    Those 175 grain are shooting same speeds as real world 7prc 175 eldx.. seems Hornady is pumping their numbers a bit and the 6.8 western is much more on par with it than we originally thought?

    Just picked up an X bolt Hells Canyon Speed in 6.8 Western and I am flat out impressed. Working on ballistics but the recoil with the brake very tame and in a full set up rifle under 8.5 lbs with the capabilities it has, it’s one hell of a hunting rifle.

    Nice numbers! The 6.8 Western seems to combine the best qualities of the .308 WIN short action round and the high velocities of the .30-06 Springfield. I hope the 6.8 Western gets more popular among those who want bullet weights heavier than the .270 WIN but with the long range stability of the less powerful 6.5 Creedmoor.

    • @devinb3397

      The 6.8 western has better perforomance. The old 270 can’t usually handle anything more than 150gr, which is where the 6.8 shines with 165 and 175. And if you put a 130gr in the 6.8 itd still shoot quicker than the 270. The 6.8 is 7mm rem mag performance

    • @devinb3397
      @devinb3397 3 роки тому

      @@kingfisher302 using less bullet eight doesn’t save meat. Sometimes using more actually will. @roadkillanonymous4807 3 роки тому +1

      Same bore diameter and both equipped with a twist rate to stabilize heavier bullets than the original .270 Winchester. cartridge.
      The sig round is a much smaller case, less powder capacity, but utilizes a hybrid case design featuring a steel head that can withstand 80,000 psi chamber pressure without issue while standard cartridges (like this 6.8 western) all have to stop around 65000 psi as the brass in the cartridge head will start to “flow” at pressures much higher than this.
      The 6.8 western is still a significantly more powerful cartridge.

    • @Stigstigster
      @Stigstigster 3 роки тому +1

      Still too low for that. For a real ballpark figure multiply the metres per second by 3 to get close enough to the FPS to know this isn't a metric issue. Where he got 228 on the chronograph that means it should be around 690 feet per second, not nearly enough for it to have been in metres per second. The true conversion on 228 m/s is 748 FPS so it's only a rough guide to a ballpark figure.
      It's a good point you raised though, very expensive spacecraft and rockets and probably lots of other things have been destroyed because of calculation errors caused by mixing the two units!

      I could, but I don't have any antelope tags this year. All the states with antelope you gotta get drawn

      If you can only get within 600 yards of an antelope you're doing something wrong. I shoot them with 100 grain 243, usually about 200 yards.

    Hate the Chrono problem but it looks like they all should be close to 2900 out of 22 to 24 inch barrel with good twist rate. Military is looking into using a 6.8 × 51mm round. Like 6.8 bc info better than 6.5mm. Thanks

    Made for a good video but in all reality you've decided in a previous video that the match bullets shoot the best an will be used to stretch out to 1000yrds++ so why waste them hunting bullets since you don't really need the data for those. Just saying. On a side note. Keep it up an cheers 🎯

      For everyone else to have the data. For long range hunting, etc

    2 is not enough to get a realistic average. If I need a solid number i shoot 5.

      @@WHOTEEWHO it sucks to have to shoot more to get the numbers. but having reloaded for along while and tested a lot of rounds, 4 is my bare minimum, 5 is preferred, and 7 is ideal if checking velocity to get a good number. its not fun to load up that many test rounds on a balance bean scale. and its certainly not fun to shoot 5 out of a box of 20. but it will more accurately tell you how fast your ammo is going. and more importantly, how consistent the ammo is shot to shot. your SD and ES. shooting long range your SD and ES are king.

Lol. With how you get info on bullets. You need a lab radar. Offffffffhhh there 800$ seems like you need a sponsor........
