I really like how you explained the process for making the pieces. I particularly like how your screw chuck serves multiple purposes of holding the piece and also providing a visual guide for the base diameter.
Nice job Mike! I was hoping you would take on a chess set. Want to do a set myself and I will be watching carefully as you progress. Thanks for sharing!
Keep watching. I discuss this in other chess videos. Basically I find the idea on line, copy and paste the picture into MS Word and scale it to the desired size.
Mike Peace Thinking I could turn a tenon that fits into the hole and also make kind of a reverse to the outside of the mandrel save to help support the fixture.
Mike, Awesome work. I throughly enjoyed this series. Thanks. Where did you get the dimmensions for the pieces. I am going to make a set and would like to make them all correctly. I noticed you have printouts of your design. Where did these come from?
Thanks. I found a set I liked, downloaded a picture, scaled it to my size on the computer and printed out copies to make storyboards. Gidi Azar, a subscriber from AUS made the drawings later and let me post them on my website.

My wife has been wanting me to make a chest set for some time now. Thanks for the ideas. Larry

I like the simple yet affective way you hold the parts. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Duncan. Good luck with your chess set.
Very nice and detailed description of the turning. Where did you get the templates for the pieces?

Go for it. Good luck with your set.
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Cool!
I'm assuming at 8:01 you could also use a mandrel saver with some sort of insert.
+Cliff Hartle
No reason you couldn't adapt a mandrel saver with some wood cover to act as a "soft touch."

Thanks. I will be making a set AND the board. I'll have to send you pics when finished.
Looking forward to them!
I think it was a bit unsafe moving the tool rest up to a rotating part.

Can't argue with that.
These pawns are PAWNS.
