It's an amazing feeling to find an object or artifact and to know you are the first to expose it to sunlight. The first sunlight it has "seen" for hundreds to thousands of years.
I love that tea mug and the Coty compact. Good job you recognized that the grenade was not exploded and notified the officials quickly. That was not a tiny pop.
My Dad, his father and grandfather and extended family all worked at the Woolwich Arsenal making guns back into the 1800's ............. My Dad was definitely at 'the arsenal' in the 1930's, he might even have used that mug! Thanks for the memory and so wonderful to see something so tangeable of a time long passed......... Great find. @@sharlotterhine167 Those are Eurasian coots. They belong to the rail family. We don't have that species in America, but a sister species, the American coot, is quite common in Texas. You see it mostly on lakes and ponds, especially in shallow water.

Thank you. I loved seeing that Royal Ordnance mug. My Granddad was is the RO Constabulary, and he was based at Woolwich. He eventually rose to the rank of Inspector and he was awarded the British Empire Medal in 1953. Earlier he served in the Royal Field Artillery (another Woolwich institution). He joined up in 1907 at the age of 15 and was a Battery Sargeant Major by the end of WWI.
Yet another absolutely superb video thank you very much, the footage of the coots and the goslings was just adorable! So interesting to hear stories from your viewers, it’s always amazing to think how something you’ve dug out of the dirt can have a real connection to other people. Thanks again 🤓
I still find it amazing that with the amount of rocks & stones on the foreshore that things as delicate as pipes & pottery stays intact , wish my history lessons were this interesting when I was at school I might have studied harder . My father couldn't be drafted for WWII because he had rheumatic fever just prior to getting the draft notice and it left him with a heart murmur. He did work as a contractor for the U.S. government helping to rebuild the airfields on Oahu, HI. He saved the Honolulu newspaper with the headline that the Japanese surrendered. I still have it. The grass skirt bit the dust a few decades ago.

We've thought of a cool idea (you may have already thought of this) of putting together a mosaic of a seafaring man made from sea glass and broken bits of the clay pipes. Absolutely loved this episode! I always feel a little tug on the heartstrings when I hear any mention of the Blitz or V.E. day. My Mother was a London girl from West Ham and was in the A.T.S. during the war. She drove an Ambulance and I remember her stories of the bombing of the London docks and other locations. One story was about a sugar refinery or warehouse that was hit and the poor souls there were covered in burning sugar! On V.E. day, she was driving an ambulance and got caught in the throngs of happy people from Piccadilly Circus to Trafalgar Square!

That mug is such a stellar find. My great grandmother worked in a munitions factory in Toronto during the war. I can imagine that in 1937 they didn't know what the world had in store for the next several years...sigh...
Hi Nicola, my mum worked at Blackburn’s Royal Ordanance factory during the war and always said that she have loved to be an engineer, but she was a woman. However in the eighties she went to work there again but in the capacity of a quality control inspector who actually worked for the Ministry of defence.

This was a great video and I love you link in the history, whether it is military or social. All of it is so relevant to lives past, so much is revealed in the chards, pipes and everything else. My great grandma smoked a pipe .... I am in Canada, so I am wondering about that across over there. My Mom said Grandma would just toss the broken pipe in the garden when they broke.... The hand grenade at the end is really good to see. Can you imagine being there when the Blitz happened, it went on and on! Thanks so much!

I believe it was Chief Seattle who said that if there were no animals, mankind would soon die of loneliness, and I believe this is a major truth. You should perhaps one day make a long video just of the Wildlife on the Thames and country side. You do a fantastic job and one can tell your love for them,,,,,,,and the river and pipes and everything to do with the Thames. This was a great video and I love you link in the history, whether it is military or social. All of it is so relevant to lives past, so much is revealed in the chards, pipes and everything else. My great grandma smoked a pipe .... I am in Canada, so I am wondering about that across over there. My Mom said Grandma would just toss the broken pipe in the garden when they broke.... The hand grenade at the end is really good to see. Can you imagine being there when the Blitz happened, it went on and on! Thanks so much!
