What did you do when you used to run two stroke with carbs on?

Neat! You use the standard self-righting technique used for whitewater rafts. However, I am amazed the outboard is so tolerant of getting water in the cylinders.

      John Kailua agreed!

Super late to this but the outboard is specially designed for it, mariner made it just for the RNLI so they're super sought after

@@bmar400 It looked as though there was enough water coming out of the spark plug holes when they pulled it over to more than fill up the combustion chambers with the piston at TDC. The only way I can think of to avoid bending the connecting rod or blowing off the cylinder head when the piston hits solid water on the way to TDC would be to design a very fast acting relief valve into the cylinders. Very clever design if you can make it work.

John, the method of rerighting an inflated raft predates white water raft flip overs. (And Polynesian outrigger canoes have been rerighted since their invention.)

@@alee3146 I suspect you are right. I used to be a whitewater raft guide, so that's where I learned the technique.

That's not easy to do. I learned how to right an overturned canoe. But it was a lake and not out far as you appear to be and all that moving water and wet cloths. Then if the weather is sour you will have your hands full. My hat is off to you guys. God bless you and your family's.

Thank you Katherine - our lifesavers are truly amazing, skilled people, that's for sure!

If the seas are squirrelly enough to overturn, flip over and turtle a boat then changing the plugs might not be so calm perhaps. I’d maybe stream a (jury rigged) sea anchor to try to keep the head into the seas while fiddling with the engine.

Deploying the sea anchor is within the RNLI D-class Capsize SOP.
