Great video. Pity she has been neglected and is in the state she is in. She is now on the hardstand at CIVMEC HENDERSON WA waiting to be scrapped. Have one video, up showing her, hopefully will have another one in a weeks time
What a crying shame that this piece of Australia's naval history is being left to rust. I only hope that Otama is saved before she ends up like the HMVS Cerberus.
Another Sub, because a video about a sub, I spent a day on one of these 'O boats' back in the day (1980's) don't remember which particular one, but I do remember the conditions on them. I hope they restore it soon..
Yes. I remember the engines were hard against the walls and the walkway between them would not have been more than a foot wide. Funny the captain had to request the engineer's permission to enter or pass through the engine room. Captains bunk was aft of the engine room.
I was Commissining Crew in April 1978 at Grennock on the Clyde River, She was the last of Our Six Oberons and within the Squadron, was known as the Gucci Boat [as She always had class]. Always makes me sad to see Her swinging on that Buoy, She could tell many Stories. Send Her to Qld, we'll look after her. Plankowner SS-62 Rick Fishbourne. [Ex ABROSM] 13th May 2022
Hi Rick. Seems like many ex-O boats submariners retired to Queensland, myself and half a dozen others near me. I remember Otama, she followed Orion like a little sister. Orion the mighty hunter. Do you remember Wilkie my favourite RO. I think he is on eternal patrol? Cheers Soapy ex POETPSM.
I always wanted to see a submarine when I was a kid after watching the American submarine film down periscope I did visit HMAS Onslow at Sydney's maritime museum back then I didn't know there was a sub in Victoria looking at Otama she is in really bad shape she needs to be drydocked maybe floating drydock that sub can't reach to Melbourne in this bad condition though now sadly due to covid she's gonna be like that for so long rust is eating her away
@@maxchapple1332 Hi max thanks for letting me know Ive been wanting to go down have a look but its a bit out of my area maybe when look down opens again soon.
Unfortunately the next stop for this old U-boat will most likely be the scrap heap, the funds required are just not available, not many wealthy benefactors interested in its restoration.
I was at her launch in Greenock, Scotland. Seems like yesterday.

One of the most beautiful place to fly drones in Victoria. I went there last month and filmed it by my drone, it was an amazing experience.

Nice video , but that’s not the engine room to an Oberon / porpoise class submarine .

Unfortunately it will be on the bottom soon 😢😢
Can't believe it what a waste very sad.
It's on the bottom now. She is in shallow water
It`s now partially sunk and laying at an angle after the latest storm.
Thanks for letting us know I'll have to go down to have another look.
@@alvingaissl3700 it has been pumped out, Turned around and been towed into shallower water closer to the beach.
