Stridewise Unfortunately the American brands are great and would gladly try them, they're just a bit difficult to get in Europe. And returns can be a pain :) out of all you've shown the American Giant is the most appealing to me too. Would love to try the American Giant one day. Please keep the reviews coming, love'em.
I have the outerknown hoodie and besides being very comfy it never shrinks, it keeps the size despite washing it and tumble drying it! It’s perfect! Never regret it a second, there’s no other hoodie I’d rather buy!
Spit my coffee on your final thought! Great job. I love your boot reviews but I have really enjoyed all of your stuff that branches out into more men's fashion.
Thanks a ton, Shane, that means a lot! Always feels a bit risky branching out but I'll run out of boots one day so I gotta! I'll always do at least one boot video a month though.
Great video man! I am looking for a hoodie to work out in outside(hiking and walking). I want to put it over a long sleeve merino wool shirt and then put a windbreaker over the hoodie. What hoodie would you recommend for

After watching this video, I dug out my American Giant hoodie (in admiral blue) that I haven't worn in years. Still great, but I just haven't been that into wearing hoodies with my outfits. Also I'm jealous that the ladies line always has better colors than the dudes.
@@Stridewise but we cant get anything in Flint and Tinder!?? Where is their womens line? Am I tarded and unable to find it orrrr is it that FT just stopped carrying womens? Hey Nick, keep up the great videos. Could you recommend any stores to visit during a trip to NYC where I can pick up some quality gear? I'm planning on visiting huckberry and Thursday so far. Cheers
Thanks Gary. Do you mean quality boots or quality gear? Filson's stores are always great for some super manly flannel/jackets. I haven't been to the flagship one but the layout in the little East Village one is amazing, it's like you're in a 18th century hunting cabin. I'd really recommend going to Leffot in the West Village, super classy place and it's where I got my Aldens. A good list here! www.stitchdown.com/buying-guides-and-reviews/best-mens-shoe-stores-nyc/
Just ordered my jacket and sweat pants. Love the V back because i have a wide upper back. You can thank the Marine Corps training from all the pull ups lol. Thank you so much for the review. It caught my eye! Oh and I did leave a note letting them know it was due to your UA-cam I bought it. 👌
Very nice, Nick! I usually root for 100% cotton in almost everything, such as jeans, chinos, t-shirts etc. But for sweatshirts and hoodies, I prefer a cotton/polyester blend. They seem to hold onto their shape much longer, whereas my sweatshirts in 100% cotton (from Uniqlo though, so pretty cheap) lose their shape really quick. I assume this changes once you pay more.
Great comment! Yeah polyester blend hoodies are very soft and cheaper, I get the preference for them. I try to prioritize longevity in my clothes, partly because I'm a big cheapskate :)
My brother is 5'11" with a 31 inch waist. Skinny but in good shape. Has a small waist and a V-shape back. Between 140-180lbs. I'm not sure whether I should get him a medium or large for the champion reverse weave.
Not sure if your question was ever answered. But, I have the same body type and height and I find Medium’s to be a perfect fit with a little extra breathing room left over!
Great review! I'm definately going to check out the American Giant Full Zip. It would of been cool to see a few more hoodies on the list like The Filson CCF Waffle lined, Tough Duck insulated hoodie and maybe a ridiculously expensive one like 3sixteen, Real McCoys and or Iron Heart.
@@Stridewise Ah, yes a "best work hoodie" review would be awesome. Great channel. I've picked up a couple of items based on your review's. Your channel is great. Keep it up!
Word! I was considering the Iron Heart hoodie, but that double zipper really turned me off. Also, $300 for a hoodie is a bit much, especially since I just bought new 888s for $300 a couple months ago! LOL
The Flint and Tinder 10 Yr Hoodie looks like its improved quite a bit. I got in on the original Kickstarter and the first ones they sent out were a mess, the sleeves were waaay to long and narrow (more like drinking straws), the waist band was like a womens corset that stretched out into a lampshade after some wear and the color bled out like crazy when washed. I might be tempted to try one now if I wasn't an American Giant snob. (5 hoodies and a gaggle of their premium shirts)
Hahaha that often happens with kickstarter-started companies. A lot of people say the same thing about the first Kickstarted run of Thursday boots, early ones were a mess, but both companies came a long way. I kind of want an American Giant travel pant! I was going to get their Roughneck pants but I have these stupid thick thighs
I like the rawhide zip pull, Eric! But it's not 100% cotton or made in the US and that kind of stuff really matters to a lot of people not to mention the very high price. I'm a massive cheapskate haha - definitely wouldn't throw out a free one though!
Hey Nick. Great review. Of those you selected, I only have the American Giant. I agree. It's an excellent hoodie. It gets frequent use. I also wear reigning champ and wings&horns. they're better for layering under a jacket (less thick). The Real McCoys and The Strike Gold are a step up in price but also great choices if you want a Japanese brand. They're super thick. I'll have to check out Flinter Tinder but I generally prefer all cotton.:-) I also have Champion but only in pullovers. Great for lounging. Thanks and take care!
Best Japanese hoodie and Best Work Hoodie (Filson) would have been great categories! I filmed a whole one on best fancy hoodie (Everlane) but they took it off the site before the video was ready. Agree Champion is just for lounging. Thanks for your recs Duke! AG is cheaper thn Reigning Champ and I didn't want a bunch of similar hoodies so I just had best and runner up, then went into categories. Maybe best 100% cotton hoodies would be a good sequel video!
I have the Outerknown, American Giant, and Mack Wheldon hoodies and aside from price, Outerknown is the best by a mile. It's the most comfortable and versatile. Perfect for layering, softer than a towel, and despite being expensive, you're paying for organic cotton and hemp for environmental reasons. Mack Wheldon is solid. American Giant isn't really a hoodie in my option, it's NOT versatile, not meant for layering, and not comfortable. Because it's such a heavy piece of cotton it's not temperature moderating, I find myself sweating in it when I transition from outdoors to indoors. AG's hoodie is so overbuilt it feels like a leather jacket when I'm putting it on, and I just use it as a cotton jacket with a hood (many on their who "like" the hoodie say this as well), here in Chicago I would only wear it for winter and even then it wouldn't be my go to. I think people like it because it's slick marketing hooks makes people curious (myself included) which is why I'm writing this for you guys. AG's hoodie is excellent for me in one regard, when I'm heading out of the gym in winter, covered in sweat, I can just put it on and sweat inside of my AG hoodie instead of sweating in my nicer jackets/hoodies.
Damn I love the thoughtfulness of this comment! I think the main downer with the Outerknown one is the rough exterior and shapelessness of it. It is good for layering, that's true, but it's just SO casual. Hard agree that the environmental reasons are worth it though, and American Giant *is* very thick and overbuilt. I believe they have midweight hoodies now, though.
I wish you have mention Naketano. The best hoodies ever made. They are extremely popular in Europe. Although the founders had a big legal fight among themselves, so closed the company despite the popularity of their hoodies. You can still find their hoodies in stores, until stocks run out. Get them while they last.
For a few years now the only place I get jackets from is American giant. The price to what you get is stupid fair. Also it should be known that nowa days they actaully have a few different jackets types. I get the moto jacket. Great video!
You can't have a best of hoodie review without mentioning Reigning Champ/Wings+Horns. And my problem with American Giant is their sizing isn't consistent and the color fades fast even if you cold wash and air dry.
Yeah Reigning Champ is good, I just think when balancing price against what you get American Giant is better. Perhaps I should have included three "top/best/most durable" etc. and then gone into the more specific 'for working out' 'ethically made' etc. categories. Maybe next time!
I gotta say, you didn’t make my choice between the flint and tinder vs American giant any easier lol. The layering comment with the American giant may be a deal breaker though, I’ll be layering the hoodie on my brave star denim jacket (found the brand from your video, thanks!). Is it really too thick to layer ? I’m built like a meth head if that matters, tall and real slender lol P.s. how’s the Filson journeyman holding up ?
American Giant is slimmer fitting and longer in the torso so that's probably the one for you, dude! Nice work on that Brave Star jacket. Filson Journeyman is by my side right now and going strong, about to take it around Utah and Tennessee!
Yeah Reigning Champ is great, I think AG is best for the 100% cotton option, Flint & Tinder best runner up and then the others were for specific purposes. I'd be repeating myself too much if I listed a bunch of similar hoodies like AG and Reigning Champ, which, since it's a lot more expensive, I took out of the running. Still a great hoodie though!
I thought I'd get in trouble if I recommended something that expensive haha. Like it's hard to know what's best for my "brand" but I like quality, timeless, long lasting stuff but not stuff that's *unnecessarily* expensive? I don't know. It's a good looking hoodie! Not a fan of the logo on it though
Flint and Tinder! Probably a bunch of others. AG specifically says on their site they don't replace for wear and tear. I imagine they will if you make a stink but still, it's not the guarantee www.american-giant.com/pages/lifetime-warranty
i mean 1k for a hoodie i can easily find Levi's french terry, brass YKK zipper, 100% cotton for like 32 dlls those are 31 hoodies that can last many years each
Don't buy anything from american giant in blue. My wife and I both got the blue hoodies and somehow, both of them got stained within an hour of opening the package:( I believe the blue is cursed...we have several other colors as well and love them...im kidding naturally...love their stuff but the blue items somehow end up getting ruined by us:(
Regardless the color of the hands putting the hoody together; made in America means they were paid a livable wage. That's why stuff made in China is crap. It's not that the workers aren't capable but if a company is going for the cheapest labor possible, what else are they cutting costs on? Thread, fabric, quality control, etc
@@ryanbar1562 I got all that and I am not questioning it, except I live in Germany and our minimum vage is 3$ higher than in the US. Is made Germany better than made in the US then? ;-) Although I FULLY back what you wrote in general, you might want to consider not only the minimum vage, but also the cost of life in the country. Also, made in US (or Germany, Europe, whatsoever) is not per definition a guaranty for good quality. I suggest to look at the product in detail in addition to the provenance (which, again agreed, is a good indication). But I guess you also got my point with my initial comment, which obviously was meant to be taken with a little smile.
@@Stridewise Not criticizing at all, just gave me a good smile! Thanks for that. I must mention here: Generally, your reviews are spot on, very informative, and, to my opinion, very well balanced and credible. I like your channel a lot!
That last one had me at hemp, lost me at China. I don't think it can be the most "ethical" on the list if it's made in some Chinese sweatshop using prison/slave labor. Maybe it isn't, but China is known to do that. I'm trying to stay away from made-in-China products when I can for quality clothes, etc. I don't think I trust Chinas "standards" for ethical work environments.
Fair Labor Association and Bluesign standards are very rigorous, require regular inspections, and aren't owned or managed by China. If you don't want to send money to China that's fine, but it's not true to say it simply HAS to be slave labor no matter what
No guy over 25 should wear a hoodie. Let’s be honest, how often is the hood used? Exactly, so the rest of the time you have this wad of material behind your head. Looks like crap!

Although I FULLY back what you wrote in general, you might want to consider not only the minimum vage, but also the cost of life in the country.
Don't waste your money on the 10 year hoodie. Unless you want to pay $110 for jacket whose cuffs wear out after one use
Yeah those cuffs are a problem
2:32 nick got cakes
You know it bro #squatlife
Uniqlo has better hoodies and its priced well affordable.
They have *cheaper* hoodies, yes, but not better
@@Stridewise try their new Airsm Hoodie, I am curious what you think about it.
If you don't want to send money to China that's fine, but it's not true to say it simply HAS to be slave labor no matter what
First!
No guy over 25 should wear a hoodie. Let’s be honest, how often is the hood used? Exactly, so the rest of the time you have this wad of material behind your head. Looks like crap!
But it makes you look yoked, bro
Stridewise If I want to look “yoked” bro, I’ll join a team of oxen! 🙂
