I was not prepared for what I heard. I was not familiar with the song, the composer or the soloist. Imagine my shock when the piece started and this amazingly controlled and emotionally glorious sound took flight. The soloist's voice wraps the audience in peace and beauty. I am so glad I found this video. It's an incredibly moving experience.
Thank you so much for your inspiring comment!
iceland = perfect
Thank you. I taught her everything she knows.
The soprano elevated the piece to a heavenly masterpiece! :)

@@hallveigrunarsdottir849 You deserve all compliments. From one musician to the other. I play piano version of this piece. You singing it is an inspiration to me.
Quant'è bella questa musica. Quant'è bella questa voce...
One word describes this interpretation: BEAUTIFUL
Thank you so much!
Exquisitely done. Just learned about this piece from a Vikingur Olafsson NPR mini concert, a "Tiny Desk Concert", where this was his final piece, and I just had to find it and hear it sung! It's a masterpiece.
same story, my friend.
Lindo!
Ouvi essa composição tocada por um pianista islandês , Vikingur Olafsson, fiquei pesquisando até chegar nesse vídeo maravilhoso. Obrigada meu Deus ❤
Hearing Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson playing this song on NPR Tiny Desk (on UA-cam) brought me here.
“It’s a song very often played at the darkest moments in our lives,
to give hope and to bring light … I’m so happy to see that the message
of this Ave María is universal”
--Víkingur Ólafsson
Maravilhoso!
Quelle merveille !!! Si dieu existe , il doit se dire qu’il y a beaucoup de talents sur terre ,Merci pour le partage
Exquisitely performed
CPRRECTION! MAGNIFICENT!!!!
🙌🏻Belíssima!
Sigvaldi, I can not watch you again: you make strange stuff happen to me. First the my hair raises, then tears start rolling out of eyes!!! No more, I am a tough guy, and tough guys don't cry. I am done with you! OK, I will listen to your interpretation of Ave Maria- just once more, then I am done!
Sigvaldi was the composer. Hallveig is the singer and she's one of our best.
@@svalajonsdottir Thank you for the clarification; my knowledge of Icelandic language is very poor... I was mesmerized by the voice of Hallveig and the area, was composed originally by Gounot, if I recall correctly so incorrectly assumed that Sigvaldi was the singer. Is Sigvaldi the Composer of the area or just the arranger for this performance???
@@Csantos1941 Sigvaldi Kaldalóns is the composer
There are numerous versions of Ave Maria - perhaps the most famous in the US is by Schubert, with a different composition by Gounod also very beloved. This Icelandic composition is completely independent of those prior versions.
I adore this interpretation of Ave Maria by Ms Rúnarsdóttir. It got me through lockdown 1.0 pretty well on a loop! Is it available to buy/download, please?
Thank you so much for your lovely comment! unfortunately it is not as of now available for download, but I will pass this on to the Icelandic Symphony 🥰
Takk fyrir!
