I love Empty so much. It was a song that she wrote when she was hospitalized for herniated disk in 2018, a very hectic year for MAMAMOO. She talked about the loneliness she felt and how it inspired her to write the song in her Talking Lyrics video in 2019 ua-cam.com/video/jCSAKqtXPSY/v-deo.html. She also mentioned recently in a radio saying that it was a song produced based on the sensitivity she felt at the time when she watched busy cars on the streets in early morning at the hospital and wondered where they were going. There are actually 3 versions of Empty. The first draft version that she released 4 years ago on her birthday ua-cam.com/video/i60FkcbyLyQ/v-deo.html in 2020 after first mentioned in the Talking Lyrics. The first full version revealed in her 2024 birthday fan meeting ua-cam.com/video/AB7s4-Zpe6s/v-deo.html. The final studio version as we hear here from COLOURS album where she made it even more crazy, vocally and composingly speaking. It could easily be my favorite if Colors, But I, and Blue don't exist^^
She explains on solarsido Empty is about the time she ruptured a disk in her back and was basically alone in the hospital recovering. She does point out in the that video that she has done a number of songs with Honey in the title, even shows a clip of each, this one is a person who who is extra sweet. This album forced me to finally make a separate playlist for Mamamoo Solo albums, since Wheein and moonbyuls new albums are also great. Really, if the sun went out today, I would not notice because Solar exists.
Solar was inspired to write Empty by her feelings when her visitors went home during her hospital stay for a bad back. I'm a bit embarrassed but I find myself reading the lyrics of Honey Honey as describing oral sex. I don't think Solar really meant them that way, but she could have. I do love both songs but the best is yet to come.
