    I love this version! Neil really lets the song breathe. But it works well done electric too. The man can do no wrong!

    The lyrics is great 👍. I like the acoustic . Good story . I like when he throws in his little perks . He is very animated singing this song . A cheeseburger and new Rolling Stone . Ha Ha We love you Mr Neil 🤠

    Just a bit of trivia about this great song performed in Toronto...Neil's dad was in the audience. I saw him walk down to his seat before the show. He had written a book called "Neil and Me" a couple of years earlier. It's a great read for any Neil Young fan.

      I met Scott Young (Neil's Dad) at the Aug 18, 1988 Toronto show. I gave him a copy of an essay I'd written about Neil's experience with polio when he was 5 years old in 1951. Scott focused on this story in a chapter in "Neil & Me." I wrote the essay for a course on the history of science and medicine in Canada at the University of Western Ontario in early 1988. My essay was later published in the NYAS "Broken Arrow" fanzine in 1989 (issue #36). You can read my essay at:

    This is the version he should have included on "Bluenote Cafe." The shorter, electric version is great, but not that much different than what ended up on "Freedom." It was incredible to be at the Toronto show to see him debut such an unreleased epic song; I captured it on cassette and figured out the lyrics. A little later in the show he upped his game further and debuted "Ordinary People," the full live original version of which is included on "Bluenote Cafe."

      agreed!

    • @harmkuijpers6642
      @harmkuijpers6642 4 роки тому

      Don't quite agree. I think Neil tried to emulate the concert experience, as in the sequencing of the whole thing. The August 27 version of CITC has some raw energy that I would have missed. Having both wouldn't have fit. Archives Vol 4 and/or Road of Plenty it'll have to be.

    Thanks Christopher. Found the link to this complete version on Rolling Stone. One for the hard core fans, they wrote. With I’m the Ocean, Change your Mind, etc. Pretty good choice to me. The more these songs go, the more they become a loop we’re getting lost in, a mantra we’re getting higher and higher with. Tulsa was not the last trip he took us with. Last time he used some psychedelic pill Driftin us Back with him.

    There are hints of Dylan’s “Watchtower,” but it’s like Neil takes on the role of the “rider...approaching” and provides his own howling wind.

      Indeed...Neil & Bob both prolific song writers. I've followed Neil since the very early 70's. I think he's more talented on the harmonica than Bob Dylan. He also plays the piano very well. Multi-talented.

      Hank Peganoff There is RTBP on bass, and I think the guitar is Poncho Sampedro. I can't see very well, and I am not sure at all, but I know he played with Rick and the Bluenotes . It was about at that time. Ralph on drums I guess.
