Yes, incredibly fascinating! Thanks for the in-depth info on this remarkable estate with mind-blowing history. Great "speal" - looking forward to the next one.
Very interesting. The buildings were very expensive. Beautiful architecture. It is good 😊 that the approach to mental health has evolved. The 19th and 20th centuries were cruel and demoralizing to people. The stigma towards mental health is still here but we know and understand it better. Enjoyed your video and the informative interesting and educational narrative.
I go to Marist and always wondered what the gothic architecture across the street was. Now I know! Thanks :) also there’s a shopping center there now called “Hudson heritage”. I wonder what the correlation is.
Yes so the Hudson Heritage project is a mixed use development that is utilizing the majority of the old HRSH campus. They are currently restoring the admin building as well as a few others on the sight however most of what they are building is new using recycled materials from the old buildings. From the concept art they've shown of the finished product, a lot of the newer architecture is going to include gothic elements taken from the original hospital buildings.
When I attended the CIA I use to go on bike rides and I sometimes rode up an abandoned road that led to the hospital. I used it as a warm-up since it had a nice rising gradient. The first time I got to the top I was looking at the hospital, didnt know what it was until I heard the first screams and then I knew, from then on I called it my "lunatic ride".
@@TheCesspool_ Ok, I know its not interesting to most people but seeing the video reminded me of the place and I really liked my time in that part of the country.
really great info. Thanks a lot. Really enjoyed the Danvers one too. A friend of mines mah worked there for a time. I'll have to ask her if she has any stories. Thanks again - great work!
And the crazy part is that these buildings were already here. Just repurposed into their makings. Ever background story of these robber barons is always a lie.
How I wish more of these institutions open up throughout the entire Nation. Get all the crazy homeless committed and the derelicts jailed. How our streets need a good cleanup!
I think these places could be used again Restore them and let residents farm and learn self sufficiency and skills . I just don't see our country ever going back to this type of care . My aunt was in a sanitarium upstate NY..I remember going there as a small child. The ride from Watertown was hours .. Sad place too
That’s 26 wasted minutes of my time I’ll never get back. Wasn’t very impressed with this. The script is what I imagine a 7th graders report to be like, nothing original, word for word from another source. 🤷🏻♀️.
Appreciate the criticism but just want to make it clear that this was entirely written by us at The Cesspool, a couple of high school students, so I wouldn't expect the world from us. These videos are just made for fun after all so they are as good or well written as we decide to make them. If you didn't enjoy the video, you didn't have to watch all 26 minutes.
@@TheCesspool_ I think the videos are very well done! And to know you are in high school..very impressive! My only constructive criticism would be for you to begin the question the mainstream narratives. There is much much more to the stories of these asylums, but you have to read between the lines to learn them☺️ Hint: Look up “mud floods”, “resets”, “orphan trains”, “infantoriums”. and other hidden history... there is much to uncover! Keep digging, guys. Have fun, and may God bless your journey🤍
thank you for doing this my dad worked there for 35 years. he has dementia now and loved the video
Glad you and you father enjoyed!
My grandfather was director of Hudson River State Hospital from 1950 till his death in 1957. He was O.Arnold Kilpatrick I’m Michael Arnold Kilpatrick
How far from Jefferson county NY was this hospital?
He was so happy smile on his face said he had a great time at the place ❤.

I spent almost 2 years at Hillcrest Academy about 1962-64
I’ve explored this hospital back in 2016 thanks so much for sharing the history of this amazing place
Wow that must've been an incredible experience. I would've loved to see it in it's decayed state.
@@TheCesspool_ its still there, without some of the buildings tho

Hydrotherapy for weeks? Months? How horrible! Great video!
In 100 years society will in all likelihood have the same reaction to treatments we consider normal.
My boyfriend was at the 2006 fire, working the fire as a firemen. He is actually seen in that picture!
Wow that must've quite an intense experience. Thanks for watching!
Good documentary, but please slow down it's hard to keep up and take in the information

We’re young ladies sent to this hospital to deliver newborns and adopt the baby for a price?
I’ve seen these hot baths my self there shits crazy
Used to hang here everyday
We must re-open the asylums, and put the crazy people back in !
What if they say you meet the criteria and you have to go? Are you going to go?
@@therealjayseh I do not, I am sane.
@@Shield.148 they'll be the judge of that. You'll have a score and everything that you've ever done, they'll know where you go. Don't worry !!
I understand that a Catholic excorcist had an office at this hospital.
The background music and the AI voice are irritating
Apologies, my microphone at the time really was rough. It was my actual voice though, not ai.
