Very good video as always. I have just one question. How did you know, that you have to replace the "VIPER22A" IC? The diode and the button is obvious but this one not so for me. Thank you for advance.
The Viper22A chip is a fixed frequency switching chip. www.st.com/resource/en/datasheet/viper22a-e.pdf As seen from the diagram, it basically acts as a 60 kHz switching mosfet with a feedback input from the transformer for current regulation. While the chip is powered off, the SOURCE and DRAIN pins should not have continuity in either direction. In this case, they do so the chip is bad. But you really don't have to go this far in diagnosis to know its bad because it had a scorch mark under the legs. The bad diode is also not a normal diode, it's either a fast recovery diode or a schottky diode. These diodes are required because of the high switching frequency, using a normal diode will not work and result in circuit failure.
@@GGigabiteM Ok, thank you for the answer. But what is the error sign that shows the chip need to be replaced. Sorry, I am not so familiar with chips, but I am curious.
@@ecsediimre8739 If the main fuse did its job properly, then there will be no signs, just a non-working thing. In this case, you will need to use a multimeter to check components that are possible to check with it (continuity, shorts and resistances) to be sure they're in spec. Capacitors require a specialized tester (LCR meter or a capacitance tester) and advanced function tests of other components require more expensive equipment. You can diagnose and repair most SMPS issues with just a multimeter and LCR meter, but you need to know what you're doing. If the fuse didn't do its job (not blow at all or blow late) then expect to see varying levels of carnage. ICs blowing their packages apart is common, which can be so violent that it will put craters or holes into the PCB they're mounted to. Charring and fire is also common. A mild failure condition would be a crater in the IC package, or a hole somewhere on the chip with soot blown out, usually near or at a leg. Legs can also be blown off or vaporized entirely if there's enough current shorted through it.
This guy is an an assassin. The way he brokes the micro plugs with a screw driver! And what is he pretending to measure in the circuit!? The best part is when he baths every thing.... What a con man!
Blu Ray players can often be found at thrift stores now for $10 or less. (DVD players even less) Repairing DVD players is no longer economical for money or time.
@Theonlyengineer "If you had the option of one for free that needed a bit of time cleaning would you not take it?" I would not. DVD players are way too plentiful now. If it was a Blu Ray then yes, but not a DVD player.
Oh my god!! I had to make a.second post .. this guys hands r so nasty .. the best part of the video is when the gloves finally cover up those dirty alien fingers ,to clean the parts with soap and water . Which is funny because those hands need the soap and water a lot more than any of those parts
Cleaning the DVD laser eye with a q-tip soaked in alcohol would ensure a bit better read reliability of the player. Also a clean of the spindle contact surface could have done with a touch up... Left and Right volume pots could have been lubricated with WD-40 or similar lubricant... Why didn't you try using the player with a DVD? You must have known that it wouldn't read... Overall a very average restoration... 6/10
California MP-128 disc player, one of the best-selling models in Vietnam
Long live the hands, it does not work from the dirt accumulated on it, it swam and came back clean. This is the year 2000.
I think it’s wonderful how you fix things !!! To me it’s better then running out to by new all the time !
Good morning, I follow your videos here from Brazil, I think your work is fantastic, I do not lose any restoration of yours !!!!!
Mr. Electricity does it again, great job!👍
Great restro...nice to see a restorer who doesn't cover everything in mud before he starts!...
Restauração perfeita! Perfect restoration!
Good work Done 👍
Thumbs up 👍
👏 👏 👏
انت رجل عبقري بامكانيات متواضعه جدا
Nice vedio and restoration,, thumbs up!
You are simply remarkable.
What is the solution you use to wipe the PCB boards clean?
Thank god there isn't a fake story that you brush painted it with mud just to make it worse
Shut up stop it no one put sand on anything

good job love seeing you fix stuff up nice
DVD playback? is the laser dead?
Your work good
Congratulation
No dirt on it? I see almost every restorer have mud on their stuff but this one has nothing
in my case, here in Paris, 9 times out of 10 the problem is a dead laser that cost more than the machine itself...
I see worn hands, those hands have worked a lot!! I mean really a lot.

I've got a 2009 Apple Macbook I would like you to look at!
Great job as always!
What are you using to clean the circuit board?
90%+ isopropyl alcohol (the higher the better so that it evaporates and won't corrode anything)
Thank you!
I usually use pig piss because there piss has high acid concentrate to eat corrosion
@@jets1230 Every time I've tried it everything squeals too much. Maybe wrong pigs?
The REAL test is with a dvd disk. Not a usb drive.
You are very very good
nice job grand father are you from china or korea !
