Note: XPhase Pro hardware is being upgraded in August 2019. The upgrades will include these improvements:
1. Raw DNG Mode, for easier workflow, and possibly improved quality.

Hi, after seeing your video, I have got the camera today, it is not easy to use. Can you make a detailed video tutorial of editing images for use in virtual tours.
Also, what should we do for removing stitching errors. I have got it as I was not satisfied with the quality of insta 360 one X for virtual tours. Need your help in using like a pro.

Hi Carola. Xphase beats Panono in every way and in addition Panono now charges for stitching. So I would choose Xphase over Panono. As for xphase vs z1, you saw in this review that xphase is waaaaay more detailed than z1. So if you really want high resolution then i would choose xphase over z1.

Hi Jeff! Yes the biggest updates are: 1. raw dng mode. 2. 6-shot hdr. 3. manual exposure. 4. more consistent lens quality (no backfocused lenses). i'll update my xphase review page as i find out more.

I am looking to purchase either a Theta Z1 or Xphase, I'm inclined to go with the Xphase simply because of it's resolution and I'm looking to do pole photography with it as well so DSLR quality and minimal weight will be extremely useful. I would love to see the workflow before I purchase though as I'm worried this may be the limiting factor. When will your new vid be released?
Thanks Peter! I'm redoing the new video to make it even more useful. I'm going to introduce something that I believe will be very helpful to the industry. Re Xphase workflow it is very simple. You batch stitch the photos and HDR merge them in one step. Just copy the ORI files to your hard drive, launch the Panomanager stitcher, select the files, choose your preferred export format (I suggest DNG or 16-bit PNG), then click stitch. It will batch stitch them and HDR merge them in one step. The harder part is that XPhase may have stitching errors, especially indoors. Fixing stitching errors takes up additional time. But outdoors, the stitching is quite smooth.

Hi MHMuaini. For some units, the stitching can be improved through calibration. And the stitching on my 2020 unit is better.
Could you also compare the image quality to one of the 5.6k cameras like the vuse xr or insta 360. I don't own either of the fancier 360 cameras you mention at the end. I'd like to see if it's a material improvement.

I'm new, so forgive the queston: --I see from the video how to use the Xphase 360 results on the phone app. But how about if I want to view the stitched pictures on my desktop? Do I need a special program or app to show the pix? Will I have to buy Lightroom? How about if I want to send a picture to another person on their phone or desktop. Will they be able to see the picture as 360 degrees without installation of an app? Thanks for everything, Mic!
Hey there Bill! Great questions! If you want to see the photos on the desktop you can use a free 360 photo viewer. There are many, such as insta360 studio, gopro vr player, or ricoh theta app. To edit the photo, there are many options as well. Any photo editor can work. The difference is that some changes will result in a visible seamline. Some apps such as lightroom and photoshop will not result in a seam. In addition to editing the photo, you may want to add 360 metadata so that sites such as facebook can recognize it as 360. Sooo, the big question is where does one buy this camera? It’s not available on Amazon, nor is it on the largest online camera store B&H... And, once I get one of these cameras, what software could I use on my computer that would allow me to plug in my Oculus Rift S and view the photos stored?

Mic I got my XPhase today and did a quick comparison with the Panono, Ricoh Theta Z1 and the Insta360 Pro. The Xphase is miles ahead of them for detail. When you zoom in on photos taken on the other 3 cameras they look coarse and pixelated but the XPhase looks smooth and fine. Where it really shines is in distant objects, most cameras look good on near objects but fail on distant ones. BTW whats the best image viewer for such large photos, the Insta360 viewer wont work on the 16384 x 8192 file.
Congrats Joe! You're totally right about the detail! For viewer i like ptgui viewer which can view at full reso. You can dl the free ptgui trial which includes the ptgui viewer and can view png

I love that it looks like you don’t have to live I fear of damaging the lenses. I love that it looks like taking a photo and video is pretty simple with the click of a button, no squinting into a dark display. But if I can’t edit video on my mobile devices like the insta 360x, I’m out.

@@360vroomers I would love to use them both. I like the in camera stiching of the Xphase so i can immediately share it after doing some short editing. Makes it a lot easier. 16384x8192px is the max upload resolution for Kuula so thats also very nice 👍

Thank you very much Mario! Theta Z1 and Xphase are the two best cameras. Z1 advantage is dynamic range and stitching quality. XPhase advantage is dslr-level detail. When the upgraded version is released in about 2 weeks it might also have better dynamic range than z1. We'll see!

Hi Sam! The August version has new hardware. The old version cannot be upgraded to add raw. If you order now using the link, it is a preorder for the new Aug version with raw dng. Pls note my info abt the aug version is only from xphase. I havent tried the new version yet.

Hi Mic, hope you are well. Looks like a great camera, and one that can finally challenge the use of a normal camera with a 360 head. Such a shame about the stitching errors though, would be amazing if we could have a link to download the unstitched images to see how PTGui handles it. Or maybe they'll improve on this before the release date?

Thanks Joe! According to my contact, most of the new features can't be added via firmware update. But if you ordered the original version, they will automatically upgrade your order to the new version for free (even though the new version costs more).
@@360vroomers So Mic I was onto the supplier and they said that the upgrade is a software upgrade and that it will be free in August. I doubt very much if they would need to have a hardware upgrade for the changes they were talking about.

Will it be a software upgrade or a new hardware?
2. I couldn't find any info about bracketing. Is AEB feature available with this camera?

Hey Harry. Great questions! Yes it will be a hardware upgrade. All orders will be for the new hardware, available 8/14 or so.
No bracketing mode per se but every shot will be a 6 shot bracket 😀 yes it is possible to get the individual exposures if you need them

Hi. How long it takes to export photo or video with Xphase in compare to insta 360x? And what about size of final files?
Hi Josef. Just to clarify, XPhase cannot do video. It can only do photo. The size of the final file depends on whether you export as JPG (around 20mb each) or PNG (around 600mb each). Exporting Xphase photos doesn't take so long, and it can batch stitch the HDR photos, on phone or desktop (Phone stitching is JPG only, not PNG).
Thanks for the review. I am waiting for a z1 ,but was afraid I have ordered the wrong best camera for my use. But when you told about is problem to shoot in dark enviroment I do not think this camera XPhase match my need. Want to take some kind of night sky image in 360 slightly better than my insta one x .
Hi Bengt! The Z1 and the XPhase each have their own strengths. For low light, Z1 is definitely better, I can assure you. So don't worry, you got the best one for you!
Nice video! You convinced me to cancel my order of the Z1 and go for this. I do have a question, if you know, and that is do you know if the app is in English? I see that it is in, what looks like, Chinese, but there is no info on if the app is in English. One other thing that was a bit disappointing is the fact that it uses USB 2.0 versus 3.0. Kind of shocking for what seems like a possible massive file size. So transfer speeds will be greatly reduced.

The guru 360 and the feiyu g360 are not longer available. I what a gimbal for my xiaomi mijia 360. Could you give me some recommendations/alternatives? Thank you
Hi Ricardo. To be honest, there are no good 360 gimbal options anymore. You can instead get insta360 one x. The cost will be similar to gimbal and you get higher 5.7k resolution too.
hmm, interesting, but does it have gyro ? ,so that u can angle the camera in any position, or do u need to have it leveld perfect horizontal ?
Hi BlueScreen. Yes it has gyro but it hasnt been implemented yet. In the future it will have stabilization. For now, i use Hugin (free) to straighten its photos.
Is the XPhase Pro S the final version? Does the image resolution downgrade when exporting the photo with the app? How do you like the dynamic range?
Hi Vincinator. The 2020 version of the XPhase has some improvements, such as a Micro USB port on the side that makes it easier to use while charging. When stitching with the app, it stitches at the full 16384 x 8192 resolution. Dynamic range is pretty good although not as high as Theta Z1 with a 9-shot bracket. In my next video I will compare the Xphase and other virtual tour 360 cameras. I will also discuss how to shoot and stitch each of them for the best quality.

Hi, is it possible to use the phone app to simply take the shots without images being captured to the phone? Failing that, is it possible to stop the phone app from stitching the pictures to save time and phone battery? (Stitching will happen later via desktop app).
Hi speedtripper. Good idea. FYI the camera shoots at the same speed whether it is connected to a phone or not, so about 10 or 15 seconds between shots. But I will suggest that feature. For now, you can use the self timer if you don't want to use the phone app.
I really LOVE quality from Panda and X Phase cameras, and want to stay away from Insta360 X quality for Real Estate tours. However I love Matterport software how they made 3D transition from one spot to another. Is there alternative software that can do that affect.. I would love user to "flow" thru entire house.

@@360vroomers thanks for quick reply. I was actually pretty impressed with Benaco. For me sharpness in details is important. I can overlook stiching error, but I am bothered by lack of detail. If you were to pick 1 camera to shoot Real Estate tours what would you pick personally? I was looking at Zheta Z1, X Phase and Panona. I know that Zheta Z1 is my LEAST favorite pick as far as sharpness and detail. Would you go with Panona or XPHase for RE tours?
@@360vroomers By the way it would be very cool, if you can get your hands on MatterPort Pro camera, and do virtual tour for standard house using 1. MatterPort camera 2. Theta Z1 3. X Phase and 4) Panona and share with us A) How much time it took you to create tour B) Results. This would be a video purely for Real Estate agents.. I think it would be in HIGH demand.. You can even do Zillow 3D spin with 3D Zillow app for comparison..
@@sacramentorealestateagentp3764 among those 3 i would choose theta z1 for virtual tours because it is most predictable. I would never attempt to shoot with panono which has very unpredictable stitching. tbh, for virtual tours i prefer to shoot with a dslr for paying clients. That's the only way to get dslr quality. Stay tuned. Gonna share how to do it easily and predictably.

Mic have you had any stitching errors. I have taken 4 photos and 3 of them have a case where at least one of the cameras didn't stitch. I presume its a bug that will be sorted out with a firmware update?
Hi Joe. When you say at least one of the cameras didn't stitch, you mean there's a hole in the 360 photo or something? I've never had that happen on any of my shots. Can you post a link to a sample where a camera didn't stitch?

Hi Joe. HP Reverb is very high res but needs a PC with gtx 1080. If you want a standalone headset i suggest oculus quest or oculus go.

Hi Joseph, i think video is impossible. But they will add time lapse in the future and you can convert that to a time lapse video.

Mic I just came across the DJI Pano mode where it takes 26 photos and stitches them together. I did it in RAW and stitched them in PTGui. It is the biggest 360 photo I have taken. With 26 x 20MP thats a 520MP capture. Fantastic for landscapes taken from 300 ft high. The drone does all the work automatically and even stitches a jpg version. Apparently this has been available since Nov 2017.
Hey there Joe! Yes sure it takes great quality but it has a very long min stitching distance (ok when you're high up but less so when you are low) and you have to patch the zenith.
@@360vroomers I would only use it for high drone shots where i am looking for detail in the distance. The Xphase will do the ground shots. As for the zenith I am not pushed as its whats below that Im interested in. I used to use my Panono suspended from the drone and my blood pressure always went up whenever that setup was used. This is so stress free and Im not limited by the Panono wifi distance.
oh i know the feeling about the Panono on a drone! hahaha it's like a pendulum... so scary! mavic 360 is so much better.
Can matterport software be used or another one
Hi Ramon. Matterport is compatible only with a few cameras (certain Ricoh Theta and Insta360 cameras). XPhase can't be used with Matterport. But it can be used with other software that are similar in some ways to Matterport, depending on what you are looking for from Matterport. For example, Kuula and 3DVista can create a Matterport zoom effect: ua-cam.com/video/OteADanvTVE/v-deo.html
Dear 360rumors, thank you for the review. May i ask for some sample data from the camera? A photo (internally stitched) and the 25 indepented photos? I would like to get my hands on one to investiagte the 3D potential of this camera, since the cameras'are kind of 'normal'. No ultra wide, pherical lenses, so much easier to photogrammetrically exploit. [PS. i am engineer fuculty, with specialization in underwater photogrammetry)

my panomanager can't open the ori. files. how do I safe them as jpg that I can added them?

Hi Nadine. From panomanager, click on the wifi symbol. Then click on the folder. Then choose the folder with the ORI files. For more help, please go to the Facebook group for XPhase.
Is the handle part of the camera, or can you remove it? I understand it has a standard tripod mount point - is this on the handle, or the main section of the camera?

@@360vroomers That's a pity, because I was looking for a high resolution camera to fit to my aircraft. The mounting on the end of the (long) handle will result in the camera wobbling in the airflow - I need something that attaches to the aircraft closer to the camera.

@@aerialexplorer772 i see. it's possible to get a mini clamp like this amzn.to/31Vdfqa and then use it to grip the handle close to the head. But if the head is close to the aircraft body, the aircraft will block a large part of the 360 view. Another alternative to use a mavic or anafi to capture a 360 instead. The resolution could be higher.

Hi jazabijakzbronxu! When you order now, it is actually a preorder for the new upgraded version. When you order, make sure it says "TOPXP360-PRO" below the product name so you'll get the free extra 128GB USB drive. If you see TOP-157, there is no free USB drive.
Please talk about video stabilization and video performance. With all those lenses, does it by any chance shoot 3D too?

Hi Katherine. Sorry xphase has no video capability... It doesnt shoot 3d but there are ways to use it to shoot 3d. What is your main use for 360? I can suggest a camera for your primary use.

Congrats Jon! Xphase is always in HDR. Get the latest 10/31 firmware and app to get the 6shot hdr and dng mode!

@@360vroomers Just got the firmware loaded and the new android app installed. But no matter what I try, it won't connect via wifi. Are you having the same issues?
@@jonathandavidfilms make sure the camera has turned on completely (takes about 45 secs). Then connect your phone wifi to xphase. Then launch xphase app. Then click on connect. The camera will beep 5 times. Double click the camera shutter button. The app will be connected to the camera.
360Rumors yes, tried all that. No go with the new updates. Does yours work with the new firmware and iOS app? Mine doesn’t work with either the new (Oct 31 release) android app or the iOS app, with new firmware.

This is the XPhase Pro - a high resolution 360 camera for photography (it does *not* shoot videos). It is available here with free extra 128GB drive: bit.ly/buyxphase (you need to click on "Xphase Pro" and you'll see a checkmark). The price went up to $879 because of hardware upgrades that will add these features:
1. 6-shot HDR (instead of 3-shot HDR). Yes the software can still fuse the 6 shots.
2. Raw DNG mode. Yes the software will be able to stitch the DNG according to XPhase.
3. Manual exposure.
4. Better consistency of lenses. The prerelease version had at least one backfocused lens. The new one will have better lens consistency.
I'm going to try to get the next video out as soon as possible. I'm aiming for Thursday.
Oooooh I want one! I'm used to 46MP Sony ff quality, and the Insta 360 One detail tends to let me down. Unfortunately, no 3D and no video capture, it's hard to justify it for stills only. But if the result looks good in an Oculus headset, I may consider it. The Insta 360 Pro has 8K video, but at $2800, that's a bit too expensive. I guess real-time stitching is still too difficult to achieve. Most cameras nearly overheat just shooting standard video with 1 sensor, and this one has to stitch 25. This should have better vision than spiders.

I can't promise that it will compare to your a7R II, but in my next video i will compare it to the a6000. i'll also try to do a comparison with the original a7R as well (the first one). How will we know that the 128GB drive is included with our purchase? I tried the shopping cart and could not see anything about the 128GB Drive. Ideally they would have a specific landing page for your referrals, with the 128GB offer.

For a car dealership itself it would be great. For car interiors, not recommended. The tight space will result in many stitching errors. For car interiors i recommend z1 or a dslr panohead.
Hi! How does it compare to insta360 Pro, Pro 2 and Titan?
Hi Hareth. First, to clarify, XPhase cannot do video. But XPhase photo is more detailed than Insta360 Pro, Insta360 Pro 2, or Titan. But Titan will have better dynamic range. For stitching, XPhase will have a much shorter minimum stitching distance vs any of them, especially Titan. XPhase can also shoot HDR without ghosting. But XPhase cannot do 3D 360 photos, unlike those 3 cameras.
Thanks for the clarification. One more thing, the XPhase has 8mp per lens which amounts to a total of 200mp, but what is the mp quality per lens for the Titan or Pro 2? I did not find this information anywhere. Thanks again

Ugh that resolution is amazing, but that flare and loss of contrast is pretty bad. The app needs work and like most 360 cameras you need to find a place to hide. The Z1 is still more versatile (timeshift mode). I love resolution so it's hard to pick. Both have big compromises. I'll wait a little longer. Awesome video Mic!

Hey there Vincinator. I use either a monopod and the mt-02 stand or if you want better stability but less portability, a Linco steel light stand.

Xphase occasionally has stitching errors. So for virtual tours, I prefer Theta. For personal photos (e.g. vacation photos), Xphase is good.

Sorry Randy. No live view on the XPhase. You can take a photo and see the photo afterward and use that to check your exposure and composition.

Hello buddy! I was checking new comments about XPhase and there are a lot of them complaining about the stitching. Are you using that XPhase and do you know something about it? Another thing is about the foggy lens. If you something new please leave in the comments. I was thinking to buy my next 360 camera but I know that always has some improvements to get. And especially for photos, cuz for videos the ONE X is excellent

Thanks for the review! This camera looks very impressive indeed. But in my humble personal opinion, the more lenses you have, the more problems are introduced. The two most basic ones are cameras mismatches or misfocusing (as it happens out-of-the-box with this camera already as always) and most importantly, with lots of lenses lack of paralax errors and good stitching are almost impossible missions (and yet again with this camera its instantly proven so again). Simply put, I don't believe this kind of cameras will ever be able to avoid stitching errors and no amount of improved software will change it enough to ever be comparable to a high quality single lens flat picture.
Hey there buddy! I agree more lenses usually increases problems. We need to ask ourselves if the xphase's higher resolution compensates for the problems. Yes but you have to add GPS metadata manually. Also, you need to downscale the resolution to 16000 x 8000 because that is the limit that street view will accept.................

How is it in low light?
It is ok as long as shutter speed max is 1 sec. If it is too dark for 1 sec shutter speed, such as night photography, then it wont look good, as in the really low light house photo i showed in the video
