Back in the day (before computers and social media) my dad would turn out the lights, smoke, and listen to mystery theatre. We shared a one room cabin and it was fun and scary listening to the programs all the while eyeing the glow from his cigarette. This brought back so many memories listening to this. Thank you.

Doesn't have the same feeling, but then it's been a long time since 1972, falling asleep to a new event, every night! Love EG Marshall, the scary, creaky door!
This was a truly suspenseful and frightening episode!!! Thanks a ton for Sharing this, Chesterton Radio! Admittedly, the story took a turn and twist that I totally wasn't expecting! Sensational acting from the entire cast that created very vivid images of the action and emotions, while I was listening!!
My first thought was like Jake!!! I never heard of this but being a 24 year old with a old soul (no social media lol) and a lover of Rod Sterling twilight zone and a few other great ones along with audiobooks .....I had to listen! 💕💕💕💕💕 Love it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thank you! I will be binge listen as I write.
I remember these as a kid, listening to my radio late at night. That intro music was always scary! Reminded me of the music on the TV series Dark Shadows....
Got my oil lamp! Just missing the can of Prince Albert and bottle of Johnny Walker...smell of macasser oil and bay rum. Not sure i belong in this timeline, lol!
Couldn't figure out if the characters were naive or plain stupid until the last sentence. Naming their daughter after a homicidal maniac clinched the deal for me. No amount of naivety can explain _that_ .
This was made in the 1970s, as I understand but it sounds like it was made in the 1930s or 40s. Brilliant script. Had me thinking and guessing throughout. This would make an excellent movie.
You are correct and Linda is observant. CBS RMT had to recycle a lot of scripts from 1930’s and 1940’s radio, but they were updated with one or two lines to make them seem recent. The “I served in Vietnam” line is but one example. It was still a great show and I loved it as a young boy.
Needs a darker screen.. I love Radio Mysteries.. I listened to them in Colorado Springs, CO.. I cannot remember the radio station.. But, I really enjoyed the programs..
Why would she stay the night somewhere where two people clearly don't want her there and are being really unpleasant to her?! And why would Jack invite her to his house where his wife and Mother in law live? Why do they all do what Florence says? How did she get away with hacking her Father in law to death. Ridiculous 🙄
She didn’t get away with it, she was put in an asylum for nine years, and she escaped that afternoon. You obviously missed a very important part. Hope this helps.
I have episode suggestions you should listen to. Sleepy village is a good story. I have a few more for you. Hickory, dickory, Doom and the real printer's devil are two spooky tales. Strange company is another good one. They are all from the radio mystery theater. Enjoy.
That is exactly what I was wondering!! She kills Jacks father and attempts to burn the rest of them to death and they name their child after her??? Don't you usually do that to honor someone? Other then that, this was a top notch thriller......!

Thanks for sharing this cool memory
Keep these retro Radio 📻programs coming to me they will never go out of style 😎.
I detest social media, don't watch new tv or movies, Netflix, nothing. I read books, and listen to radio dramas. Thank you for uploading!

There is a total of 1339 of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater: I am currently on number 369
We will never know how many tragic situations we have been saved from by being rejected.
This is true.
Amen 🙏

Such fun!!! Thank you. Florence is sooo crazy wacko. Fantastic acting. Loving it!!!
Thanks!!
Loved listening to these growing up with my mom on WOR NYC…so many memories

Love the Mystery Theater! I used to listen to it every night when I was younger! Still love it!
This episode was riveting! One of my very favourites thus far❤
CBSRMT is always good but this episode is exceptional. Really kept me on the edge of my seat. Keep 'em coming!
Huge Chesterton fan here. And fan of old school radio shows. This is wonderful!! Thank you!

Ditto. I was very disappointed when they took it off the air
Still scares me!
@@John-wc4xu Me too.
Oh just love these. I don't have a tv since everything on there is crap. So radio and audible it is.
What a great episode! Thank you for posting!
Excellent episode. Listened on May 19, 2021.
July 3rd 😂
@@Blonde_Somnambulist if you have the time, please listen to an episode called hickory dickory doom. It's the scariest episode I ever heard.

Yes. It had me confused when Joe said that he had been in Vietnam.

Excellent story! The actors were great! 👍🏼
Who ever took the role of Florence did The Full Bette Davis at the end, top quality!
That woman who played florence, deserved an radio oscar for her superb performance. Shades of "hush, hush sweet charlotte".
Anne Seymour I believe.
Awesome shows. The shows are masterfully done and EG Marshall is great !
Great story! Thanks for loading it.
"What are you gonna do, murder me with an axe?" quote from man murdered by woman with an axe.
The one thing that stops these CBS shows from being great to listen to while you try to go to sleep is that ***** creaking door at the start!!!
That squeaking sound was actually Himan Brown’s chair in his CBS office. There are a lot of fascinating stories about this show.
What a lovely couple. Ha.

Entertainment is not necessarily logical.
@@catherinecookson225 True. I enjoyed it anyway. Just a bit silly. I generally prefer my entertainment to be believable within context.

Thank you!!! I was reading thru the comments wondering when someone else would point this out! The whole set-up was ridiculous!
All those questions are answered in the story -- it moves pretty fast so you can't really be multi-tasking.
Love it.
great mystery theater.
Just in time to wind down my day
Good one👏
I’m brand new and this is awesome. It’s the best channel I’ve listened to in a long time. 🖤💚🖤💚

Fire fire! She sounds like Beavis from Beavis and Butt-Head! LoL 😆
please include airing dates🙂
So two grown men can't overpower one mad woman ?
I was just thinking the same thing.
A mad woman with a gun. One or both have to be willing to die.
I guess in the early 70s is when men started to lose their masculinity🥰
Great episode! Loved the suspense!
Another great episode to listen to is one called the devil's boutique. It will leave you in suspense.
Just don't ever show Little Florence where you keep the axe.
The husband is just as loco as the wife
Amy was dim as a light bulb.
Sounds like someone is cheating on their wife…. 🤨
Florence is Mrs. Tarbell from Pollyanna.
great
Amy definitely is telling the truth.
This is the best story that I ever heard.
❤❤❤❤ from England
Why on earth would they name a child after Florence??
That was the scariest part of the whole story!

E.g. Marshall is on creepshow. those bugs. and suspense. much more.
Oh yes she was !!!
Why would they name their daughter Florence? Oh boy
What's wrong with Florence? One of my aunties was called Florence.
Why would they name their daughter after the woman who tried to kill them?
I agree. Florence is a nice name. However, what I meant (and as Harper's pointed out) this Florence tried to kill them all.
I have two episodes to recommend to you. Sagamore cottage is another good one. Escape, esa
@@junedaniels399 another good episode of radio mystery theater is escape, escape. A twist ending.
Yikes!
Then named her daughter Florence? 🤔 🤷🏼♀️.
Good wishes to you x

So many things went wrong!!
Many thanks👍🏻🌼🌺✌️

This is insane. Great first two acts. Off the rails third act.
I was saying the same thing. Sounds like betty Davis. Entailing. Good acting.
It's not bette Davis . The voice is far too deep!! Bette Davis spoke more eloquent!!
Ok. Thank you. I appreciate your response.
Cast??? Amy sounds like Teresa Wright from Best years of our lives.
I would say ok I’m walking to the train station Florence and you can pick me up en route (not).
Bad melodrama is very funny.
Florence is just too friendly. To me, that gave the game away that something was wrong here.
Ridiculous story.must have felt desperate to keep listening thinking it would improve
Could it have been? 🤭
Riveting!!!
I found these particular character personalities rather irritating,..with the possible exception of Joe, who seemed the most genuine.
😳
Not one of their best plays. Felt like the producers gave up the ghost.
@whovian girl
Really???? I thought it was quite good, even if its a bit improbable.
Not good.
What a load of rubbish.
