    Never used a lathe before but a friend has offered to teach me and another friend has made a metal form to use on making the pawns. This video is more than just an introductory course. Axminster has some skill!

    Lovely work on the chess set. I just made a board and posted it on UA-cam and hopefully one day I will have a go at a chess set and this will be the video I am saving to get inspiration.
    Many thanks

    When sanding, is the speed of the lathe determined by personal preference or by the density (type) of the wood you are using?

    • @axminster
      @axminster  Рік тому +2

      Hi there, the speed is determined by the size of timber, the balance, the task and the ability of the turner. Hope this helps

    roughly how long did it take you to turn each piece? im thinking of making a chess set for a school project but i just need to ensure i will have enough time, thanks :)

    • @axminster
      @axminster  8 місяців тому

      Hi there, it will depend on how accomplished your turning is and the chess piece. Colwin took 10-15mins per piece, not including preparing the blanks. Some of the more complex shapes may take longer.

      The board itself is correct, the right square nearest the player is white (white on right), then inwards it goes Rook, Knight, Bishop and the easiest way to remember what way the King and Queen goes is that the Queen always starts on its own colour square (white Queen on white square).

  • @8901WCTENNESSEE
    @8901WCTENNESSEE 10 місяців тому +1

    It's easier if one set was black as far as color goes or a different color than on the board as far as cnc x concerned

  • @8901WCTENNESSEE

    Wooden pieces are easier to tell the difference if they are painted

    • @AmyAnderson-fields
      @AmyAnderson-fields 7 місяців тому

      It would depend on the wood. You need enough contrast in either value (light to dark), hue (color), or graining.
