Cool lesson Marty! I love one from the vault version. Right outside this lazy summer home...
Got about half of it the first time through, but I'll be trying it again in a couple of hours, slowing down the fast in between parts. 😀 Really love how that beginnings sounds. I had a different song same title, in my head starting out, but like this one too! 😊
Oooooo happy Friday! One of the best!
Same to you!
Awesome! Favie dead song great pik!!! Thanks man!!
Nice job!
Excellent!!!
ayyyy Marty with another Dead Lesson 🌹 ⚡️
Straight vibe👍
Yes!! Love me some dead!
Too many wonderfully beautiful songs by the Dead to list, but this one does show up quite often on my mind's everlasting playlist loop. I've slowly been working on this one on guitar. Even at my level, I can tell this song lends itself to such endless expressive and creative exploration. Maybe it's the slightly jazzy sound thanks to the Maj7, the key changes, chord choices, and the solo usually being played over the Emaj7-Bm vamp, a I - v, assuming we're thinking of the vamp as being in E Major, although I think it could be seen as a Dorian vamp, maybe; i.e., Bm-Emaj7 or i - V? Those of you with more experience than me, which is most of you, can definitely correct me on all this.
Thanks!
I love this song! :)
Thank you Marty! More dead please!
Thank you for doing this. Now I can finally play this song correctly hahaha
great guiter song lesson.thanks a lot for the tutorial.
Glad you liked it!
Nice! I'd love to see Franklins Tower in a future video.
he posted a franks tower a few years ago im sure you could find it:)
Ah thanks. I'll go look for it.
I would use the alternate easier fingerings too. Great lesson, great tune
Jam it Marty, you know you just wanna let loose and go my brother been wit you long time 😊
Hey Marty! Do you plan to do more metal in the future? Would love to see tougher metal tutorials! Esp outro solo to Fade to Black :)))
Great lesson. Some Dead hard to figure outyou make easy to learn. Just watched Bob Weir play "Acoustic"version Dark Star.. maybe teach that too
More Dead always!!!
Hey Marty cool lesson.. In the intro I think you are 100% right playing that last "E" in the "C" shape in the 4th fret. It is a tough stretch; even for some intermediate players, and it is tough to nail in the tempo and groove of the song. The second chord (which is kind of a passing chord) I play in a straight AM shape. The intro is a little tough depending on your level, however, it is 100% worth the work to get it because The Dead are constantly using that "C" voicing/shape . If you're a big Dead fan, or just an advancing guitarist (u have all your open chords, all your barres, working on scales and inversions etc.) those are the exact kind of skills to be working on when you get kind of stuck on what to practice.. IMO. Work on nailing that "C"" shape with your pinky fretting the A string while keeping all the notes clear. That will keep you busy for a while.. Awesome vid Marty ..
So goood
Have a Jerry Good Weekend y'all
I love your lessons! Do you have a place we can find the chords you are using?
Great video... one note is that I find for the 2nd and 3rd verse that you just play (A C#m B A) then go into (Emaj7 A Emaj7 Bm A) instead of in the first verse where it goes (A C#m B A C#m B D A) then into (Emaj7 A Emaj7 Bm A) ... what an amazing song!!
What a gorgeous song and what a great lesson! There's this song She got Arrested by The Interrupters, and I'm totally unable to find the right chords or tab. Could you do a guitar lesson covering that? It would be great, and I'm sure other people will also like it

The alternate version at 5:44 sounds different. It is not the same chord in a different position correct? Which way did the Dead play it?

Ever heard of Nick Drake or the Incredible String Band?
@Martymusic
I can play pretty decent lead guitar, but lack on the voicing of advanced chords, triads/inversions, and progressions.
Could you give an advanced rhythm lesson?
Include Major/minor 7th chords and how to build them and the difference between them an dominant 7ths.
How to build 6, 9, and 13 chords and how to voice them in a progression
When to add a minor chord in a major progression, vice verse when to add a major chord in a minor progression
And how/when to change and when not to change keys in a solo over a progression
And anything else you can think of.
This would be to an awesome masterclass I think you could create.
