast i was listening to mentioned insurance is significantly more for ev as well as tire ware. And how much does it cost to charge a month. Electric is not free. I just wanna know all the costs if your gonna do the comparison. Have a wonderful day
The content is great. Plus, since I will be new to the EV game, your content has educated me and has given me a lot to consider.
Thanks! I am glad you are getting value from the content. I hope it helps during electric journey.
Thanks again for the feedback!
@@thedukeofmiddleville It definitely will.
I needed to charge at a EV station. I charged from 13% to 83% in 44 minutes, $35.11. I get approx 2.5 miles per KW. 2.5 X 70% = 175 miles. that is $20 per mile
That would actually be $0.20 a mile not $20.00
@@thedukeofmiddleville I missed the point. Thank You
Tesla is where it's at! Can't beat the charging network. I love my EV, I also have 2 classic cars that fulfill my need for ICE 😅
Finally!!! Someone does a video of what it is to live with and EV vs ICE. I will never go back to ICE and even I love wrenching. Only now I can find a nice ICE car to work on as a hobby rather than trying to fix my daily just to get around and try and limit repair costs.
@@stevemiro731 I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

That would cost my Model Y .68 cents. @ 3.5 kWh x .08 / kW
That is awesome Savings right there!

Using cheap brake pads gives you tons of brake dust using good more expensive quality pads you will barely get any dust just wipe it once a week
That's a great tip for maintaining your car. Thanks for sharing!
Did you get your referral rewards?
Yes, It looks like I have a few. Thanks for you using my referral code! I really appreciate it!
You're just one cool dude.
Love my 2024 Cadillac Lyriq Sport 3 which is paid in full. I plan to keep it for the next 6 years. 10,000 miles on it with one tire rotation with 12 months of ownership. I had a Level 2 Juice Box installed in my garage. 500 hp........loaded with all the options with a smooth ride. This is my daily ride. I purchase a spare tire (electric jack) which I placed in the rear trunk area. All cars need a spare tire. If I have to do a long road trip, I will rent a gas car.
Sounds like you're well-prepared for all scenarios!
Fill it up in the cold and rain!
Did you see the South American road trip with Ewan McGregor? They drove a fleet of Rivians
I do 1 oil change every 2 years and get 500 miles a tank on my accord and my tires last 5 years not 18 months.
Seems like a bad idea to try to justify it by treating your car bad. If you keep going so long between oil changes you will have to get a new car.
Despite video, those EV's will apparently remain in your garage, and Rivian just received that $6.6 B federal loan from Fed Dept Energy.
I'm also one of the 95% of the people not going back to gas ⛽car 🚘 Now after owning a tesla for a year it's a life changer. ❤
Trade in value on Rivian?
50k+ more than the Mazda. You could hire a part time employee to fill your car and wash it every week, twice a week and come out way ahead for years. It’s ok to compare on the luxury of not having to gas up or maintenance etc, but it’s not less expensive and in 7 years it’ll be nice to see what the cost of maintenance on the Rivian is. That and the charging network… hours to charge still. Cost to efficiency ratio, value, insurance, charging cost and time… Still ain’t there yet
Thank you for commenting, but I was quite clear that this was not a comparison of vehicles. This was about cost and time saving of home charging vs going to the gas station. Even a similarly priced luxury vehicle would have gotten worse gas mileage as the Mazda. I have covered that in past videos.
Also, as I stated in the video I have owned EVs for the same length of time as the Mazda, and the maintenance consisted of washer fluid and a new tires a 55k miles.
Park the idea until they're 25% lighter... Just a waste of energy
Ive owned a 2017 2SS Camaro, a 2015 Challenger SRT both manuals a Cadillacs 3 Rams 2 Tundras and numerous others cars both leased and owned and now as the owner of a 2021 Tesla model y performance I would never ever go back to a ICE car never. As a matter of fact I’m about to lease a 2025 RS1 Rivian. Once you go electric you don’t go back.
Sounds like you’re a car enthusiast! How do you like the Tesla Model Y performance?
@ You would be right a car and motorcycle enthusiast since I was a kid any thing with a engine prior to EV’S. Yes I love my Model Y performance it’s the longest I’ve owned a vehicle 3yrs but it’s very minimalistic inside which I got use to and at 6’2 235Lbs a little extra leg room and space wouldn’t hurt. After Rivian demo went home and purchased a few shares of stock I was so impressed, the R1S was to me the perfect veh I was also considering the Model X the Lucid Gravity and the BMW X5 50e.Tesla has some serious competition ahead. I’ve also owned 2 Hayabusa’s and a Harley Davidson full touring dresser w/ the 1550 twin cam upgrade, the need for responsible speed Lol keep up the channel good stuff.
Gas vehicles did not immediately take off when first introduced. Took a while for the infrastructure to grow to where everyday people could afford to own a gas vehicle. EVs are no different in this case. More people have to buy in to it
We’ve just took a 100k$ HI-PHI for a spin in a 🥶 -30 degrees centigrade. We almost froze to death on the way but It did survive tho. The range dropped drastically, bare were making 80km on full charge
One man's junk is another man's treasure. 😂😂😂😂😂
I have a second GEN Tacoma that I’ve had for a long time. The new Toyota’s are trash with their turbo garbage. Getting rid of my Tacoma and getting a Rivian cause it’s updated technology, but after watching your video, I don’t know.
Great analysis! I dont think EVs have enough situations solved for here in the US. Other countries have done much better than the US. Until we put greater focus on charging infrastructure, EVs will be a niche investment for the US. I'll never buy another ICE vehicle, but I dont live in apartments or have to tow trailers or RVs. If someone owns a GMC 3500, they are unlikely to buy an EV to replace it. I suspect RVs and trailers of the future will include battery capacity to keep range higher, but the truck still needs towing/payload capacity to make it possible. I also dont think you can have public charging cost as much as it does if you want the younger generations to buy an EV. They live in apartments and will need public/supercharger availability and it needs to be affordable. A lot more to do, but EV is definitely the future.
As I commented in your previous video on Gas compared to electric, most of my city travel is to work and shopping. about 40 miles a day. My wife even less, and on road trips we tend to stop for at least 30 minutes each time we stop, so plenty of time for charging, and we might take at the most 2 road trips a year. We mostly fly, so for me an EV is perfect. We will be keeping a gas SUV due to just purchasing it a year ago. So, we will have both. But Bro not having to go to the gas station anymore and deal with people parked at the pump but not getting gas, their just parked there because its more convenient than pulling into a spot. I won't miss it a bit. Well, until I have to fill up my wife's SUV
Not going back to ICE.
Me neither!
Better smoother ride is inaccurate, totally depends on brand and model of car whether it is gas or electric
Depends on what "smoother ride" is referring to, suspension or transmission.
As a Lightning owner I can say it’s both suspension and “transmission” are incredibly smoother than ICE counterpart.
Sure, on a road trip it's possible at more costly $.60 or more per kilowatt hour to approach or even exceed the cost of gas. Depends on region and vehicles. But long road trips at higher priced charge stations are outliers. No business spends huge resources addressing outliers The re are a mountain of benefits to electric mobility. The savings in gas in routine trips is just a bonus. Toyota is desperately trying to hold onto pistons and values. They stubbornly refuse to see the worldwide trend toward electric mobility. Toyota may become the next Nokia or Kodak, a once mighty company that would not change and is now a small player in the marketplace. Fossil fuel vehicles will always be around, but they will be the minority of private vehicles in a few years, faster than what many think is possible. In the US there is one political party fighting against the tide. As with Toyota, that party will be far less relevant in the future. Many more EV choices are coming during 2025 to 2027. Compared to 2012 when there were just the Leaf and Model S there has already been a huge change. The present and future are exciting. Drive well.
Thanks for the insightful and well-written comment!
I like the videos you post and let me get one thing out first...I'm a ICE owner now and NOT an EV hater...I hope to have a Tesla Model S one day because if I were to have an EV, then a Tesla is the absolute best since they have a huge head start on everyone...I'm a former military wrench head myself and I don't argue against the engineering advantages of EV's over ICE vehicles, but be more realistic with your number comparisons...I know your biased towards EV's now because they are still somewhat new to you, and they're are some clear advantages with efficiency, but you paid nearly the same amount at a charging station as a gas station...And when you did the math on money spent on filling up your 16 gallon tank on your Mazda, I know your not running that thing completely empty...If anything, you put and average of 10 to 13 gallons in...So that cost figure although still more charging at home and charging stations combined, it doesn't need to be inflated...I'm just saying to keep it 100 with being unbiased...As a former military mechanic, I'm completely unbiased and see the advantages and disadvantages of both, but overall your comparisons are pretty valid...But with all man made vehicles, there's bound to be problems as they age.. So I hope you put out a video about one or both Rivians when it's time to make repairs on them to give other people a idea of what they are in for with the experience of getting their vehicles repaired...I like your Rivians, but that charging network outside of super chargers for Teslas need some serious work...That's one of the main reasons I only will prefer a Tesla, on top of how Tesla's engineering is put together...
speed , now like to see your Gas catch the R1S, no comparison
R1S is a powerful beast.

Things to love about EVs:
1. Child battery labor
2. Range anxiety
3. Risk of garage fires
4. Paying 20k more than a comparable vehicle
5. Battery degredation
6. Poor resale value
7. Reduced performance in cold, highway
8. Higher repair costs
9. Awful charging network experiences in the weather without restrooms
10. Higher insurance rates
11. Replacing tires more frequently
But hey theres a tax credit!
1. The child labor myth was debunked long ago
2. You are conflating range anxiety with a learning curve
3. Hybrids and ICE vehicles have a higher probability of fire than EVs
Mr Tinfoil hat here😅
with 4 thumbs down so far it gos to show how close minded people are
I personally cannot stand having any sort of anxiety, I have too many in my life already. Don't need to add more. My next car will be Toyota Prius plug in hybrid.
Only bad thing about the Prius plug in models vs non plug in Prius (at least the previous models) they don’t have regeneration recharging when braking, coasting or going downhill.
@@coastalhillbilly3419 Yes, a trade off. But I like to just charge it at my house and sacrifice slight degradation in fuel economy.
@@aceventuraaceventura2003 like an electric car? I've had less anxiety with my EV compared to my ICE vehicles. So much less maintenance to worry about. Car is fully charged and ready to go every morning.
@@aceventuraaceventura2003 good move. The Prius Prime is a great car . Probably the best alternative to a BEV out there. No charging anxiety and no range anxiety. It’s the best way to go. Pure BEV will give you anxiety, particularly range and battery degradation.
@@travis5481 Running locally back and forth yes, I agree. But I don't want to buy a car as one trick pony. It's a huge investment to dictate how I should use the car. So hybrid will fit my life style. And I've have Toyotas for many years now and I swear by them. I just change the oil and it keeps running.
Are going to keep your channel……will probably go way down
I bought a 2024 Model Y Long Range at the top of the year. After a couple of months I came back down to earth and realized that car rode God awful. Has to be the worst suspension on planet earth. Ended up trading for a Ford Explorer ST. So I guess I'm in that percentage that went back to gas. I live in Memphis TN so seeing Teslas on a daily basis now, but rarely a Rivian that's for the big boys I suppose.
Surely the Explorer is a nice ride. But if you dropped EV’s just cuz of a Tesla ride issue and didn’t test a Lightning, you may have missed an opportunity to experience a very smooth comfortable ride performance, with lower priced trims than currently in Rivian lineup.
I have heard some complain about the Model Y's stiff ride, but there are many other options such as the Blazer, Mach E, Kia EV6, to name a few.
EVs are definitely coming, but rather later than sooner.
They're here now.
China my have a different take on that.
Thanks for commenting!
The US has been close to that 10% all electric adoption rate the last 3 months. Europe is at 18% and growing. China is at 37% and growing. California is at 25% and growing.
So, to recap,
China is the world's #1 automobile market, is at 37% full EV adoption rate.
The US as a whole is the #2 market, is close to 10% full EV adoption rate.
Europe is the #3 market, is at 18% full EV adoption rate.
And California, which by itself is the world's #5 auto market, is at 25% full EV adoption rate.
They are already better than ICE vehicles for the vast majority of driving.
I am compelled to call this clickbait. Was the title or screenshot relevant to the content of this video? You don't have to hustle people to communicate your message.
Yes, it was all relevant to the video including the video description.
Your video on the Rivian leasing was the primary catalyst to us finally going to EV. The problem I have with your videos are that you are not realistic in estimating the cost to drive. I do not know where you are getting your numbers from but they were wrong. When we got our R1T and I began charging it, I realized... there is no difference between charging the EV and filling up our old ICE pickup. Both cost $41 from 1/4 of a "tank". I'm actually okay with that. The difference as I see it; the R1T is a 7500 pound vehicle, the Frontier was 2400. The R1T is... smooth! The Frontier was like driving Jed Clampetts jalopy.
We have invested a lot in recent years to accommodate the migration to EV's, including a comprehensive solar architecture to offset grid recharging (even in the winter months, like now). It is our future. Sorry you feel compelled to do an about-face.
I just hope that EV sceptics click and watch this video from start to finish. Excellent job.
What's your profession? Seem like an engineer?
Nice job baby face. Still I wouldn’t trust electric car over Gasoline one . What if you get stuck and stranded somewhere no help to find to get to charge.! Gas easier to be delivered. Not to mention average person can’t yet afford such vehicle or have the house in the first place..ie apt renter. Perhaps in 20-30 years at least from now. Best Regards..
only watched through 11:12. you are definitely pro ev, seems like to the point you may not be able to do a honest comparison. just through this point in the vid, seems like your video description was misleading click bait. I do wish that EV's would reach a point or real parity with gas, they just are not there yet and part of the issue is not with the ev itself but with the energy generation grid and distribution system. as an engineer we have to honestly look at each component and the system as a whole is not there yet and even with unlimited money would take 15-20 years to be upgraded and I emphasize with UNLIMITED money. you seem like a nice guy, just really look at the inconvenient facts
@@JeffCrow-sy5ui I am pro facts and data. I bet you liked and agreed with the video titled: Shocking! Electric Vehicles cost 2X as much to Charge as Gas Vehicles. Of course that's if you have to rely on public charging. I stick to the facts and data and I get attacked from all sides. I don't care what people choose to drive or about saving the environment for that matter.
EVs along with solar panels can help people achieve their own energy independence; kind of like growing your own garden instead of relying on grocery stores. But it seems many people rather be dependent on other instead of being self reliant.
Also, read the video description. It is not clickbait. The title is a quote from a comment I received over 100 times.
