So far as I can tell this is the only video on UA-cam that identifies this problem and shows the solution, so well don you. Ps. I too was a big Bergeon fan until one day the penny dropped and realised I was being ripped off. That Bergeon essence jar costs almost £80 here in the UK. You can buy 'two" laboratory grade reagent jars with ground lid for one tenth of that price! Also LUBETA V105 once decanted should be kept out of direct sunlight or better still stored in the dark because sunlight over time will degrade the chemicals which is why it's delivered in a brown bottle.
Nice job. When those reversing gears are that gummed up, I soak them in dip-away (or one-dip) first to loosen up the dried up oil. Then you don't need to clean them for so long in the ultra-sound.
When I received my Bolder expedition I noticed the rotor spinning when wound so I sent it through bolder to be fixed. It was months t get back and was fine. But I don't wear it often enough I guess now a year later and noticed it's having the same issue.
What are the odds that I experienced this problem with my medium GSAR from Marathon this morning. Well within warranty I’m sure it’ll get fixed no problem. Great video
Awesome video. Thank you for posting. I fix some cheaper watches as an occasional hobby and am slowly developing my tool kit (some home made 😉) I come from an engineering/assembly background and was wondering if you use, or really need, a clean air booth? Thank you again. What an awesome video series. 🙏
Hey Watch Doctor! Love your videos man, I'm a silent viewer generally but I have a question. Is there any watches that use hesalite and sapphire, or would that not be feasible? I suppose it may be pointless as I know scratches on hesalite can be buffed out pretty easily, but I wondered if a thin layer of sapphire crystal over a hesalite could combine the scratch resistant properties of the sapphire with the crack resistance of the hesalite. I definitely noticed problems with it myself, a thinner sapphire crystal would presumably make it more prone to cracking etc, but just curious if any manufacturer had ever tried this to your knowledge as I can't find any evidence of such. Cheers and happy new year!
Thanks for the video. I', just starting in the world of watchservicing.... For my first automatic, I used IPA + a drop ofMoebius9010 to dip in the reversing wheels. What do you think?
Hoi Dimitri, wat een prachtige cleaner. Dat uurwerk had wel een service nodig geloof ik..... Bedankt, mag je winkel wel open met de lock-down? Succes in ieder geval en blijf gezond. Fijne feestdagen!
Dag Joop, bedankt :-).
Another beautiful and informative video. You are the king of watch lubrication. Thank you for educating me on the Lubeta V105. I didn't even know it existed. I'd love to buy some, but I haven't worked on an ETA movement in about a year and I'm afraid it will go bad before I need it. I have added a Dumont #2A Tweezer to my wish list though, after watching this video. I've been admiring yours for some time. :-)
Hi. Careful with lubeta. Make sure it’s sealed shut every time you use it. If left open it spoils extremely fast. Also if you know where to use it, 9010 can completely replace lubeta v105. Lubeta v106 isn’t as necesssry as v105 and I’d argue it’s an unnecessaryexpense.
@@burritolover5082 Thanks for the tip, Burrito Lover. I did finally get some V105 for reversing wheels. I can't really say if it is or is not any better. I haven't had any problems with it, though. I do use 9010 for ball bearings on the oscillating weights. I did use a tiny bit of V105 in a small screw cap tube so I didn't risk too much evaporation loss. You're right, what was left turned to crap over time. I'd like to learn where to apply 9010 on reversing wheels so I can avoid the added expense of the Lubeta like you say. :-)
@@bangy55 I also have many many eta movements thrown around (many with working parts ofc) and Rolex parts. What I have most of is old chronograph parts (valjoux, Caliber 11,13,14, ETA, WAKKMANN) and have every technical document for almost every Rolex caliber.
Do you know of a less expensive version of Lubeta V105? I have considered using surgical spirit as its makeup includes a small amount of castor oil, a lubricant. otherwise, a very informative video. Thank you.
I admit it: my brain is slow. I still don't understand why poor lubrication of reversing wheels causes helicoptering of the rotor. if you could explain the underlying details of this failure mode in some future video, i would be grateful. In any case, many thanks for your elegant presentations.
Hello Hasin, if the reversing wheels are good lubricated, it certainly can't hurt. By the way, they are made for that. Almost all automatic watches can also be wound by hand, Seiko is an exception.
I hope you find the key to my local pub inside your watch box. It's been closed throughout the covid lockdown & sadly restrictions aren't likely to be lifted until next year. Take care.
Hello Oatbaa, 2 types of cleaning solutions in the cleaning machine. In the first bath Elma WF PRO (waterless cleaning) and in the next 3 baths Elma Suprol Pro (waterless rinsing). 3 times the same, so that in the last bath the cleaning solution in surely clean. As a alternative you can use Isopropyl alcohol instead of Elma Suprol Pro. (much cheaper)
@@therealwatchdoctor Many thanks for your info. In my country they only have elma red and bergeon non ammonia solution. If I use naptha as rinse solution is it still ok for it?
Hello Roberto, Yes always, and that's very important! This is necessary to be able to dry the spare parts in a rust-free manner. In the watch cleaning machine, water-free solutions are used in the last baths, so that the spare parts cannot rust after drying.
Hai doc I could service 7s26 is that liver coudn't moving correct level even when I reduced the liver bridge nut slightly after that moving what's the issue doctor pls let me know
This happened to my 3 month old Marathon Msar. They replaced the movement under warranty. Great video. Now I understand what was going on. Thanks

Ahhhhhh! Just got recommended this video, and I have this exact problem with a Longines 890.1 movement. Thank you!
Thank you for this video. I just had my Tag repaired and was told it was helicoptering and had worn parts. This explained it.
awesome diagnostics learning; thank you for sharing

I admire your Elma good sir😲, crazy good 👌👍
Thanks, I'm very proud on that's. Used an old Elma cleaning machine for years, but now I have invested in this new machine.
Did you put those parts back into the same container that held them when they were dirty?

nice video , great details , hope to see more video's soon

Hi . ball does a great job and is professional can you tell me what liquid you use to clean the machine
Amazingly good. Is it harmful to hand wind an automatic watch? The reversing wheels spin pretty fast when doing so.
Hello Hasin, if the reversing wheels are good lubricated, it certainly can't hurt. By the way, they are made for that. Almost all automatic watches can also be wound by hand, Seiko is an exception.

Why is winding the eta2824, sellita sw-200 and stp1-11 so hard? There sees to be alot of resistance when winding and a bigger crown helps.

Is it normal that the rotor is noisy?
I just bought a new watch and it's doing the Helecopter Effect when I pull out the crown.
Hi if my watch has a helicopter effect can I repair it under guarantee?
You can try, I suspect that the watch sat idle for a long time before it was sold.
Damn that reversing wheel is brown. Is it rusty? Or simply discolored
