  • DW 5000 double kick pedal replace bearings and other parts
I purchased a used DW 5000 double pedal and quickly realized I needed to take it apart to check the bearings. Sure enough, one of them was bad. This video shows step by step how to disassemble and replace each of the bearings.
The Drumless tracks you hear in the background during the disassembly are what this channel is about. I just thought you guys might need a how-to video as well.

Dude, thank you so much for doing this. You are the man. I just rebuilt my DW5000 double pedal from 1999 following your video. It came out perfect. The bearings were all gummed up and seized, now, it is smooth like the first day I bought it.

So I have a good background in mechanics. I would like to add that using a hammer to get the bearings out is perfectly fine for when you have no intention of reusing them. The impact shocks of hammering can cause microdents in the bearings themselves that will cause friction. Yes, the use of rubber/cloth helps minimize that tremendously. What I would suggest that any DIYer can do to install new bearings without needing to hammer them back in is to purchase a proper sized threaded bolt that will fit directly through the bearing opening and is long enough with enough threads to extend the entire length of the opening into the pedal plus extra. You cannot go too long. Buy a couple nuts and several sized washers of different outside diameters that fit through the bolt. What you can do with this is make a bearing press. It works extremely well and is actually quite fun watching the bearing slowly thread right into place while you're rotating the bolt. You can even use this as a bearing puller. The best way to make it easy on the bearing is pressing it in by the outside race. Many people will even have a socket set of the right size that will work. The socket has a hole on the end where a bolt can slide through and be used to press it in.

Thank you for the insight! I just grabbed what I had to work with. But you make a valid point and a great suggestion. Thanks again!

Thanks for your video. I was stuck in the disassembly of my pedal until I watched it. Finally I was able to take up the slop in the far right bearing that was causing a rattle/buzz. Now I can move onto the same problem with my DW 5000 Single Chain/wire base Bass Drum Pedal.😏

I work on airplanes. But I’m pretty sure I’ll not get the reassembly right. Maybe I’ll just buy a fresh pedal. Yeah I know. I suck. But that’s what a couple days of overtime are for right? Pu$$$$y or drum pedals. Well done. I have a headache now. Thanks. 😊

Yeah this was not easy for me 😆 it’s so important to mark every part as you go or film the process so that you have reference when you forget what you did. 😂

FYI, The “Little Pin” Is called a Retaining Ring. Ring Pilar’s is what there removed with if you have them.

Thanks for the tear down video! Did you actually replace any bearings? What size are they? They look like skate board bearings. If you didn't replace them what did you do to clean them up?

You’re welcome. Yes I replaced one of the bearings for the primary pedal. I think they are the same size as skateboard bearings but I ordered mine from a drum shop. I used the lubricant to clean the other bearings. Seemed to do the trick.

    Great video!
I’ve noticed there’s 2 different size bearings in the main pedal, 7/8” for the outer two, and 3/4” on the inside.
Did you replace all bearings? And if so where did you find them, are they DW replacements?

Thanks! I didn’t replace them all but I ordered from drum factory direct.

Very informative video thank you. Be nice if DW made a direct-drive conversion kit for the 5000 series.

Did you buy the bearings from DW or are they generic? Are they requested in any specific way?

I got them from Drum Factory Direct. DW 7/8" Precision Bearing, DWSP213 www.drumfactorydirect.com/

That “pin” is a circlip. Circlip pliers are pretty cheap and will reduce the chances of breaking the clip or it flying off never to be seen again.

😂 thank you! I figured there is a proper tool for it. I’m lucky it didn’t fly off somewhere.

What size bushing is that at the 11:24 mark? I think that’s the piece I’m missing to put mine back together
